The Banh Mi were good, though i didn't love the texture of the chicken being so soft. The bread was great. I picked up 6 pastries for my kids and I while in our hotel and one chocolate cake slice. The pastries were delicious, the apple custard pastry in particular was amazing.
Why 2 stars then you ask? It came to my daughter asking for the chocolate cake (not sure of the actual name). I went to buy it, after spending 6 dollars on coffee, 15 on pastries, 18 on sandwiches, and asked for the cake. The price on the sign was 5.50 and the young lady rang me up for 6 dollars. .50 cents is nothing, the money doesn't matter, but I asked her why it wasn't 5.50 as the price was listed. She said simply, "it's six dollars.". I said they should probably change the price on the sign then and she removed the sign, looked at it, then put it away leaving the food without a price sign. I paid my six dollars and walked away.
I didn't want to be a Chad and demand to see a manager but I did get more annoyed over time and as we were driving away I asked my wife to go back in and see if they had replaced the price tag. She went inside, saw it was still unmarked, asked someone what the price was, they said, 5.50, 5.67 with tax. To know the tax rate off the top of his head means to me it was the correct price.
Why the issue? I figure it was either ignorance then embarrassment about being wrong (hopefully). The other facts are I'm white in a predominantly Asian restaurant, or i was wearing an Army mask because I work for the Army and maybe she doesn't view the service well. I'm not obese but compared to many of the clientele I could lose a few pounds. I cannot assume what was in her head but the above are the facts. She was curt and between the flat stare and eye roll as I spoke to her and her refusal to change the total when I asked politely about the price means there was some underlying issue.
The food here is 4 or 5 stars, depending on what you get. The service made me upset enough to spend my time to write this when I HATE writing bad reviews - so 2 stars with caveats.
I added a picture of the young lady. She's masked so I feel alright with her public anonymity, but maybe management may consider reinforcing...
Read moreWe have been anxiously awaiting Paris Banh Mi's opening since it was announced last year, and finally it's here!
We stopped in during lunch time on a Saturday, and were pleasantly surprised to see that, while there were several people there, it didn't seem overly packed or stressfully-busy.
First off, the space- My goodness does it feel HUGE inside! Not negatively so, but more it feels comfortably spacious. You are immediately greeted by a long row of goods from the bakery, and gracious me do they look amazing. Making your way past the baked goods, you get to the dessert display cases, filled with delicious-looking sweets. We resisted this time, knowing that we will be back often, and instead opted to go straight to the counter to order some banh mi and drinks. Spread around the front windows and far side wall are a perfect amount of tables and chairs, enough to hold quite a few people without being intrusively in-the-way.
The menu- As of the writing of this review, they offer several versions of what essentially amount to a classic banh mi, and SO MANY drink options . We opted to try a classic Pate Jambon and a Croissant Special banh mi, with a Paris By Night Latte and a Thai Tea to drink. Ordering was super quick and easy, with the staff being wonderfully helpful with acknowledging that this was our first time there.
The food- OMG just yes. The baguette that the Pate Jambon was served on was amazingly crusty and delicious, and the croissant was fantastically buttery without being overwhelmingly so. The meats and sauces were all quite good, but what stood out to me were the pickled veggies.... The pickles and daikon were quite wonderful, but those cucumber slices... I often find that cucumber ribbons/Spears/whatever-other-form quickly get watery and mushy, and thus a little detracting.. These cucumbers, though, were awesome! They taste as though they were a bit salted prior to pickling, to take some of that water out while keeping the crunchy goodness. Just yes.
We are so excited to go back, and I foresee Paris Banh Mi becoming a staple in our...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite spots to go for a good Banh Mi. Unfortunately, I had an experience my last visit that will likely result in me never returning. I ordered 6 sandwiches some for myself and a few for my neighbors. Unfortunately when I bit into the first sandwich there was this repulsive taste almost chemical. I thought it might of been just me so I asked my friend to taste it, he refused and waited until he received his sandwich. At that point he tasted his and immediately had the same response as me. This is when I knew something was off as we both eat here often. I approached what appeared to be one of the owners and told him that something tasted wrong with the sandwiches. I asked him if he could take a look at the pickled veggies used. After looking at them he went back and forth between telling us they were good and then hesitantly mentioning there may be an issue with the radishes. At this point we are pulling the veggies off our sandwich to make it edible. He then ask us if he would like him to fix it. We happily thanked him and asked if he could switch out the veggies with a fresh batch. We were then notified this was not possible because there was only one batch which was concerning. He then proceeded to remove all the veggies from the sandwich and returned them with 50% of what makes a banh mi missing. After this poor service and half hearted attempt to amend a mistake as critical as serving spoiled food, we left disappointed and somewhat disgusted. While the sandwiches are typically good with freshly baked bread here, there are incredible alternative options just next door. I do not think I will ever feel comfortable giving this establishment my business again. Would highly recommend taking a look at the stores near by with fresher quality...
