A delightful restaurant-diner with friendly and helpful staff, quick service, classic favorites, with very reasonable prices! TL;DR: Plenty of booth and table seating and space between. Breakfast meals were veggie eggs Benedict and biscuit with sausage gravy and any style eggs. Both came with a big serving of hash, but was a tad dry. Fresh juice opened from bottles was a pleasant surprise. All for about $24 plus tip. On our way down to another trip to the Outer Banks, our halfway stop was at Onley, just past Chincoteague. After packing up and starting the second half of the trip, we stopped for breakfast at Sage Diner and were very pleased with the entire experience! When you're on a road trip, you look for a sit-down experience that's quick, affordable, but also a comfortable experience with tasty food and Sage delivered on all levels! We were seated and served quickly and noticed some interesting daily specials--sweet potato waffles, biscuits and sausage gravy, the good ol' SoS, just to make a few. After getting our coffees, which were piping hot and fresh (unlike some other recent diner experiences), and pineapple juice poured straight from a container, we ordered and waited only about 10 minutes for our food. My fuel of choice was the biscuit with sausage gravy, two over easy eggs and hash. The biscuit was warm and fluffy as expected and the gravy was that smooth creamy sage bite everyone loves from homemade white gravy! Definitely a great job on this classic! My wife went with a vegetarian riff on eggs Benedict that she said was very filling and delicious. The poached eggs were served on their traditional bed of English muffins with a seared slice of tomato underneath and melted Swiss cheese on top. The sharpness of the Swiss cheese gave the dish a great bite and helped tie all the flavors together! If there was one thing to nitpick, both of our servings of hash, although plentiful, were dry. A bit of extra hot sauce helped even this out though and ultimately didn't detract from how much we both enjoyed the experience. Thank you for helping our journey down to OBX be just as enjoyable as the stay itself! We'll definitely come by again!

THE OASIS. We were traveling this highway for the first time. It was dinnertime and we hadn't eaten since breakfast. The pickings were bleak. We passed a faded "Sage Diner" sign, but no diner! Later, we came upon the present diner and decided that it was this or nothing! Serendipity! Our Country Fried Steaks were perfect! Service was just right. It was not busy at the time. Our waitress, Samantha, told us that she had been with Sage right from the beginning (Was she 12 when she started?). The location that we passed was the original one that had burned down. It came back in the present location. In the end, we were well rewarded for making that U-turn! At the time of this review, Sage had an extensive "Dinner for Two" menu (Mix and match) with some attractive prices. We likely won't make this trip again, but we know where to eat if we do!

10JUNE2025 This place has been around since I was a kid(1980’s) and this was my first time ever eating here. I was in town visiting my father and the only reason why me and my family ate here was due to my father wanting to eat here. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. I’ve traveled extensively and have eaten in the best places and I’ve had better. The mozzarella sticks were good and the marinara sauce was too thick. That chicken caesar wrap was not edible..cubed chicken inside the wrap was very dry and why would there be rice inside of a chicken caesar wrap is beyond my thoughts. I guess the flavorless food for the shore is the thing. Some like this type of cooking..to each their own. I hope not to eat here again. Customer service was very friendly and nice. Clean establishment and ample parking.

I will say overall great place. I love the girl at the front although she messed up sometimes but means well and tries to correct it and is so so sweet. The 2 for 20ndeal is awesome. We were having a run of missing ltems or wrong ones for example sides or desserts on our last orders but the latest one was perfect and before that stretch of them they were correct and food good. In that stretch we had about 3 orders with something wrong or missing or not taste the same, then a correct order but tasted off, then 1 with 1 thing wrong, then 2 orders messed up, then 1 correct, then 1 tastes off and now 1 latest perfect. Before our first I'll say "off" order, we had at least 3 to 4 that were amazing. So I truly believe it's a factor of how busy they are in this area and then just general human error and maybe time of day when you order you definitely don't want to order last moments of the night so if they have an hour or more until closing I would say you'd be fine after that is where you can start to tell that it was near closing with the taste or portion size or something like that but I mean they can't cook all day just extra food in hopes that people will order so that's not really something that should be taken into account as far as their quality or service because what does one expect and especially in this area so I'm definitely giving them credit the staff is wonderful the food is normally amazing and if they do make an error they'll fix it and they are also one of our only sit-down restaurants out here at all so I do applaud them for being here for us and they have been in business for so many years I've been going to them since they're burned down location 10 years ago I don't know when the fire happened but I've been going to sage diner for 10 years I can say and I go back so obviously whether my order is incorrect or taste off or anything like that I keep going back and I will continue to keep going back they would have to have a bit more orders wrong and messed up to shy me away their food is amazing prices have seemed pretty good especially for the quality of the food but I have noticed however that little by little and between weeks or month to month the owner is increasing the prices on the menu 50 cents here dollar to there and eventually out here we won't be able to afford to go there and our dining there of at least once a week spending anywhere between 40 to $60 each visit will become to maybe once a month so I really hope that they maybe see my review and can somehow keep their prices steady and not rising because heck we ate there twice this week and then about two weeks ago ate there and then two weeks before that either three times or so so my name is I'm sure could be off but what I'm saying is we eat there very frequently due to the price quality and customer service but we won't even be able to go for the great quality and customer service if we can't afford to so to the owners there please stop raising the prices find another way to implement the cost if you were merchandise that you are needing to run your business go up and no I don't have a business so I'm not sure what to tell you to do for that but as far as my review for them I definitely recommend you check them out and check out their two for 20 dinner there's about 18 to 20 different options come with sides and desserts and salads and soups and The taste is really amazing I recommend the stuffed chicken breast the fried pork chop the meatloaf and then off of that two for $20 I just adore their catfish and their burgers are pretty big as well and I get those for my kids the only other recommendation I would have is to expand their sides for example they don't offer mac and cheese or corn asparagus brussel sprouts peas maybe they can fill in a twist of like garlic mashed potatoes or something twice baked potato I don't know just something to spice up their sides a bit that's my biggest downfall when looking at their menu and I dredge versus other restaurants is I love the main course but I really have no...

2020 Edit: We were very impressed with Sage when we first ate here almost one year ago. Since then, we've stopped here whenever we need to make a trip to the area, and we've stopped by several times. We always order the popcorn shrimp for our son. He usually loves it! But tonight, his popcorn shrimp was so sad. :( It was extremely chewy and rubbery and he did not want it at all. I don't know if it was not fresh or maybe overcooked. My husband tried to eat some of it since it was the most expensive thing we ordered. But it was mostly wasted. It's now the next day and my husband isn't feeling so great. There was definitely something going on with the popcorn shrimp this time.

My family ate here yesterday and had a wonderful experience! The diner had been recommended by a family member who visits whenever they are passing through the area, so we were excited about trying it out. We were greeted with a warm welcome and smiles towards our 2 little ones- that's already a thumbs up from me! We were asked whether we would like a booth or table, and then were walked towards the back, which was also appreciated because of our baby! Our waitress was kind and helpful. And all of our food was delicious!! Even the side salad. Normally I shy away from side salads because they come out all wilted and sad looking. But this one was crisp and fresh. We ordered the fried shrimp basket, lasagna, and pancakes with bacon. Everything was awesome. The diner itself is a cozy place with the typical diner bar seating in the back. Also, another small but important thing that stood out- all of the bottles on the table were super clean. I could actually pick up the salt and ketchup bottle without worrying about sticky goo getting all over my fingers and wondering whether I should wash my hands again before finishing my meal. Lol that may seem like a small thing, but literally every other diner I've ever been to has had sticky bottles and salt/pepper shakers on their tables. Overall, this is a family-friendly restaurant with really yummy food, affordable prices, and friendly...
