Some of my coworkers were talking about this place having the best Blackened shrimp and grit in Omaha; so I thought I come try it for myself.
This place is perfectly located on the corner of Maple St and Lynn Av in the old BENSON area.
They have some a small designated parking lot, and there is additional parking along the street too. The restaurant is spacious, very nicely decorated with a very nice selection of music playing.
The lady at the counter was very friendly and offered several suggestions. I finally decided to get the catfish, blackened shrimp with green beans, yams and a side of grits…. OH MY GOD was I surprised with my first sample of everything on my plate.
The menu is a bit busy…but once you take a second to sort through it, you will see that they have a very nice selection for everybody preference.
Overall summary = Everything was perfectly cook and tasted great! I will definitely be returning to try other things on the menu..
THE CATFISH - was cooked perfectly; seasoned well, cooked properly and seasoned to perfection.
THE BLACKENED SHRIMP - was juicy, flavorful and also cooked perfectly. I would have liked to have a larger shrimp for my order but those that I received were just fine.
THE YAMS - were cubed, and cooked perfectly; very tender with a glaze on them that was perfect.....not too sweet, it had a nice balance of seasoning with a very sticky icky good-good coating.
THE GREEN BEANS - were nicely cooked and were also seasoned very nicely.
I also had their “Who dat punch” and it was on the sweet side, but definitely a nice addition to my meal. Note: (they offer “free” refills), so be sure to get you...
Read moreUnique eatery located in the Benson neighborhood in North Omaha. Unique in terms of the style of food you get for the location of this midwestern area. You will find things like Mexican and Italian everywhere you go, but to see Cajun, and especially seeking the New Orleans style and feel is not very common to find. We decided to try the Cajun shrimp tacos and the Andouille smothered fries. We split both, so we each had more than one things to try. Both of us found both items to be quite good. Things we’d certainly not hesitate to try again. However, there is a broad menu, so we would not mind exploring a bit as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. They were a little underprepared when we showed up close to open time, so there was a bit of a wait, but they were very forthcoming about it before we ordered, so we knew what to expect. We were in no hurry, so we ordered and found a table, and the wait was under what they predicted. Place had an older unique feel (in a good way), and best we could tell, is it seemed like a former auto service shop converted into this. But again, in a good vibe type of way. They have ice cream for desert and a lot of unique flavors along with a story of how it came about. I have photos of that stuff as well, if you want to read it. Over all, we liked this place. I’ve been to NOLA 4 of the past 5 years, and enjoy the local food. So it was nice to find something like this so far North. We are not from Omaha, but we are a lot closer to Omaha than NOLA, so we plan to...
Read moreI heard so much about this place prior to coming to the city, so I decided to give it a try. On the app, it said that their special was the catfish stuffed jambalaya. But when I got there, they only had pastas as their specials. I was so disappointed because I was really looking forward to the stuffed catfish. We settled on one blackened catfish and shrimp special and one fried catfish special with shrimp. After paying for our meal, we were told, "Hey, I forgot we don't have any shrimp." How can you forget a major item like that, especially after we've already paid and are expecting shrimp?
When we got back home to enjoy our meal, we found out they had given us both fried fish instead of one blackened and one fried. Another disappointment. They didn't give enough sauce for the fish or fried items, just one small container. The smothered green beans were extremely salty, and the candy yams were way too sweet. The only positive thing I can say is that the fried catfish had flavor, but it was so thin. Overall, I was just let down by the experience. I don't understand how you can run out of a main staple like shrimp and only tell your customers after they've paid. We had to come up with our own solution because the cashier didn't offer anything extra, even though we paid for something they didn't have. We asked for an extra piece of fish in exchange for the...
