5/23- Main reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 after I ate meal in I ordered ice cream cone to go. I even told the young man when I ordered I would be doing that. It was pretty warm outside. I was there around 2PM. I understand not wanting a ton of remix ice cream left over at end of night but again was 2 PM. When I did order I had to wait for them to put more mix into machine there for my ice cream was very super soft even for soft serve. As for the taste it was excellent and certainly homemade vs pre made mix as they advertise. I didn't count this against based on just my personal preferences - I love dark chocolate as for chocolate but not so much as ice cream. Usually a twist cone tones down the chocolate and yes normally the chocolate at other places is milk chocolate. I am sure most like the dark but I personally didn't like even with twist. That's just me so didn't take review down. As for my 3 strip, fries and mini donut- the fries were good and was not just salted had spices which was great for flavor and certainly not over salty like many places. I know from Facebook they have many comments on fries and choosing right ones etc. The donut was tough but was 2PM and wasn't making them per order which is understandable (I managed good service for over 20 years) as for the chicken strips - they were fresh, moist and seriously not that much larger than some of the newer to KC area places that are franchise (slims, canes etc). The breading was crisp and had flavor. No my preference I would have not used as much pepper but that's my preference. The other spices in breading was great. I think main reason I gave r instead of 5 cause following the Facebook page and they hype - just not that much hype. Now they do seem to have advantage due to strips are not frozen pre breaded bought from distributor. I do not need gluten free but some need or prefer, they have that covered on many menu items. Also the amount of fries in an order based on price seemed small. I do agree the is a price for quality vs processed purchased frozen. I do get that after my years in the industry. Oh the strawberry BBQ sauce was certainly different and was ok, glad they try to be good and unique. Would be nice to have a more traditional style BBQ available. Next time will ask for honey if available or just gravy as I personally don't like the other sauce offered. Again most if what may seem negative is my personal preference and was not why I gave 4 vs 5 stars but just to help others when deciding. The 1 star off was runny ice cream on a hot day at 2PM. Read moreI was an early supporter of this place but I've slowly stopped going over time. Now first let me say that I'm not here to specifically dunk on the owner per say but I've watched this repeated pattern unfold over the years where he constantly fiddles with literally everything to the point that you can actually taste the confusion in the food as his staff has to constantly adjust to the whims of a guy who overall gives me the impression that he handles criticism rather poorly I'm afraid to say. The establishment literally says pork burgers and chicken strips in the logo but in the execution of that concept you will find that you can also order everything else under the sun that isn't rolled in to a burrito, and who knows, they'll probably have burritos eventually as well for all I can surmise. What they won't have is the countless items that have been dropped such as the ice cream, or the wings and gizzards, or the bazillion different side items that get routinely jettisoned after a few weeks or so and therefore the likelihood of you trying an item that you fall in love with but will never see again is pretty high. I've seen this dude order new menu boards for the displays like I don't know how many times and it's become something of a giggle to me to imagine how much money has been wasted on that alone when inevitably there will be tacky looking addendums written on various slips of paper notifying of the next round of revisions before you can say "The sauces are kinda mediocre aren't they?" The food isn't really the issue here though, that's looking at the problem too narrowly. What this restaurant suffers from is a top down issue that in my opinion will eventually sink them in a market with cheaper options and more consistent/more expedient service despite whatever success they may have had thus far. The restaurant business is hard but this place seems determined to make it harder on themselves. It's definitely different but contrary to the assertion of their motto, being different does not inherently translate in to being better. I would love to see them streamline everything and focus on what made them good in the beginning, which was just putting excellent food on a plate at a surprisingly good value that made you want to tell all your friends what they're missing out on. Currently I don't find myself missing it much unfortunately. I'm really not trying to be mean, I'm just being honest. Go see the circus for yourself sometime if you...
Read moreWe used to go to strips a lot even though we live in Belton. Every other week. But we stopped going becayse of life and car issues. Today we decided to go to the Olathe location and man were were shocked and disappointed. When they 1st opened and for many years after that all food was cooked hot a fresh. Yeah it took a bit but man was it worth it. Today we ordered a 3 strip meal with onion strips. We were charged for the chicken strips then the onion straws then the soda. The meal said $8.99 buy on the receipt it said $5.99 for 3 strips $4.99 for onion straws and $2.99 for soda. My son got the 5 strip meal and onion straws and drink and it was also broken down the same way. We're we over charged? We also noticed a tip was placed on our order inside the lobby. It was well over $5. We were like what? A tip at a fast food resturant thats crazy. Then we noticed the mac n cheese changed a lot it used to be really good he said it wasn't very good now and was bummed. We asked for gravy but was told they had none what? Thats a crying shame . The order was ready before we could finish filling our sodas so clearly it's pre-made and no longer cooked to order. The chicken strips tasted different too less spiced as we used to get and not freshly made. The onion straws had not changed. After we both left we felt sick to our stomachs. I don't know why we both had stomach aches. For 2 people it was $45 bucks Holy cow plus a tip was added. I think this will be the last time we go to strips. Also my son used a card with a chip. The register guy did not know how to run the card and kept swiping it. He had to explain how to use the chip. He was upset about the tip. We weren't asked if we wanted to add one or not is this added to every order for dine in? We noticed the donuts are gone. Bummer! All in all alot has changed no wraps anymore...
