We stopped in for dinner hoping to get a good Louisiana Cajun meal but were disappointed. The hostess & our server were friendly. We first tried to order some crawfish only to be told that they didn't have any because the season is over. I got the crab cakes & they were ok at best. When I was ordering, I noticed that they offered a special sauce for the crab cakes so I asked to try it before I shucked out an extra $3.50 for dipping sauce. I was told that I couldn't try it because the cooks make it when someone orders it? Instead the cakes came with some kind of mustard dipping sauce that was hot(temperature).. usually dipping sauce on the side of a dish is not served hot. My husband ordered the all you can eat fish and shrimp. His first plate of seafood was lukewarm so he asked the server to bring him a fresh order of hot shrimp so she did. It was hot but just not good..very greasy and flavorless. My crab cakes were the same. After seeing all the pics of yummy food and good reviews online, we were surprised to get such bland food. After a long day on the road, we were ready to enjoy a relaxing dinner. Well, that was practically impossible because there was an employee standing in the to go area that pretty much got paid to do nothing. If he wasn't on his phone, he was talking so loudly to the hostess that I could hear every word he said. He had access to a cordless phone which he carried in his pocket so he should have been helping bus tables or checking on customers during all of the down time he had. During this time where places don't have enough help, there should never be time where anyone is standing around on company time on their phones. And to make matters worse, the cooks were constantly yelling out from the kitchen for the servers to come pick up their orders. There has to be a better system to communicate between the kitchen and dining room. I'm hoping that was just an off night for this place. But we left there disappointed that we had spent too much of our hard earned money on a...
Read moreI've been here quite a few times, and while I want to give them more than a 4 star, they aren't quite deserving of such a rating. The service is always good, staff is very friendly, and food doesn't typically take too long. What I find lacking is the quality in some foods. Some of the appetizers, while not bad, and properly cooked, are lacking a bit in flavor. Their sauces and toppings often make up for the base of the dishes shortcomings, but it is something that can't be helped but noticed. The fried green tomatoes and the fried mushrooms are two of those such dishes that I can think of, with the mushrooms having a tendency to be especially watery and bland. These complaints can also be made for their Eggplant Atchafalaya, but the sauce and toppings definitely make up for its lack in flavor, making it worth it. That being said I can definitely say that the seared salmon, the Cajun Girl Po'boy, and their sirloin steak are good choices, as well as the seafood salad. Each of these dishes brings a lot more to the table than their appetizers, and the salmon, po'boy, and salad are robust in both flavor and content. The seared salmon is best cooked medium rare, making it juicy and supple. The sauce adds a burst of complexity, bringing together the flavors in the rice and spinach. This dish is easily my favorite of the items I've ordered here. They are a little pricey, and I don't quite feel like most of the dishes warrant their cost, but some of them are worth it. The atmosphere is also lacking, the interior being dark, and most of the seating being old and in need of updating. Overall though, they are definitely...
Read moreWe are very fortunate to have this place in Opelousas as their crawfish are really great! The seasoning is perfect and it keeps me coming back. My hubby isn't always in the mood for crawfish, but I could eat them here all the time. He really enjoys the other food, usually the po'boys. We would go more, but It is hard to order for our son who is picky and doesn't like seafood or most standard things on the kid's menu. He usually settles on corn dogs there as they are featured, but they are always out of them. I realize our son needs to broaden his culinary horizons, but he's not there yet so it makes it hard to order when the item we fall back on is always unavailable. Other than that, we'd be here a lot more. Which brings me to the other issue: Wonky hours. They're usually closed when we want to go. I understand about Sundays in general, but they're only open for a short lunch time, from 11 am -2 pm, on both Sundays and Mondays. It seems that it would make more sense to be closed all morning until the dinner hours of 5-9 pm like the rest of the week. They're always busy, so it's not for a lack of business. It's disappointing to decide you want to hit Crawfish House for dinner, then realize you have to drive to Lafayette instead. Anyway, just check that schedule to make sure they're open when you get the yen to go because there's a chance they'll be closed. Other than that, it's a great place ... great crawfish, great other food, enthusiastic service, fun atmosphere and cute lil bathrooms. There's usually a wait, so be...
