I wanted to love this place so much. I've gone 4 times now. Each time I've gone I've had to weigh the pros with the cons. This last visit, however, the cons were more than the pros. Plus, the cons are pretty consistent. Normally the cons would make me never return, but the food at times can taste so amazing.
So here's the breakdown...
The pros are the food can be the best you've ever had, but it's inconsistent. This is the only reason that I kept coming back. The people are friendly and bring your order to your car, which is nice.
Here are the cons that really bother me besides the taste:
Price: The amount you're quoted is never the amount you're charged. At 1st I dismissed it because the person at the window would say an amount that was normally $1 more than what the paper they have posted or the website says. However, the amount on the receipt would be the correct amount usually. And if it's more than they said, it's usually $1 or less of a difference. This would bother me a lot more, but the things that were less than they quoted usually balanced out the things that were more. Then there was something that was $4 more than I was told, but I was already gone when I noticed and they were closed anyway. That was my 3rd visit and it would've been my last if the meat wasn't so amazing like the 1st visit.
Taste: I've already mentioned that it's hit or miss. Even on the miss it's still okay. However, when your taste buds have had a new experience you've never had, it's disappointing when it's not the same. But, this applies to the meats I've tried. The sides have been okay and sometimes bland. I haven't had an extraordinary experience with the sides.
What's included: One day I'm told a side is included and another day it's not. The inconsistencies are what bring down the customer service aspect for me. They are friendly, but giving accurate information that is consistent is part of the service. Then when I'm told there is no side included, I didn't get the bread I was told was.
What is now my final visit was a day when the cons were still present and the food was not really that great. I left with no pros to offset the cons.
Perhaps it's for the best. The cons were really bothering me, but the taste of the meat sometimes had...
Read moreThe Last True Jerk Barbecue Artist
Listen carefully: this is not just food—this is a time machine, powered by fire and tradition. You don’t stumble across barbecue like this anymore. What this man is doing isn’t cooking—it’s a lost art. It’s what jerk barbecue used to taste like before shortcuts and compromises ruined the game.
Here’s the deal: he doesn’t boil his meat into bland oblivion. He doesn’t bake it in an oven like some factory-line product. No, this man does it the right way—the only way that matters. Real fire. Real smoke. Real time. You can taste the hours he spends letting the flames break down the meat, coaxing out every ounce of flavor until it falls apart with tender, smoky perfection. It’s like each bite is whispering, “This is how your grandparents ate jerk barbecue.”
Mac & Cheese Madness
Oh, and the mac and cheese? Forget what you thought you knew about this side dish. This isn’t the boxed stuff, and it’s not trying to “play it safe.” It’s bold, creamy, buttery, and layered with a kind of love that makes you want to cry into your fork. It’s the kind of mac and cheese that doesn’t just pair with the barbecue—it elevates it.
