Review for Musashi Japanese Steakhouse – Disappointing Experience on Mother’s Day
We visited Musashi on Friday to celebrate Mother’s Day, expecting the usual lively, interactive hibachi experience we’ve enjoyed in years past. Unfortunately, this visit was nothing short of disappointing.
From the outset, the hostess taking meal orders was abrupt, difficult to communicate with, and dismissive of our questions. Despite the friction, we managed to get our orders in and looked forward to the chef-led performance that typically makes hibachi dining enjoyable.
When our chef, Tony, arrived, it quickly became clear he was unprepared. He struggled with basic supplies, repeatedly stopping the performance to wave down staff. His interaction with the table was minimal, and the brief “show” lacked energy and enthusiasm.
More troubling was the drastic change in how the food was prepared. Previously, the fried rice was made with soy sauce and egg, yielding a flavorful, crispy texture. This time, the chef saturated the grill in butter, soaking everything from vegetables to rice in it. The result was soggy, greasy food that lacked the flavor and quality we had come to expect.
This change in cooking method was especially problematic for our mother, who is lactose intolerant. We had ordered items that should have been safe based on past experiences. However, when we asked Tony to reduce the butter use, he responded by making an awkward and embarrassing scene in front of the table, which included another party. Rather than escalate, our mother quietly opted for plain white rice—unseasoned, uninspired, and equally disappointing.
By the end of the meal, what we received was subpar: soggy fried rice, over-buttered meats, drastically smaller portions, and zero sense of hospitality. After six years in Oklahoma, this ranked among the worst dining experiences we've had.
We’re disappointed to see the quality and service decline so sharply at a place we once enjoyed. We hope management seriously re-evaluates both the food preparation standards and the staff’s professionalism. Until then, we won’t...
Read moreTwo of these stars are for the Lobster Shooters alone. Today is my birthday, so I took my 3 children and I for a first time experience at this type of restaurant. As excited as we were, we were immediately sized up by the waitress, but I brushed it off. I was the only one at the table setting with a BIRTHDAY or anything to be celebrated, outside of the other family of 5 that had 2 people that had an anniversary the weekend before. Well... that didn't matter too much, so, I brushed that off also. The chef that flamed things up was ok, but my 4yr old was more impressed than anyone else at the table. To make a long story short, I ordered the Lobster Shooters which were delicious, the family of 2 meal(which was $40 on the menu) yet I was charged $56 for, I asked for a side of extra steamed veggies(which went ignored until the chef was ready to leave) but I at least got them before we were done eating, my oldest son had sushi(he liked), and my 2 & 4yr old easily ate with us because they weren't going to eat anything different. Plus, I knew that'd be more than enough food for us. Great... so I thought! To end the night, the people we sat with ended up liking us because I had well behaved children, but I was not impressed with that either. Not all BROWN skinned people, without the presence of a man, can raise children NOT to act a fool out in public. I had intentions on spending well over $100 for us but I narrowed it down to $90 even. That's including the tip($3.90). Had I not been made to feel as though I was the least important at that table tonight, and my children and I were not sized up for our race from the beginning, I would've gladly spent/paid more out before we left. Lastly, it wasn't even worth discussing with the manager. A review is BETTER! I'll gladly spend my hard earned money elsewhere the next time. The to-go tray my son brought home will for sure go untouched after tonight. Thanks for the family...
Read moreWe reserved patio seating (we're still observing COVID precautions) at 6pm for our anniversary. We were seated adjacent to another couple and we were the only people on the patio. The patio is lovely? It is covered and has glass wind shielding side walls. There are also fans, misters and heaters. The seats are about 3 -4" too short for the tables so the food was at my chest level. The couple started smoking and my partner is very allergic, and I don't like the smell. I thought OKC restaurants were no longer smoking accessible but the couple had an ashtray so it seems Musashis allows it. This was a big turn off and the reason I gave only 3 stars. I asked our server about it and she sort of shrugged it off. It's disappointing to go to a nice place for dinner and spend $200+ (we got the wagyu) on food, drinks and dessert, but have to suffer through 2nd hand cigarette smoke for most of it. On the positive, the food tasted really good. The wagyu steak I received had a lot of gristle this time which was unchewable, but when we've had it in the past, it's been great. It was cooked perfectly: rare to medium rare as I ordered it. The vegetables and steamed rice were perfect. We received a delicious piece of cake when our server learned it was our anniversary and Mike ordered the tempura bananas too. We shared a tasty " volcano" bowl beverage. Our server, Sheila, was really great, too! She was friendly and attentive, and fast. Really impressed with the patio itself, just not impressed with the restaurant...
