Having visited hundreds of different restaurants across Orlando for years, I can easily say Mamak is easily one of the best! DO NOT pass up the opportunity to come here because you will not be disappointed!!! I’ve been to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and several other countries across SE Asia, and I think Mamak does an awesome job at replicating the cuisine you find in those countries. Their food is most specifically Singaporean, Malaysian, and Indonesian - and if you’ve never had this food before, you’re in for a treat! It’s easily some of the best and most flavorful cuisine in all of Asia.
Mamak offers an awesome number of tapas (small plates) that you can share amongst family and friends you go to dinner with. The best thing about it is it’s FAST! If you order just a bunch of tapas, even on a busy day, you will wait almost no time at all before your first dishes come out. So if you’re hungry, this is the perfect place to eat at as you’re not going to be waiting like at other places! NOTE: if you order larger dishes they tend to take a bit longer, so just keep that in mind!
However, do you even need to order the main dishes? Not really! Out of the many times I’ve come to Mamak, I’ve only ever gotten mains twice. Every other time I’ve gotten a few different tapas and I’ve left very satisfied. You NEED to try their roti canai - this is without question. If you could only get one thing from their menu, this would be it. It’s a crispy flatbread that you pull apart warm and dip into one of the best sauces I’ve ever had. You could use this sauce for literally everything and I wish I knew how to make it.
Here’s all the other tapas I recommend: wonton with hot sauce, ageta shokushu, coconut kari mamak wings, satay chicken lettuce wraps, beef bulgogi skewers, pork belly Asian bao, cream cheese rangoons, golden wontons, and pasembur salad. I’ve gotten nearly every tapas on the menu but these are my favorites. You could get any combination of these and you’d be in for a real treat.
As for mains, pad Thai, hokkien char mee, Indian mee goreng, char kway teow, and nasi goreng Indonesia are all great options. But like I said, you really don’t even need to order the bigger plates because it’s better to try a larger variety of smaller things because you can then try a lot more different foods. I also wouldn’t even recommend dessert - the tapas outweigh the desert a lot! You should have a nice, big meal sharing lots of tapas with everyone, then walk next door to Sampaguita to try out unique Filipino ice cream. That sounds like the perfect night out in this area to me.
All in all, I’ve never had any issue with service here at Mamak. All waiters/waitresses have been fast, friendly and helpful, food has always come out perfect, prices aren’t too expensive (though certainly not cheap, so be aware), and the only real complaint is it can get a bit loud when it’s busier. To me, I don’t even care because I’m enjoying my food too much! 🤣
I love Mamak! This place will forever be one of my favorite restaurants in Orlando. I will continue to come back because I love...
Read moreThis was honestly a very disappointing place to visit. We had high hopes looking at the menu but everything sucked about this place. Starting with the food, nothing had any flavor or seasoning. Everything tasted like absolutely nothing and bland and disgusting. My best friend also has celiacs and when asking about items on the menu the only answer the staff could give us was “I dont know”. We asked three different people the same question, “what makes the fries not gluten free”, a basic and simple question and each person just said yeah i don’t know. No one said oh lemme ask my manager or a cook or anything they just stood there and said i don’t know and ran off. The service was trash. We sat at the bar hoping to get a drink while waiting for our table and the entire staff ignored us for 20 minutes until we asked if we could get service at the bar. The guy behind the bar said omg i didn’t see you guys there I got distracted making a drink. Mind you he was making the drink in front of us literally the entire time. We were right in front of the drink week and no one else was at this bar. There were also probably 12 tables sat in this restaurant for the amount of staff they had on that is literally nothing. Then the host walked us to a dirty table with 3 chairs for a party of 4. Like that’s nothing I just find it weird that they didn’t clean the area and put the chair there before walking us over there. The host was a very personable and friendly girl with cute passion twist. Our server Fernanda was trash. She kept running away from the table, couldn’t answer any dietary questions, and our food came out before the drinks did which we ordered 20 minutes prior to ordering our food. We had to keep flagging her down to get things bc she refused to come check on us. I used to be a server and I know how hard it can be sometimes but she was purposely ignoring us. Checking on all the tables around us but avoiding us when we were waiting 45 min in a glass of wine and couldn’t get our water refilled or more napkins. In addition to all of this, all my friends and I have food poisoning from this food that’s not even worth it. I would rather be shot than ever come here again. I hate literally everything about this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone unless i really hated them. I would recommended they educate their staff and retrain them on customer service, expectations, and standards. I had better service at that mega McDonalds in Orlando than this place which says a lot. I felt like I was getting pranked while sitting in this restaurant honestly. I’m really not one to complain but this place...
Read moreOverall, not impressive. Let me start by saying as a Singaporean and Malaysian I would like to share the truth on the flavors for you to make your own decision.
I visited the restaurant with my parents. Needless to say, all three of us a very familiar with the origin and taste of The dishes we ordered. We ordered a total of 9 dishes simply to explore the quality and flavor of the dishes. We were very disappointed.
The Roti was much harder in texture than what the original Roti should be. The curry sauce was disgustingly sweet and thick. Unlike the real curry sauce, made out of coconut milk, much more flavorful, this restaurant may have thickened the curry sauce with cornstarch and add sugar or honey to it. The roast duck was horribly done. If you want to know what Roast duck tastes like, do go to a regular Chinese restaurant such as Tasty Wok, and try them. Mamak presented a roast duck that looks more likes stew duck. The flavor lacks Chinese five spice flavor. The color does not come close to being roast duck. We ordered one of their famous curry laksa. It did not taste like Curry laksa. I'm not sure if the owners have ever tasted laksa. Laksa is a sour fish broth noodle soup. The consistency of their Curry laksa is extremely thick compared to the original laksa which is much more brothy and sour. Their famous fried noodle chow fun is lacking many spices to include garlic. Hong Kong wonton noodle soup is extremely starchy. The noodle soup lacks flavor, while their noodles have too much ammonia taste to it. if you want to try real wonton soup, try at different restaurants that are authentic Hong Kong or Cantonese style. Mamak does not Even come close.
There are several more dishes that we have tried and unfortunately we were not pleased. Maybe because we know what the original flavor of each dish should be. Because of this, I find Mamak restaurant to be extremely pricey compared to the lack of flavor, quality, and small portions of food for each dish. By the way, the dishes are much more like Tapas style. Very small portion for the prices charged.
In summary, I will not return to this restaurant nor will I recommend to my dear friends and family.. you may always reach out to me if you need...
