9/10. This is the best Indian I've had in OKC, and maybe better than most of the Indian I've had all my life. Very authentic, and the location is so unpretentious that you really are doubting it.. until the food hits the table. Served on paper plates, with plastic silverware and bathroom towels, quite literally attached to the gas station "Food Mart", the initial reaction of "Really?.." was replaced with "wow".
Had the Chicken Tikki Masala (mild) and the Mutton Curry (spicy) along with 2 orders of Naan.Your first thought is "uh.. ok.." then you see the Naan. Made very authentic - cooked in a Tandoor oven, and then slathered with butter. Thin, crisp, and perfectly flavored.
The Tikki Masala had likely cream & coconut milk, which is very authentic and very tasty. The curry itself would hold up on it's own, but it helps that the Chicken was perfectly cooked and tender, and the culmination is something you will sorely miss if you do not try.
Mutton Curry was superb - using cuts of Goat still on the bone, the flavor of the fat from the goat, and the goat itself as well as traditional curry flavors was incredible. This is not something you make at home without making your own curry powder - so forget using Curry Paste or ordering powder from a spice source, this is real. Delicate cuts of meat swimming in curry sauce, with that balance between hot and taste that makes it hard to stop eating. Very ready for the next time I get to eat it.
The rice is served on a larger plate and you divvy up portions out yourself - real Basmati rice with what we believed to be Cumin Seeds, but not hard Cumin Seeds. Perfectly cooked rice serves as the perfect finish to this seemingly less-than-desirable location that leaves you planning your next meal there.
Highly recommended - the staff was pleasant, and despite the present language barrier, the cook & associate were pleasant and attentive.. and honestly, who better to cook authentic Indian cuisine than the real deal? Forgive my lack of 'merica, but I prefer it this way.
The location perhaps adds to the experience - obviously it is catered towards truck stop and hotel stops, but it's not your typical restaurant scene. Instead, it's very truck-stop diner feel, with outdated RJ-45 jacks (remember 56k Modems?) in each booth and a series of "High-Speed Internet" rooms, now closed, in the back.
I will be going back here, and I will definitely try the buffet....
Read moreWe found them while rolling threw okc in the big rig. We called and of course asked if they had truck parking not knowing it was inside a truck stop. We asked about the buffet price and if all you can eat Naan came with the buffet cause we do eat alot of Naan. he said yes it does. We get there and I do wear shalwaw kameez which is the 3pc Indian suits and you can tell off the bat he did not like me wearing it. He would not allow us to sit in the back where I wanted to sit at a table due to having bad anxiety but oh well we sat up front. We ate the buffet got our Naan like we always do food was ok. Not traditional. My 1st husband was from India so I do know authentic indian food. The Tikka Masala didn't taste right but its whatever it wasnt horrible. So we eat and go to the register to pay. He tells us $37 dollars. How is that even right.... $13.49 each plus tax. my husband asked for the receipt or bill and was told they were charging extra for the naan..... Wait ok we called and you said its all you can eat naan too. He said no it s 1 naan a buffet.... Thats not what you said on the phone and he argued with us for awhile and knew he was in the wrong and finally charged us the right price saying next time I'm charging you. I told him what next time? There will be no next time. Never again. You flat lied to us on the phone. Then looks right at me and tells me pick up your trash. Very rudely and I speak hindi and told him whats your problem in Hindi. We picked it up not to cause more of a scene cause he caused a major scene with his lie on the price and left. NEVER AGAIN. Very disrespected at this place. Will never be another time. You dont conduct business like this and say one thing on the phone and then try to rip your customers off after they...
Read moreI'm blown away by the food here! I'm still having a hard time believing food this good came from a gas station! The food here is actually southern Pakistani food, but I don't blame them for putting "Indian Food" on their signs, especially in Oklahoma. I haven't had food this good since my friend's mom used to make us when I was a kid living in Sacramento. The food is spicy for most people, but they can make it milder or spicier upon request. If it's too spicy, you can always add some yogurt sauce to bring the heat down. I got Aloo Gosht, Dal, Chicken Biryani, Samosas, Garlic Naan, and Aloo Paratha. The Aloo Gosht was so flavorful, and the goat mutton was fall-off-the-bone. The Dal was a bit watery, but after is sat for a few minutes, it thickened up quite nicely. The Chicken Biryani was the best I have ever tasted. The Samosas were the best I've had in Oklahoma. The Garlic Naan was simply amazing! Best Naan I ever had! The Aloo Paratha was also quite delicious. I can't wait to go back and try some other menu items. After eating here, it's now impossible for me to eat elsewhere. I still have a few more places to try , but for now, this...
