Lumpy's sports grill on nwexpressway used to be my favorite place to get a burger and a drink. I will no longer be going back. McDonald's hamburgers have better taste. The size got smaller (probably for the better), the size of the fries and onion rings have been cut in half, Kathy asked for ranch dressing. It was watered down. They actually watered down the ranch dressing, the service abysmal (Kathy who always leaves a decent tip began the roll back meter), the.order came out wrong, and it took for ever to be served. They did not bring offer to to fill Kathy's ice tea. But they did offer to make me another Crown on the rocks. Now let's talk about the crown on the rocks.... The crown was a third less in size. At least they have not started watering down the alcohol. However, they increased the price and in order to compensate for the tax on alcohol, they charged for the ice ( just in case any of you don't know drinks are by law sold with tax included in the price). Needless to say, we will not...
Read moreLumpy’s is an OKC classic now, with a traditional pub atmosphere, games, great food, karaoke, live music, community events, awesome bartenders, and overall good cheer. As someone who enjoys pubs like this mostly for their potential to become regular “third spaces,” I always hope to be able to establish some form of friendship with the staff (indeed, once upon a time the pub was a kind of alternative confessional). To that end, I want to give credit to these staff members: Three bartenders who stand out to me, and make Lumpy’s the kind of place I want to come back to time and again, are Jeff, James, and Taylor. Jeff is a whiz at bottle flipping and what’s called “flair bartending” (look it up or watch the movie Cocktail), James is a musical phenom and sometimes referred to as “the singing bartender,” and Taylor has been one of the most attentive, conversational, and all around-coolest bartenders I’ve met. It’s always a pleasure when one of them is working. Protect...
Read moreYes, Lumpy's is difficult to find. It is around the side of an office building so follow the signs to the Guatemalan consulate and keep going. They have been in business for over 25 years so they are doing something right. Lumpy's is definitely a locals bar and most everybody seemed to recognize or know each other. Even though we were not local, we were welcomed in and service was excellent with several staff members checking on us. Food was good and beer was cold and fair priced. It is a good place for sports and several screens were on throughout the bar. On the night we were there Karaoke was popular. The only drawback we had was cigarette smoke. It is a bar that allows smoking and it seemed everyone was a smoker. We sat at the outside courtyard to avoid the smoke and had a good night. For a nice night at a locals hangout, you might try Lumpy's but be okay...
