This place is disappointing 98 percent of the time, which is unfortunate because there are almost no other choices in the area. Inevitably bad service; inattentive wait staff; COLD food; below average coffee and terribly old uncomfortable booths that should have been replaced 30 years ago. The charm of an older diner only goes so far if your food is cold and your gut is sinking into your low back because of the way you have to sit on the 50+-year old booths with the springs poking into your behind. The cafe is also not the cleanest, and recently seem to have raised their prices twice. We paid over $18 for the chicken fried steak breakfast, and it came out completely cold. The patty seemed previously frozen and had a bit of a rancid taste. The eggs were underdone (overeasy doesn't mean soupy and cold); and this place has stopped making their own bread, which was one of the draws for me. I cannot stress enough how much they need to buy new booth seating and tables. If you are going to charge New York City prices, surely you can afford to make sure your patrons are comfortable and attended to. Instead, almost every single time I have been here, the service is extremely slow, the food underpar, and they always end up having to give us a discount on our bill for their shortcomings. Not a great way to run a business. Worst yet, the owner has been present in the cafe while these things occur, yet seems oblivious to the poorly cooked food and crummy service. Again, when there is no competition, it's easy to see why they've been...
Read moreI've passed by Harold's koffee house more times then I can count always wondering why it stays packed. Well I got my answer this morning I happen to get an early break and felt a little hungry and decided I was gonna treat myself to a meal I was on my way to village inn I passed Harold's up glancing thrust the window as usual at all the customer's decided to turn around and see what the fuss was all about I'm so happy I did as soon as I stepped thru the door I was greeted and told to have a seat anywhere I'd like my waiter Matt was very helpful this being my first time he told me about everything on the menu in full detail made great suggestions and was very attentive so when they tell you they have the best coffee in town they are not fibbing and the food I had the most tenderous steak ever it melted in my mouth homemade hash browns and my toast was made from there homemade bread. So people if you're tired of the same old same old " village inn and ihop" then stop by Harold's koffee house you will be surprised at the food the atmosphere and the friendly staff not only will I be recommending this place to friends and family but will be returning. Read moreThe BEST breakfast steak in town!!!!! They were busy and my life partner and I had to wait a minute for them to clear the table we were at as the last bite of the previous dinner's steak sat on a plate before us. It smelled so good we just had to order some of our own and we ended up making sure the waitress told the chef how wonderful everything was. Melt in your mouth breakfast steaks cooked to perfection and they even know what blue means (Pittsburg rare). The most evenly cooked, mouth watering breakfast steak I've ever had. As we left my life partner and I agreed that THIS is our default breakfast go to. Everything else was amazing too. Eggs cooked exactly how they're ordered, to perfection, hash browns not to crispy but not at all mushy, all so good!!!!!
Edit: and they even make their own donuts. Chocolate, cinnamon sugar, and vanilla. My life partner and I split a vanilla and it was the best donut I've ever had. I added this as an edit because it was the best donut I've ever had but that steak was so good I forgot about it until after I posted this...
