We have lived in Fleming Island for about two and a half years and have seen Arons when driving past and have wanted to try it. A few months back we finally stopped and went in, but sadly they were having staffing issues and told us up front we would have a lengthy wait, so we thanked them and left. We finally made it back for dinner tonight and decided to have pizza and order some pasta and garlic knots as well. Garlic knots came out first and were piping hot. They were sitting in an oil and garlic slurry that wasn't bad, but it should be butter, not oil. The knots were fresh, hot, and tasty. They were pretty heavy and dense, but good. 8/10 The salad for the lasagna entree came out second. Pretty plain with just lettuce, a couple of very thin slices of tomato, and some shredded cheese (more on the cheese in a minute). The ranch dressing was nice, rich, and thick, but overall a pretty sad looking salad. 5/10 The next item out of the kitchen was the "lasagna". Yes, I use quotes because I am not sure what it was, but it was certainly not lasagna. It was two layers of plain noodles on the bottom with nothing between them, then a layer of finely ground meat, no cheese, no sauce, no flavor, and finally 2 more layers of noodles on top, again with nothing between the layers. The only sauce and cheese in this concoction was poured around this mound of hamburger and noodles in the cold bowl it was served in and it was topped by some of the same cheese topping from the salad. 4/10 A short while later the garlic bread for the entree came out, I didn't try it, I had enough carbs from the pasta noodles, knots, and pizza that would be coming out Finally, the pizza arrived. I could tell from first site it was not going to be great. There were ample meat toppings (it was the meat specialty pizza), and it had the same cheese topping as the salad and pasta. It was very hot and the crust was nice and crispy. Sadly, that is the end of good things to say about the pizza. As someone who grew up in the Midwest (central Indiana) this is what I would expect from a local diner in a farm town in Indiana. It had no flavor at all. Think of the last frozen pizza you bought, this was almost, but not quite, that good. 5/10 About that cheese topping, I should use quotes for that as well, because not sure what it was, maybe it was fat free cheese or maybe it was vegan cheese, or maybe it was some other kind of fake cheese, but it was unlike anything I have ever seen called cheese and it was certainly not a quality mozzarella. Even though the pasta dish and the pizza were piping hot, the cheese simply did not melt and get gooey, and it had no pull/stretch at all. 1/10
Some final thoughts: If your aunt Gertrude who has never left Iowa would have made the pizza and lasagna, it would almost certainly be more authentically Italian and have more flavor Why did every menu item dish come out separate? Why can Stouffers frozen at least grasp the concept of a layered lasagna with meat and cheese and sauce throughout but Arons serves a hamburger noodle sandwich covered in tomato sauce with fake cheese on top and thinks that is lasagna? If you live in Crawfordsville, IN and have never ventured more than 25 miles away from home, maybe this would pass as pizza or lasagna, but what we had tonight was better suited to a box in your local grocery store freezer case, it was simply unacceptable as pizzeria menu items
Overall, I would have to give the meal experience tonight 5/10. This food was barely edible, certainly not acceptable for a $30 pizza or an $18 lasagna. I ate 1 slice and a small sample of the pasta as did my wife and we brought the rest home. I did try to nibble on the pizza later this evening at home and my wife tried to fix up the lasagna and eat some of it, but we ended up tossing this food in the trash. There is simply no excuse for a restaurant to be serving this type of food, and even less so at these elevated menu prices. This is not a place I enjoyed, not a place I would return to, nor a place I...
Read moreI have never been treated so badly by a business owner in my entire life. First of all let me say that i am a long time customer of Aron's Pizza, back to the opening week. This place was a favorite spot for my son and I after gymnastics practices on Saturday afternoons. We always have loved the food and enjoyed Aron's sister Demet so much. We even gave Demet a present when she married. Fast forward to today. I called in a to go order for my son to pick up on the way home from work out. He has a friend in town visiting and we were excited to have him try our favorite pizza. I asked the order taker for the total and she gave me the amount (I heard Aron in the back ground helping her). I said that the total didn't seem correct based on the coupon on the website. She refigured the number when I told her about the coupon I was looking at on-line. I then transferred money to my son's debit card so he could pay when he arrived. He went to get the order and called me because he didn't have enough money to pay. He said he had paid with his friends money. I told him the amount wasn't what was quoted to me. He said he would go back in to ask. Aron proceeded to get angry that my son questioned him and went through the receipts and threw mine at my son and said "show your mom that". My son went out side and called me again to tell me how rude he was. I called the store immediately and Aron proceeded to talk over me and would not listen to the fact that I had received a quote based on the internet coupon. He said that is required to bring a printed copy of the coupon in when picking up order. I tried to explain that I had called and no one told me he needed the printed coupon nor did they tell my son he could use his phone for the coupon. I asked why I wasn't told that when i specifically discussed the coupon when ordering. Very rudely Aron said "I can't read minds so you have to pay what was charged". Second, the prices on the internet were also lower than what was charged on my receipt...I get it he didn't update his new prices on the internet, however that is no reason to be a rude person. Finally, after all this happened my son's friend told us a story where he stop in to apply for a delivery job based on a sign advertising a position in the window of the restaurant. Aron asked him is age, the high school student told him his age and Aron said "if your not 18 get out of my store". This is really too bad and no way to treat someone. I will never be back and he lost a great customer. Maybe some basic training in common curtesy would help this...
Read moreAron's used to be one of my favorite pizza restaurants, but the last time I visited on Friday 3/3, I was very disappointed!!! To begin with, I drove all the way there from San Marco and drove right past it the first time because their sign was very dimly lit (if not burned out). One of my party ordered a slice of the deluxe pizza which he was unable to eat because he said it was "way too salty", another member of my party was an senior citizen who explained to the server that she only wanted one slice there and the rest boxed up to take home,. She was brought the pizza and a box and when she tried to transfer the remaining pizza to the box, the cheese and toppings all slid off the crust creating a gooey mess!! I had the Italian sausage and peppers parmesan plate. To begin with, the house salad with the crisp iceberg lettuce was what I wanted and the thousand island dressing was good even though the other members of my party joked about it being sparce with it's one tiny slice of tomato. The garlic bread was tasty as well although the serving size was small. As for the Italian sausage and peppers. The plate consisted of a huge plate of spaghetti covered in cheese. I actually began to wonder if they had forgotten the sausage until I discovered the sparcely spaced sliced sausage around the rim of the plate hidden by the cheese. Taste wise it was good, but the minimal sausage in it was a letdown since that is what I had been looking forward to. I realize that the costs of ingredients have gone up and that Aron's menu prices have not changed much (if any) in the last couple of years, but I would have gladly paid more to have more sausage than to have themhide the lack of it under mounds of pasta and cheese. With all the pizza restaurant choices available these days, Aron's will have need to bring back the quality they once had before I will consider going back. BTW, the servers were great. It was the "chef" that could use...
