Olympita might be my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the Olympia area. The pita is always fresh and perfectly cooked, with soft spongy insides and robust enough to hold a lot of food. Their shawarma is amazing, nicely browned and unctuous meat with all the spices. And the hummus…I can’t even begin to explain how refreshing it is to find hummus this good. Perfectly smooth, delicate flavor, not overpowered by any one element. And with shawarma on top: phenomenal. The kebabs are perfectly cooked, with a serious char on the outside but juicy and tender meat on the inside, a hint of spice and a big hit of lemon. It’s also the attention to detail that I love here: the presentation of the hummus, the spices they toss the onions in, and the perfectly diced veggies for the salad. Even the fries are all perfectly fried to golden brown and crisp, a feat that requires a lot of skill and attention. I have yet to try the falafel, but I have high hopes! My one suggestion would be a bit more salt on everything: the flavors speak for themselves, but a bit more salt could kick everything up just a bit more. The high quality of all the ingredients is apparent though; they source the meat locally and the veggies always taste amazing! I can’t wait to come back here and eat more. It’s...

I wanted to love it the way I remember loving the falafels and the lamb schwarma sandwiches I used to get in the Boston area, so exotic and always nice and fatty, decadent, concentrated flavor.

The schwarma part on this sandwich is really good, the lavash is too, and it is definitely a filling sandwich! Excellent amba sauce, spice without spiceyness. Fun location directly opposite the waterfront.

But they went light on the salt + on sauces (which I had been very excited for -- garlic cream sauce!!!) which all ended up at the bottom of the sandwich, so it was a bit dry ... on that point, the sweet potatoes inside are a creative touch I've never seen before, but they dominated ... but I wonder if rice or shredded lettuce instead, would have helped the sauce stick all the way through. Also I really wanted a higher meat-to-filling ratio for that fatty flavor, even if the sandwich has to be smaller.

I'll be back when they have baklava again and I'll update this review after I ask for...

I should have taken a picture when I first opened this bc it was beautiful but alas I was too busy trying to get it into my mouth. The whole top was covered with chicken that was seasoned to perfection and had this lovely white ??garlic?? sauce dabbed onto it. The only problem I had was I couldn’t mix it with how full of chicken the bowl was. Don’t worry - the chicken is delicious so eating a few forkfuls solved this problem immediately. The veggies underneath are well coated in a vinegar dressing that goes perfectly with the chicken, and the CHEESE - yum. Some menu items were unavailable due to being sourced from Palestine and the atrocities being committed there, but this is no fault of the owner, who (if he’s the one who was working today) is a lovely guy. 10/10 everything except 15/10 food.

Pro tip: spring...
