Hunan Fusion was a surprise because I had read a 1 star review on Trip Adviser and was a bit reluctant. That reviewer said they had 4 dished which all sucked and a they had a fight with the cook. I am a foodie so I have high standards.
I had not been to House of Hunan for a long, long time. The last time I was there I remembered it looking old and outdated. Tonight a friend suggested that we go to the new Hunan Fusion as it is now called. The establishment is totally remodeled and looks nothing like the old H.O.H. The dining room has a sushi bar along the wall of one end. It is modern, understated elegance with some hip accent lighting in the form of red and blue neon lighting on the ceiling. The bathrooms were clean and sharp looking. We got there just at 5 PM so it was slow, by the time we left at 6:30 the dining room was almost full and a fairly steady stream was coming in.
The entree menu is set up (as far as meat dishes) by protein: chicken in one column, beef, in the next and then shrimp with the corresponding price down that column. That made it easy to see what you were paying for. I liked that. We shared a fried calamari appetizer. Presentation was great and the calamari was cooked to perfection. Calamari is one of those dishes that are easy to over cook. This was yummy and not rubbery at all. (I forgot to take a photo, sorry). My entree was the Ta Chin chicken. That was described to me as a spicier version of a sweet and sour sauce. This was very good, but the chick was just a shade over cooked, and I do mean just a shade. There is also the option of rice. I chose the healthier brown rice. It is too rare that you get brown rice at most Asian establishments so that is always a plus in my book.
There was nothing wrong with any of the other dishes my party chose and we all enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable and I expect to be there again soon. The one problem that we had was our party of three wanted to split the check, which they did, but there was no way to split the shared appetizer and guess who got stuck with that...
Read moreCame here because we were offered a great deal on a groupon. The food was great, but the customer service was horrible. Before ordering we asked our server if we can use the deal that we received on one ticket and she said yes. Towards the end we ended up paying double and charged full price for items that were on the happy hour menu. On the deal it said you may use it but the money can not go towards happy hour items. So from a basic understanding you would have to pay out of pocket for those happy hour items. But instead you are charged full price for EVERYTHING!!! When we asked the server at the beginning if we could apply the deal she told us yes. No where did she say that you can “but you would be charged full price for everything”. She then comes to tell us that she told us we would be charged full price(which she never did). We then asked to talk to a manager to better understand and she refused to go get the manager. Then says the manager is too busy without even going to see or ask. We told her we would have for her if she’s too busy. After our server refused to get us the manager and wanted to argue with us about us just wanting to understand what we are paying for, she finally gave in. Only to come back and tell us that the manger is too busy to come out and talk to her customers that provide her service and a source of income. At the end of the day I’m more than willing to pay for what I have purchased, but if it’s your fault for not wording things right and misleading your customers, I think at least an apology is owed which we never got. I have been here multiple times and love their food, but with the way the manager and server treated us, I will never recommend them to anyone due to their...
Read moreI ordered the spider roll and a salad with carrot ginger dressing with extra ginger and eel, and no cucumber in the roll.
The spider roll contains: soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber, masago, lettuce, and eel sauce.
I don’t know if they just completely gave me the wrong roll or what but it was disgusting. The soft shell crab was fried and most of what I had was just fried batter and not even crab. No I didn’t order a fried roll either. There was lettuce in the roll, and only one slice of avocado for the two rolls that were ordered. Only one. There was no masago. The rolls were sloppily cut either being to thin to pick up with chopsticks or too wide to even eat. The rolls also had cut marks from where the rolls were cut into and they looked like they were being hacked at.
The eel sauce didn’t taste like eel sauce (I ordered extra because I love eel sauce). It tasted like thickened soy sauce, which was gross. They did give me a lot of extra ginger which I was excited for! (I love ginger). They also left out the cucumber like I asked. The salad looked so fresh and i was excited to have it but the dressing was more like blended up carrot and ginger than a dressing. It smelled gross and didn’t use it.
I only ate 4 out of the 10 pieces of sushi before feeling nauseous and having to stop and the rest went in the trash.
I kept the ginger and the salad as those were the only two things I was happy with out of everything. If I could give a zero star review I would. We ended up getting a refund which I’m thankful for, but things need to be properly...
