My wife and I went to this restaurant for the first time on 1/9/19. I had been wanting to try it for some time and it was well worth the wait. Was seated promptly and our server came over and was very attentive and kind. He took our drink orders and came back quickly with them. I mentioned to our server that it was our first time eating in this establishment. I asked what he suggested on the menu and he told me either the chopped beef brisket sandwich or the combo plate. After some debating, my wife and I opted for the combo plate (a choice of 2 of their smoked meats). We chose the pulled pork and the sausage. They actually have 3 different types of sausage: jalapeno-cheddar, hot link, & black pepper. Also, chose the "fancy" mac & cheese and the dutch oven sweet potatoes. I asked if my wife and I could split the combo plate and he informed us that that was perfectly fine. Food came out maybe ten minutes later and they split it evenly onto two different plates. Everything tasted great--the mac and cheese was quite good. I asked what type of cheese they used to make it and our server informed us it was gruyere. Enjoyed the 3 different types of sausage and the pulled pork was also very good. My wife and I were both fairly full at this point. After we had finished our combo platter, a woman came by our table and asked us how we liked our entree and we both told her that everything tasted great. Not long after she came back by and told us that since it was our first time eating there, they were going to bring us out a dessert free of charge. I thought that was great and it really showed that they valued us being there as patrons. Maybe five minutes later, out came a double chocolate bread pudding. I am not a huge fan of bread pudding but I have to say, this was quite good. Dessert featured chocolate chips and a grand mariner glaze that was very sumptuous. Finished the dessert, paid, and thanked our server for the free desert and grade-A customer service. Also informed him that we would definitely be making another visit. All in all, I am glad that my wife and I finally tried out this restaurant. I would most assuredly recommend stopping in the next time you are looking for a great meal that is reasonably priced with wonderful...

Also I am slightly hard of hearing and it was not so loud that we were not able to talk soft to each other I can yell but I never had to. I read the other reviews and completely disagree with any that gave them bad reviews but everyone can have a bad day but I encourage people to always say when they are not happy because I believe these are Good people here and from what I experienced are willing to go above and beyond within their means to make sure that you are satisfied with your experience just speak up people. Read moreI've been to Iron Star a few times, usually for a friend's birthday or some other event. Usually it's a pretty good place and they have decent service for the size of the party and the food is good.
The most recent visit I ordered the prime rib because it had been a while since I had a good steak. I normally order medium if it's not a steak house to give a little leeway for it to be sightly over or under and still be pretty close to how I like it. Unfortunately I didn't ask if it was an actual steak they prepared or a cut off the actual prime rib. It was the latter and although somehow the ends managed to be cooked properly, the center of the steak was completely cooked through, which I presume is from being cooked twice. If that's the case I'm not even sure why they asked how I wanted it. I was about halfway through the meal when I finally cut into the center of the steak.
There were other issues, like generally poor service. My wife ordered the Arnold Palmer, which she didn't like. She changed to an unsweetened tea, but was brought sweet. Throughout the dinner other people were trying to get our server's attention, but she either didn't hear them or was ignoring them. I wound up drinking there Arnold Palmer my wife didn't want because it was $3 and I didn't think it was too bad, but the price seemed a bit steep since they have it premixed and don't charge that much for either tea or lemonade. The reason I know they have it premixed is the server refilled the cup without asking if we wanted a refill and it was from a pitcher. I didn't drink it because I usually get water and wasn't really in the mood for another. Come to find out we were charged for both drinks, $3 each, and the tea my wife ordered.
Overall, the BBQ is good, but not great, and apparently the service has gotten worse so I can't really recommend Iron Star any more. If you go, definitely avoid...
