EDIT 1 year later (I gave 2 stars but after talking to a different guy than the lady before, he just said "Ask for sliced beef when ordering online". I have been getting perfect brisket BBQ! To be honest I normally order from them for their beans. Their bean are better than I have ever made. We all need more fiber, no?)
I have ordered delivery many many times and I was always happy with my sandwiches. This time ordered the brisket sandwich and it was obviously finely pulled beef that was then minced into very fine particles. The largest size was has less mass than a single bean in my side.
Before I took a bite I called and spoke to woman who seemed to not want to answer my question until she could see where I was going. Quite rude and not a good sign from a "manager".
I assumed they were closing in 15mins and I just got all the fine table scrapings. She said "we do not serve sliced brisket on sandwiches". Well look at your photos. I did not ask for money, nor a discount. I just don't like to pay full price for scraps.
She was full of toxic masculine comments so I ended the conversation with the only answer being two. I was wrong on two points and I was lier that I got sliced sandwiches every time before.
After that I took my first bite. It was table scraping because it was too salty to eat. I love their food and have never had it salty, let alone too salty.
If she was just honest and did not talk down to me, things would be different. Why is it ok to call me a lier when I take a photo of my meals? It was shocking to me.
The beans were great, I liked the raw onions this time. I just don't think I would ever order takeout towards closing. Yet she said I should have known it is finely pulled then minced. Yet the pork is labeled correctly, no? What about all the other dishes. Toxic masculinity is what I felt from her. Honesty and wholesomeness were not even in the back seat but...
Read moreI have went to Oklahoma Joes on 2 occasions, and I have mixed feelings about their food. Their meats are delicious, their sauce is amazing, BUT their sides are ATROCIOUS. I find it hard to believe that the same people cooking the meats are the ones making the sides.
On my first visit I got the 2 meat plate with pulled pork, beef brisket, mac n cheese, and BBQ beans. The pulled pork was beautiful, flavorful and juicy. The brisket was very tasty, top notch. And I think I could eat their BBQ sauce on a shoe and it would still taste good. THEN I tried the mac n cheese and it is terrible, completely flavorless. I tried the beans, and they were OK, but unspectacular.
On my second visit, I got the same thing only with cole slaw and onion rings. Again the meats were excellent, BUT the sides were terrible. The onion rings were edible, but unspectacular. The cole slaw was ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE, I took one bite and literally SPIT IT OUT! I'm talking DISGUSTING.
I don't get it, you obviously are getting the meats and sauces right, but the sides are TERRIBLE. Look, anyone with taste buds can taste that slaw and tell that it is TERRIBLE, I'm not sure how that got the seal of approval to be served. I make better cole slaw on my own in 2 minutes than these amateurs. I make better tasting mac n cheese from doctoring up some Kraft mac n cheese than these guys.
You all need to come up with some better recipes for your side dishes. And the piece of bread with no butter is also stupid. If you put half as much effort into your side dishes as you do into your meats, you'll thrive. But, you won't thrive when HALF your food is good and...
Read moreSadly, I did not have a option to leave No Stars. This place is clean and very nice inside. I have been to the Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas about 4 years ago. It was good there.
I came during lunch on a Tuesday. Not busy. I noticed the restaurant didn't smell like BBQ. Generally, not a good sign. Two customers eating inside. I ordered the 2 meat entree. Ribs and sliced brisket and my 2 sides were potato salad and baked beans. The lady that took our order wasn't friendly or welcoming. Rude.
As I waited for our food I noticed they put my ribs on the grill. I asked why they were put on the grill and she said to give the "char" taste on the ribs. Ugh, the char is not needed. Smoked meat is perfect the way it is!
Once I sat down and tasted the ribs, I knew why they "charred" them. They tasted old!! They have to heat up the days old ribs. The brisket was extremely dry. The fake smoke ring was so noticeable too. I asked if the meat was fresh and cooked that day. She said "Yes." Then I asked why does the meat taste old and why do they have to put them on the grill if they are freshly smoked. She stated that sometimes they cook a few days worth of food at one time. AH HA. Explains why the meat tasted old and dry and the restaurant did NOT smell like smoked meats!
She did offer to replace the meat. I said, No thanks because it will still be dry and taste old. Needless to say, I had one rib and 2 slices of brisket . The sides were okay. What a shame. I will never return again for some old dry meat. Smoking meat is like a art and is time consuming, but if its done FRESH DAILY many customers will FOLLOW...
