Their new I.T. system "lost" my phone order as well as the orders of 30 other customers that day, according to manager on duty, Ace. So when I arrived 30 minutes later, at the time Sheldon told me the pizza would be ready, it didn't exist. Ace explained that they could not remedy the situation by simply making my pizza while I waited, because as per usual, they had thrown out product (i.e., every last thin crust in the kitchen), PRIOR to the location's posted closing time.
Rushing the posted closing time at Hideaway has become as predictable as next months bills. The staff at this and other OKC locations start mopping the floors, throwing out things like crust and brewed tea early (even when they have a go order placed for it). When you're in the dining room, you'll notice your server is increasingly less attentive, starting anywhere from 45 to 30 minutes prior to closing. It is so palpable that even the staff's speech and movements typically take on an almost frantic quality. The phenomenon is so customary by now, it seems obvious that local management must be financially incentivized to get staff off the clock (i.e., increase Hideaway's already lucrative profit margins) by or before the posted closing time, regardless of the impact to customers.
Heads up: If the posted closing time is 9:30, what that really means is that the management and staff wish to be fully ready to close, floors mopped, dishes washed, lights turned off, alarm set and the door locked at 9:30. It DOES NOT mean that you can safely order a pizza or a beverage (and actually receive it) anytime after about 8:50 p.m..
I contacted Hideaway corporate's "customer relations" to relate the ordeal, as well as to underscore the inconvenience it caused (I had less than 30 minutes to find one the handful of restaurant's open until 10:00 p.m. on a Sunday night, place a phone order, and race across town to pick it up), then followed-up with these three burning questions:
Unless you are utterly indifferent to your customers' expenditure of time and fuel to bring their business to you, why, when the ordering system is obviously broken, would you have continued to take phone orders throughout the day, 31 of which were lost, thereby inconveniencing at least 31 customers? I mean, why not stop taking telephone orders (or Internet, or whatever part of the system was broken), by informing callers that you cannot reliably take orders over the phone because your new HAL 9000 computer system won't let you!?
If you give a damn about your customers, why would your staff throw out ALL of ANY particular product DURING the location's posted hours of operation?
If you give a damn about your customers, why would continue to employ a local manager, who in the aftermath of an abject failure on the part of Hideaway, resulting in a justifiably disgusted customer, told that customer, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I really don't need your business."
Over the years I'd already gone from a weekly Hideaway customer to less than a monthly Hideaway customer. From this point on, I'll be a former...
Read moreThis is the worst experience, ive ever seen. 1000x. This is a two part story. The first was my table the 2nd part was a random stranger.
Waiter: Dwayne Manager: Ryan
TL:DR: waiter was slow and incompetent, the manager should be demoted or fired.
We had a table of 7, it took us 15 mins to get drinks/sodas. One of our pizza's didnt even get made, so we complained. They comp'd us the pizza but it was you're general slow, unreliable service. If that was all that happened you wouldn't be reading this.
The table next to us was a young military man with his 2 kids. Just a dad trying to spend some time with his kids. Then disaster struck, his youngest fell and smacked his head. Im not an expert but if i had to guess this child was 1-2 years old. Of course the kid starts crying. After 5 minutes of the dad trying to calm the child down, my family looks over and notices this childs eye brow has gotten as big as a golf ball. We see the father request his bill before he even gets his food, obviously aware of his son's worsening condition. After about 10 more mins the waiter comes out again with our checks, but not the fathers. The father pleads with the waiter he needs to leave can he have his check. 5 mins later the waiter returns with the copy of the check for us to sign. Still nothing for the father. We insisted the father go a head and we would handle his check. He tries to hand us cash which is when i noticed his military ID. We told him dont worry about it, just pay it forward and he heads on his way. I walk to our waiter and inform him of our intent to pay the fathers bill. He takes my card rings it up and brings it back to us. This is when i became infuriated, they charged the father for his large pizza! We requested to speak to the manager, whos name is ryan. We asked why was this man charged for food he never received. We were then informed by the manager it was not his problem the individual left before it was given to him. We explained the situation, but the manager refused to acknowledge the idiocracy of his position. He felt his staff had prepared the food, and nobody forced the man to leave, therefore he should pay for it. We left, still no large pizza that i had just paid for, it was not even offered to us.
I hope this post convinces at least one person not to go to this establishment.
I also hope if this somehow reaches the overwhelmed father that i hope your son is doing well and it looked worse then it was. Your night just got worse, and im sure there's a mama bear somewhere that is very...
Read moreTo every other pizza place around Oklahoma City, I apologize. I will probably never get a chance to try your food because I enjoyed my experience at Hideaway Pizza too much! My rating is 5 stars, but don't let that fool you... I would would give it more if I could.
The staff were very attentive and always had a smile on their face. Absolutely no complaints there!
The service was excellent! I travel frequently and tend to have the waiter/waitress essentially order my food for me because I like to order the local favorites to try. They were kind and put up with my indecisiveness which is always appreciated. I ordered a custom meat lovers pizza and it was out in short order except... they made me the wrong pizza. Before I could even say anything, the waiter let me know this one was on the house and they had already started making the correct pizza to bring out! The first pizza was awesome and I would have been happy, but they went the extra mile without me even having to say anything! The second pizza came out and somehow looked even better than the first.
The food is excellent! I am usually skeptical of pizza places, but they really nailed it here! On both pizzas, I got the hand tossed crust and I have to say that the crust to pizza ratio was perfect! They loaded the toppings and cheese on, the crust was perfectly crunchy and there was not too much of it. It is also worth noting that these were not your usual over-greasy pizzas.
Overall, I will definitely be stopping here again on my travels if I'm looking for a great, fresh pizza with excellent staff and customer service to boot!
P.S. This is a 5 star review even without the...
