The rave reviews forced me to stop into Foodies Cafe. Nearly every review gave it 5 stars so I’d been excited to try it but never really had that opportunity since Parramore is out of the way. Last week I was near Creative Village and figured now was as good a time as any to see what the fuss with Foodies was about.
I ate at Foodies twice, just to make sure I had enough of a sample size to accurately judge it. On day one, I ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was absolutely mouth-watering. The candied bacon was a nice touch (although it was a tad bit spicy) and complemented the cheese well. I can tell this sandwich was homemade and did not contain microwaved egg. This was made from scratch.
The next day I got the chicken and waffles. Disclaimer: I don’t really like chicken and waffles, but reviews let me to believe it is Foodies’ signature dish. So I got it, and liked it for the most part. It was up there with some of the best I’d ever had. The syrup, like everyone else will attest to, is really good. It’s basically melted butter with sugar as opposed to a traditional maple, but nonetheless, it suited the meal perfectly.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the staff, especially the young lady at the front. She was incredibly friendly and welcoming, engaging me in conversation and finding out how I enjoyed my meal. The chef also personally asked me if it was okay that my meal would take 8 minutes to cook, because I looked pressed for time. I was blown away by the southern hospitality and customer service.
It goes without saying I will be back! I’m interested in trying everything on this menu. Hopefully Foodies continues to stay in business and reviews...
Read moreI wish I could have fallen in love with this place, but I just couldn’t. I am a huge fan of mom & pop spots and supporting local businesses, but unfortunately the wait time is just not worth the hype. My party of 3 came in and placed our order for dine in and sat down. A party of 4 came in after us and placed their order to go, and received their food first 45 minutes later. 20 minutes after they had left, we finally received our food in to go containers with plastic forks/spoons/knives. That did not leave a welcoming impression at all. We waited over an hour for our food so we just had to open the boxes to dig in right there since dine in was the intention. The croissant on the menu was not available, as the soft spoken guy behind the counter said “oh we should have taken that off the menu” so my sister asked for the bacon and eggs instead. My order was the philly with fries and I my taste buds think the sandwich was rather blah. The fries were well seasoned though. I had a bite of my baby’s omelette no mushrooms, and it too was lacking flavor. I really hoped the food made up for the long wait & the fact that even though we came and placed our order first but received our food last, but it truly did not. There was only one person in the back, and a kind person in the front. I wish the best for this little cafe and hope it continues to have support from the regulars. Hopefully they can grow their business...
Read moreI never got my food. We sat there and waited for an hour and 40 minutes. At that point, I asked when we could expect our food to which the employee responded “I have no idea.” At that point I demanded a refund and left. We ordered chicken and waffles which shouldn’t have taken over 15 minutes to prepare, but it appears that they didn’t even start cooking anything until about 45 minutes after we had sat down. There were about 3 tables ahead of us and no one in the restaurant had food for at least an hour and fifteen minutes. Furthermore, they make you pay up front so there’s no incentive for them to provide good service. All signs indicated that they could care less about preparing our food with any sense of urgency. And again, we never received our food but the other patrons were served their food in styrofoam containers, which is less than presentable. Overall, we we were severely disappointed and won’t be going back. I suggest not wasting your time and money.
P.S. The scene depicted is our food-less table. And the “strawberry ginger” smoothie was disgusting and...
