Chip's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Orange

I've been looking for a good breakfast place that's not terribly expensive and fairly consistent in quality. Today my boyfriend and I decided to try Chips. It was disappointing. I got Eggs Benedict with a side of pancakes, boyfriend got the apple caramel pancake special, we both got orange juice and coffee. My Eggs Benedict were undercooked with a lot of really runny white, the hollandaise sauce was pretty bland, the ham was good, and English muffin was okay. The pancakes that I got were a short stack, a decent size,good texture but they tasted like onion. I think they had been cooked on a grill that had just had onion cooked on it and they didn't clean it off. I couldn't take more than two bites. I was super grossed out as the waitress came by to clear my egg plate and my boyfriend's plate, I told her to just take the pancakes too, and even though I had only eaten two bites of them. She didn't ask if they were okay and I didn't tell her cuz honestly I didn't want replacements because I was so grossed out. My boyfriend's apple caramel pancakes didn't have very much apple in them but had a decent amount on top and very few caramel chips. He also didn't receive any butter so he couldn't butter his pancakes, which would have been fine if they had had enough apple in them, but is disappointing in a situation where they don't have very much apple flavor and the topping is gone after you eat the top pancake. As for the other stuff, the orange juice was really good, but expensive, $3.50 for a glass of orange juice seems high, the coffee was overcooked and tasted burned and bitter. Also, nothing to do with the staff but the chairs are wildly uncomfortable. We were pretty glad to be out of there as soon as humanly possible. And there was something wrong with their credit card machine. The waitress that we had scanned my card but it kept asking her for my pin. So even though our check said we had to pay our server we had to go up and pay at the computer by the hostess stand, which isn't the end of the world but they should really fix that setting or change what it says on the check, it's just confusing.

If there was a little bit more care and attention to detail. Chips could have been pretty good. If the apple pancakes had had more apple and caramel chips actually in the pancake, if my pancakes hadn't come tasting like onion, and if the holidays had been a little better we would be back frequently, because I can forgive a little runny white and a poached egg on an Eggs Benedict. It's really hard to get the timing perfect, and we would insist on sitting in a booth. However, with all of these disappointing things added up, I want my $45 and my 35...

My wife and I were looking for a decent place to have breakfast so we decided to stop in this restaurant called chips we never been there before we wanted to try it out it was our worst experience ever in the Orange Connecticut restaurant this chips restaurant had dust hanging from the ceiling the vents look like they were never cleaned since the business opened and the floor was dirty and my food looked like dog food our dogs used to get better food than that it was terrible my wife’s English muffins had to get sent back twice the second time they were still raw they weren’t even toasted the second time my wife received them back they still weren’t toasted and they were molded they had mold on them The waitress tried to tell my wife it was avocados from someone else’s food my wife’s explain to her that it’s not avocado that is embedded into the muffins the raw muffins they were molded and the waitress asked my wife if she was still going to eat them my wife said I don’t want them they’re not even toasted it took over a half hour for us to Receive our food and our food was so cold from sitting back there on the counter I was extremely upset that I was served food like this for my wife and I and to top it off she gave us one little tiny tiny quarter ounce cup of butter for both of our toast mind you one for both of us The couple that came in after us had two plates with three butters on each dish but us had One little teaspoon of butter for the both of us that we had to share and the waitress was very unhelpful about it she expected us to eat the food the only thing that she said was she was very busy that’s why the food was left back there so long that’s what she admitted to us we are paying customers we want to be served hot food not very very cold food and the home fries we’re not really home fries it look like a potato that was just cut in half with the skins left on it and they were old you could tell the potatoes were very old would not recommend this...

Absolutely terrible experience. I had been coming here for years! After moving out of state I would rave about Chips and how no other breakfast restaurant compares. I was visiting family in CT and decided to bring my husband to see a childhood memory. Well we arrived around 9 am on a Sunday and there wasn't a line which is rare and a great start. We were seated... it took over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged. Server was short, not personable and was throwing our items at us. THROWING. I kept having to say to everyone at the table "I promise it is not always like this." But I have a feeling that it is starting to be that way. After about 50 minutes from the moment we sat down, finally ordered, caught our food with the supplied baseball gloves (server has an arm) and ate we already had the bill on our table... Fine not a big deal. Well apparently it was to the server who came back and ripped the check off the table and said "I will just take care of this can I have your card." The check is suppose to be paid for at the front desk prior to leaving. WELL! Seems she never followed through with charging our card until TODAY! We were there on June 9th. I made multiple calls to have this fixed. When you do not see a charge on your statement you make a courtesy call to have that fixed. No care was shown and after 4 attempts I let it be because I will NOT beg for a business to take my money. You should value your customers business. I didn't want to review because I know what they are capable of and how good the food is and how this possibly could've been a fluke but when I woke up and saw a charge on my card a month later well that didn't sit well. especially with how atrocious the...
