One of the better Steak 'n Shake's around and I ought to know. They've been a favorite of mine since my first steak burger back in the 80s at the old one near the Winter Park mall. Also miss the old Daytona one too. Sweet 50s vibe there. Once drove a first date from Flagler College to Daytona, closest one at the time, not realizing she was vegan, for a steakburger...that went well. :/ Used to do the Altamonte one so often, recovering mall rat here, they offered me a high school job and I was one of the happiest bus boys ever, dreaming of what to eat when my shift was over; and all the waitresses always treated me really nice. Best few months ever; those junior high school hours. Lol
I also think they did a really good job of weathering the Great Repression by cutting portions and prices and rolling out that $4 menu and happy hour. Was looking at a menu from the early 90s and prices really haven't gone up all that much.
I generally get the triple with mustard, ketchup, and pickle with fries, chili, and shake; for which there's been this awesome coupon mailer out there.
Breakfast's underrated and those dollar breakfast tacos are awesome. One of the few remaining places that'll refill your coffee without slapping you for another five bucks everytime.
This one's better than the others. I can't explain it other than just to say it. It's just better. I won't do the closest one to my house because it's right at the bottom of the list along with the Wildwood one; that one's gross. Winter Park's not much better either (I've had some awful experiences there) but it's the closest one we'll sometimes do. Altamonte's okay. Sanford's okay. Palm Coast's okay. Daytona's okay. Both UCF locations are okay. Lake City's okay...but this one, this one always better. It's better, it's busier. People seem to Love it. And don't mind those other reviews. Everything in the Deltona/Orange City area gets bad reviews from yelpers with a handful of friends and one or two reviews, you should take them with a grain of salt.
And with family nearby, we thankfully end up here often enough, and I couldn't be happier.
RIP taco salad - jyea I know, it's not the same. RIP Philly steak burger. Mnm RIP pepper sauce.
Also have to thank them for peaking my interest in marketing. I'll never forget when you ordered the platter special (used to be able to pick any two sides for $1.79), with two cups of chili's, they'd bring you out a bowl; except that bowl usually amounted to no more than a...
Read moreOh boy how times have changed, and it's no different at Steak N Shake! Upon arrival and entrance into the establishment, my guest and I were curtly greeted by an older lady that stated "we don't seat or serve you anymore, go to the kiosk behind you!" While trying to navigate our way through ordering on the kiosk, an older couple came in. The same 'lady', then in a much more gentle tone, told them the same thing...and then added in that "if people would hurry up with ordering...", which really incensed me. I wanted to ask her, "Your real purpose here is WHAT?", but I didn't and I kept any snarkiness to myself. After we finished ordering, we then seated ourselves and waited for our number to be called. Once, after quite a wait (10+ minutes), our number was called and I retrieved our order from the counter and brought it to our table, we said grace and then began to eat. That's when I noticed that items that I had added onto my burger (and paid for additionally) weren't there. My guest then took my order to the counter, along with the receipt for proof of purchase. The order was corrected and with, yet again, a nasty demeanor, the older 'lady' then began to wander around the restaurant looking for whomever didn't have anything in front of them, and asked them if my order was their food. Needless to say, I will NOT EVER 'dine in' at this location ever again. And after my experiences with other Steak N Shake locations in the area, I probably will remove them from any future dining considerations. The services have left much to be desired and the food was barely warm once it was received (the cheese on my burger wasn't even melted). Save yourself time, money, energy, and effort and avoid this...
Read moreThis one of worst customer service I have had. When walk in at least 7 tables cluttered with dishes waiting to be bused. They sit us and wait at least 15 minutes before ask for waitress that is serving our table. Waitress cleaning table next to us responds will send her over. Host/waitress that seated us came over after few minutes said not your waitress, he is on register but she will take our drink orders. She takes drink order come back to table spills some of my drink on table and leaves for me to clean up. After being there 30 minutes waiter comes to take order. My wife and son still not got shake ordered from lady taking drink order. We notice a lot of food waiting to be served but not being brought sent to table. Our food sat waiting to be served for 10 minutes guess what not hot or edible. Waiter said can come up and check out will take care of it. Wife goes to pay he takes off my order but nothing else. My son was able to eat his sandwich as he was hungry, wife ate only half of her cheeseburger yet only 1 meal taken off. One of waitresses was sitting and talking to table of people she knew for over 15 minutes while line at door and tables still stuff on them waiting to be cleared. Table next to us there over 30 minutes and only had drinks. Would not recommend this Steak n Shake and won’t go back...
