Okay wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me preface this by saying, as much as I am embarrassed to admit it, I’m kind of a snob when it comes to service.
David is exceptional. He actually sat down at our table and talked with us for a good ten minutes gave us the full low down as it was our first visit (really nice touch, loved that he sat). He said “my service style is slow because I want you guys to be able to hang out”. My first thought was “dang it… my drinks are gonna come slow :/“ but I did not wait longer than 5 min for any of the drinks I ordered! Yay! That’s not what he meant by the way… he truly meant “come hang out, you’re a guest in our house”. It was so refreshing!
He was really, really detailed but also very real and honest which really amplified our experience and made us feel like we got the most out of it.
After David took our apps and drink orders, Brad (I think) came around with the bar cart. He smoked the wood chips right there at the table. My husband really enjoyed that.. and the cocktail. But when you talk about marketing and the 3 star Michelin experience, having that Smokey scent floating around the restaurant really added to the ambiance. The bar cart & bar cart tender was that extra note of individualism, prompted indulgence and next level luxury level service. Also hit made it feel more engaging, and the scent lingered contributing to the atmosphere, continuously reminding us we were at WHISKEY cake.
Now don’t get me wrong it’s like grandma is making the sides, grandpa is smoking meat, and your cousin is bringing it to the table so when I said 3 star Michelin experience I don’t mean luxury.. I mean experience. However, everything was absolutely up to par; food, service, ambiance. But! You can still wear a t-shirt!! Yay!!!!
The pace of everything was spot on. My husband and I had a lovely night with much time in between to get our buzz on, chat, and savor our meals.
We ordered the steak dinner for two. I’m the service snob and my husband is the food snob. My husband loves a nice, expensive, well prepped meat. As soon as the steak was delivered, we didn’t have time to converse because we were devouring. Everything we ordered was to die for. Obviously, you have to get the whiskey cake! With ice cream and homemade whip!
It was a really nice touch that they will give you the recipe for anything (except the whiskey cake). It really felt like you were in a family members home.
They even offered to help wheel us out on the dolly 🥹😂
Really enjoyed our whiskey cake experience! Felt very homey! Can’t wait to share with others!
I recognize that as much as the food was as amazing as it was, it also takes the people to create the atmosphere and experience. I really applaud the hospitality that David and Brad delivered! 13/10. Really proud, even though I don’t actually know them but they feel like...
Read moreI'm pretty disappointed in the portion of my Rotisserie Farm Bird meal tonight. I also ordered the summer heirloom tomato salad. I've been coming to Whiskey Cakes for the last two years, and the bird was always a hearty sized bird, and probably 2-3 cups worth of the tomato salad. Literally, you couldn't see the bottom of the plate, the last couple of times I've gone, I've noticed the flavor of the bird wasn't as savory as it had been and the vegetable portion was steadily decreasing.
Tonight we went back and it was half a bird in total (a skinny one), and maybe a half cup of the heirloom tomato salad. I was shocked. Really confused because the total was still going to be $21. I asked our server why the change as I looked through my phone for my first picture of the meal. I spent the entire time dining looking for my photo (20k kid pics to go through. And we've been enough times that I couldn't pinpoint the date). The food flavor was fine, the service was very good.
A manager came over and explained the reduced portions appearance because birds aren't as big, and they've been cutting the vegetables smaller. I didn't disagree. Some of the vegetables were cut smaller but even if I sat there and stuck all the pieces of the vegetables together like a puzzle, they still wouldn't have been the size of what the portions used to be.
They asked if I was okay with the bird, I forget exact wording. I said I still wanted it, I was still going to eat it. It's the only thing I've ever ordered there (I'm a creature of habit), and I would still pay for it. I was just shocked that I was getting less than half the portion size and going to pay full price.
When we got our ticket the bird was comped and so were some of our drinks. We tipped according to our service (25%).
I'm sure there are other good things on the menu but nothing I'm willing to try. There wasn't a notice on the menu of portion changes either.
And I do get it. Inflation etc. However, most of the food changes in restaurants happened a couple of years ago as a result of covid.
I usually leave with my leftovers because I can never finish that meal in the resturaunt and snack on my vegetables on the drive home. Tonight I didn't get full and had no leftovers. Except the 5 large pieces of croutons that were put in the salad (I think to give the appearance of the salad being large still), except that the old portions only included 2 or 3 croutons and I never ate them then either.
It's a shame to leave a restaurant still hungry and disappointed. I likely won't be going back for awhile, especially for the prices and cuts being what they are.
When I find the first photo, I'll post it...
Read moreFabulous! Beyond my expectations. I'm hoping to return to sample more. Service was most excellent. We needed a little quieter area as we were entertaining our eldest of the clan. They accommodated us as much as possible.
Our server, Logan, was attentive and arranged all we asked for, with smiles. It could not have gone better. I loved my Grilled Chicken salad. Yum. Learning about the spices, requested my dressing on the side. They were good. Very. I liked the basil aioli better than the vinaigrette. Just my preference.
Did I say it was Gluten Free? Yes. Yum, too They brought me a GF roll to substitute for the pita bread the others ate with the hummus. It was GF and it was easy to put hummus on my plate. They brought out some of their house made potato chips, also gluten free they said. I'll try. Tasty! More oily than I usually do, and only now wonder what kind of oil. The taste was fresh, so I didn't think to ask.
Their coffee was most excellent! Our elder had real coffee, mine was decaf. Beautiful way of serving. French press. Let it rest. Cream and liquid sweetener was presented as well. I used all the cream, no sweetener. Rich. Perfect. Large cups. Took my last cup in go cup.
My salad was most excellent. The plate was full of perfectly arranged pieces. Little bits of tiny, sliced in half tomatoes. Loved the bacon too much, cheddar shredded (no bag ready made here!), boiled egg, sliced black olives, and moist grilled chicken, perfectly spiced, all decorated the bed of various lettuces including spinach. Loved every bite.
One in our party ordered same as mine, our elder gent ordered Ribs. They were definitely smoked differently than I do at home. I really tried not to stare. Whiskey smoked? I don't know, but maybe. He devoured them, so they must have been delicious. He hardly touched his mac n cheese, but ate a lot of hummus even before the ribs came.
He ordered a Whiskey Cake to go home with saying he would be having a nap and then brewing his own coffee to go with the Whiskey Cake. He hadn't waited on the French Press to steep. It was weaker than mine, so it seemed. Since he was the only one able to eat the treat and his heart was saying he had to have it. Plus, he insists on paying, who could refuse him? He picked out the place and we drove.
I'm already planning on another trip. The care from the Kitchen and the servers, especially Logan, well, there's food and atmosphere what...
