Beautiful setting, cute name, it looks like a nice place to have a drink. (We didn't order any drinks tonight though) I appreciate you can park either in the front or the back. It's in a medium size shared parking lot.
Fried Brie 4 stars It's pretty standard, though the outside is quite nice and crispy. It cooled off pretty fast.
Crispy branzino 3 stars The couscous was delicious, but this fish was a definite skip for me. Not crispy and very bland. The accompaniments were much better than the main dish which is why a 3 and not a 2.
Peppered filet 3 stars We found it lacking in flavor. We did speak to our server who informed us that they do not add a lot of salt to their food.
Crispy duck 5 stars Lightly crispy and flavorful (no salt missing here, but also not salty. The risotto was also very well balanced.
We found the two main meats missing salt whereas the third was fine. Our server explained, as I said in the peppered filet notes that they do not salt their food very much. I would recommend they have salt and pepper on the table (we were sitting in the patio area) or offer it to the client when serving up these dishes.
Service started off strong but when we told them about the issues the initial response was a bit defensive. Later someone else came and assured us they would like into it and take our feedback into consideration. Had it been left with the initial response I might have given this a 3 because I would not want to deal with a restaurant that cannot take feedback, but they did seem to listen to us after and hopefully will make some changes. I look forward to returning at some point to see if they do.
I also ordered a Caprese salad too go. 4 stars The balsamic dressing was excellent.
There were no napkins, forks or anything to eat it with however. I'm not sure if that's standard or you need to ask for it, but if you are grabbing a lunch to go and not eat at your home, you might want to be prepared and have these items or else...
Read moreVisited the Goat last evening for Happy Hour, for the first time.
We have been in this space over the years from the original 7 Monkeys to the transition to 7M Grill and now the Stokin Goat (originally supposed to be the Smokin Goat, but changed due to conflicts).
So, the inside is still a very welcoming, eclectic environment with some very nice upgrades. Great patio area on the west side, but not directly in sun due to a cover and adjacent building.
We chose to sit barside and ordered a couple of HR drinks. Both were made with well liquor (not my choice) and though my wife liked her Moscow Mule just fine, my Kentucky Mule was weak and not to my liking. I therefore switched to a premium bourbon and it was great.
We decided to try an appetizer or two, so started with the homemade onion dip and likewise chips. The dip was minus the advertised caramelized onions and had too much of a mayo like taste (albeit, should be sour cream) and the chips were grease soaked. After a few bites, I pushed it away.
We were going to order the Thai infused calamari but a neighboring patron said it was just ok, so we passed and went straight to a main course item.
My wife chose the grilled sea bass and I the garlic shrimp risotto. Both were delicious and we would order again on a return visit.
We then sampled all three desert offerings; bread pudding, flan and chocolate molten cake. The flan was fabulous and the other two just ok.
The staff behind the bar were friendly but overly busy and therefore not as attentive as we would have liked. All in all, I liked the Goat a lot and my wife was on the fence.
Our bill was $137.00 with the $25.00 tip, but we did overdose on deserts so it was in the range of what we normally spend on Friday evening...
Read moreLast night we dined at The Stokin' Goat for the first time!
We landed an awesome booth in the corner perfect for people watching and our waiter was fabulous and attentive. The vibe in the space is funky with goat decor but ambient with dim lighting and a transparent wine wall display. There’s a private room behind the wine wall that seats 10 people that I would LOVE to dine at next time.
I ordered the Australian lamb half rack of ribs with asparagus and subbed the cauliflower purée instead of the potatoes. I would have preferred the asaparagus roasted instead of steamed so I didn’t eat much of it. The cauliflower purée however I had to have my significant other taste test because that super creamy deliciousness tasted exactly like the most perfect buttery mashed potatoes... but if you pay close enough attention to the flavor profile it is in fact cauliflower. This side dish needs more prominence on the menu. I need more of it in my life. The lamb rack itself came with a black cherry glaze and rosemary garnish that complimented the tender medium rare meat perfectly. I was concerned I only had a butter knife and fork to tackle this baby but it cut like butter... I definitely chose the right dish.
My S.O. ordered the garlic shrimp risotto with a white wine cream sauce that was topped with shaved parmesan and green onions. I had a bite and it was divine. The portion size definitely could’ve have been bigger though. Just like my cauliflower purée. Did I not ask for a bucket? I could’ve sworn I said a bucket...
All in all an excellent dining experience. Their covered patio also looks incredible so we may have to sit out...
