Mother's Day Disaster
I usually enjoy Hiro 88 reserve happy hour every Sunday due to the pricing of their rolls. I enjoy the selection and the décor of the restaurant. I went on Mother's Day late at night and was seated. I was having a good time at the table until the bill came. It was twice then what I was expecting. When I asked the server about the mistake, it was only then I was notified they were not doing reserve happy hour due to Mother's Day and I should have noticed a sign on the door.
I immediately became upset. I did not notice the sign on the door due to a large group leaving and the door being hold opened for me. With the restaurant no longer using menus post Covid, I did not know the happy hour menu wasn't an option. At no point was I told by any member of the staff that happy hour was not being severed today until it was too late.
I paid my bill and walked out with no intention coming back soon. Blue Sushi is going to get my business now until I can forgot this experience. It is terrible that the one day we give the women of our lives a break from cooking, they force them to pay full price. Usually, the restaurant is packed on Sunday but now I understand why so few people showed up. I believe it was terrible idea to get rid of happy hour in combination with the lack of communicate that happy hour was cut expect for a small printed sign on the door. I feel like I have been scammed. Our service was below what I usually get doing normal happy hour and I usually could let that go but that's hard to forgive after...
Read moreI used to love Hiro. I ordered from here for dinner quite a bit when I'm stuck at work late and can't leave - between two of us, our typical order is around $40-50. However, I reduced the stars I would normally give them because I'm a huge sashimi fan.... and the last few times I've ordered, I've been skimped on the sashimi. As in, their sashimi per piece size has been the size and shape of a lego brick - about an inch long - seriously they were the shapes of lego bricks.
It was as if they took a normal 3xSashimi order, cut the pieces in half, and served me 3 of these "half" pieces. Never have I seen ANY sushi place serve sashimi like this. I question their methods on trying to save money or what...highly unimpressed and would NOT recommend for their sashimi if they continue this practice - and probably not on their sushi rolls if they are skimping fish everywhere.
I even ordered sashimi an additional 2 times (a platter one time, and ala carte the other time) after this first event of half pieces to see if maybe it was a new chef or something, but nope...same thing the rest of the time as well. Considering I used to order 1-2 times per week to now not ordering...I wonder if they are really saving what they think they are saving by...
Read moreWe ordered our food at 4:24pm with a request to have it completed by 7:30pm. I arrived at 7:30pm but the food wasn’t done yet, which was fine. I decided to wait at the bar in the restaurant, at 7:42pm the bartender asked me if I wanted a drink while I waited. I asked the hostess how much longer it would be and she said another 10 to 15 minutes! At 8:00pm the manager came to tell me that the food was being made now, at which point I asked him why it was taking so long. He responded by asking if we ordered through the website or grubhub? Why would it matter? Then when I let him know this has happened before to us, he asked if it was on a Sunday? Why would it matter what day it was if we give you a 3 hour cushion? Another gal who had also been waiting asked for a status on her order, since she had been waiting roughly 20 minutes. After she had been letting the manager know about her frustrations he responded with, “it’s not fast food”. I wouldn’t be writing this review if it wasn’t for the horrible customer service from that manager. We will no longer be eating at Hiro 88 off of...
