Disappointing Experience at Opus Steakhouse – Overpriced and Underwhelming
I recently dined at Opus Steakhouse for my birthday, hoping for a special meal. While we had a 6:30 PM reservation and were seated immediately after arriving at 6:20 PM, the service and food quality fell far short of expectations.
Service Issues
After being seated, we waited 10 minutes before our server arrived to take our drink order. She did not ask about appetizers at that time. When she returned with water, we ordered both an appetizer and our entrées.
From there, the experience went downhill. • No bread was served initially, and I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to come, but it felt like an oversight. • The appetizer never arrived before the salads. I ordered a wedge salad, and my wife had the signature house salad—both were fine but unremarkable. • When the entrées arrived, we were given carrots—a side we never ordered. • At this point, I inquired about the missing appetizer, and our server apologized. However, our water glasses and bottle were empty, and despite placing the bottle in plain view for a refill, she never did. • Another staff member finally brought out the appetizer, claiming it was “fresh out of the oven,” but it was lukewarm at best. He also brought bread and refilled our water, which was appreciated since our server was rarely around. • When the check arrived, we were charged for the carrots that we never ordered, which my wife had to request be removed. The appetizer was comped, but at that point, we didn’t get to enjoy it as intended.
The Steak Disappointment
For my birthday, I wanted to try Wagyu for the first time, as I typically only order filet mignon. I’ve seen countless videos of Wagyu and have always wanted to experience it. I ordered the Wagyu filet ($125), while my son got the 7-ounce filet ($52). Don’t quote the price. • My Wagyu filet did not look or taste like Wagyu at all. It lacked the rich marbling and melt-in-your-mouth texture I expected. • My son’s standard filet was significantly better than my Wagyu filet—more tender and flavorful. • For the price, the Wagyu filet was a massive letdown, and I would not recommend it.
Sides – Bland and Forgettable
My wife and daughter mainly had lobster mac and cheese and risotto. Neither impressed: • The lobster mac and cheese was completely unremarkable—the lobster was chewy, and the dish lacked depth of flavor. • The risotto was bland and forgettable.
Final Thoughts
The food was fine at best, but the service and overall experience were disappointing. For a restaurant with this reputation and price point, I expected much better. Between service issues, a disappointing Wagyu steak, and bland sides, the meal was underwhelming.
Would I return? No. There are plenty of steakhouses that deliver better food and better service...
Read moreWe visited Opus for the first time last week. The parking lot was half empty, but all other places we tried to get into that night were packed out. That should’ve been our first clue that we should’ve turned around.
When we walked in, we were hit in the face with ambient scenting (perfume pumped into the air). We thought it was probably just a foyer thing, but the scent was being pumped throughout the restaurant. I had a headache within the first 5 minutes of being seated. It would’ve been great to smell good food throughout instead. How very odd of Opus to do this. The lighting was very dim which gave the place a dreary feel.
The overly priced steaks tasted very good, but the sides did not. The potatoes au graten were not fully cooked and it otherwise didn’t have a great taste. The glazed carrots were cold and that in and of itself was a turn off (the taste was nothing special, although maybe if they’d have been hot they would’ve tasted better?). The salads were fresh and tasty. The complimentary bread had a strange taste (store bought? frozen?) and the butter did, too.
The male server was very friendly and knowledgeable which helped us get through the meal without leaving midway through. The hostess was sitting behind the podium/desk on the phone when we arrived and there was just nothing special about her and the other girl’s demeanor/attire and half hearted greeting.
The prices here are higher than Ranch Steakhouse which Ranch is a top notch restaurant (We tried to get in there first.). Really? For lack of food and customer service overall (with the exception of our great server), it just didn’t make any sense. Suffice it to say, we won’t go back and understand why it is that the parking lot is half empty in what should’ve been a jam packed night at a very expensive...
Read moreThis place is good, but IMO not great. Our first visit to Opus Prime was 10 years ago after relocating to the OKC area. There were a lot of new places for us to try and frankly, I just forgot about this place. That said, I dislike reviews that focus on one singular aspect of the establishment and rate on that alone. I try to be objective about my overall experience, so here goes. First of all you should know that the atmosphere is here is excellent. It is well appointed furniture and high-end linens that you would expect. Even the hand towels in the washroom are high quality. Very nice ambiance that sets the mood which further enhanced by the high ceilings. The tables aren't too crowded , and while our section was full, the noise level was appropriately low. Our server was decently attentive but not overly personable, which is ok with me. We did ask about any specials they had on a Saturday night and told a bit abruptly that the single page menu on the table was the menu for the evening. Several dishes noted on their menu on the internet were absent such as the lobster cargo and French onion soup. I had a steak and she had crab legs. Both entrees were good, but not quite what I expect at that price point. We ordered the lobster mac-n-cheese that was really "fishy", and to their credit they took it off our bill. Our other sides and salads were excellent. They had a very nice Cabernet sold by the glass that we enjoyed very much, It was also priced decently for the quality. Overall, I rate at three stars. It was good but inferior to some of the other steakhouses in the area with similar pricing. I do suggest you give Opus Prime a turn on your rotation and I would rate a bit higher there was an option between three...
