Happy Buffet — Restaurant in Onley

$7.95 extensive lunch buffet, hot, fresh, clean, plenty well-lit, comfortable. Health inspector was present this time and seemed to be very happy with things, so it looks like another Pass for the Happy Buffet!

Update: Another rare opportunity to grab a bite out for lunch. Once again, The Happy Buffet did not disappoint. It seems the lunch buffet price has dropped to $7.25, a delightful surprise. The selection remains the most diverse on the Eastern Shore, to my knowledge. While it's not all that 5-star fru-fru cuisine in small portions for large prices with singing staff, it is quite edible and far better than any typical buffet restaurant, whether it be Asian, seafood, country style, etc., that I've come across. The staff always seems vigilante and respectful; most are Asian and they all speak English to varying degrees, so they are more than capable of taking care of all the customers, regardless of what language the customers speak, in my experience over the years. It's an enjoyable stop at 11am on a Friday before hitting the Marina... enjoy the Eastern Shore Post and Chincoteague Beacon newspapers (available for free on the bench at the front register) and a well-balanced meal that puts fast food and most restaurants to shame around here for quality, quantity, price, options, friendliness and cleanliness... We don't have many options on the Eastern Shore, but of the few Chinese restaurants, this one is probably the best. They have had some corrected violations from the local health dept. (the info is available on the Accomack county website) and that always makes me nervous. The food quality seems pretty consistently decent. One time I told an employee about lukewarm food on one of the buffet bars and she jumped to correct the problem. That was encouraging. One thing that really bothers me about this restaurant is that the chairs feel dirty when I grab them to sit down. The items on the table do not feel like they are ever properly washed. I read the reviews before going here last week. When you're hungry, your stomach tends to lead you to any place. Not to mention, it was a rainy day too, so you're just looking for something... This ranks top 10 worst buffets in America. The fact that it even exists is a testament to the fact that people eat anything. What gets me is the sushi. I've never had lettuce sushi before. Just playing in my face like that. Not to mention how small it is. The restaurant itself led me to believe that there was some mold and mildew and the lighting was so dull. If you're having a bad day, then please do not go here or else you'll probably unalive yourself. However, this is America! People will still go here, but I pretty much went here for all of the people who take reviews seriously enough to not commit the same mistake that I made....
