The Gnarly Cuban — Restaurant in Orlando

The food was outstanding. We had a pork bowl, a steak bowl, papá rellena, flan, and cafecito. Unfortunately I forgot the cafecito at the window. The pork had such tenderness and depth of flavor. My son was mmmmmmmm all the way home and I had a bite and it hit me in two waves. Soooo good! The ropa vieja was delicious too and very juicy and none of the meat had weird fat or anything like that. It was great quality and taste. You can taste the slow cooked and well seasoned process. The flans were so creamy, deliciously balanced milk and egg ratio! The caramel on the bottom was just right! My son ate two in a row. The papa rellena was crunchy and moist and so delicious with great flavor. I highly recommend the place.

The only issue we had was the parking lot was full of screws and I had to park down further by another shop. Next time I will order ahead and park away from the construction so I don’t get...

I wanted to have the Gnarly Cuban cater my baby shower because I LOVE their empanadas and because they have the vegan jackfruit ropa vieja option. Unfortunately they had a conflicting event and couldn’t cook for us, but imagine my DELIGHT when they told me I could order my empanadas and pastelitos frozen ahead of time, and fry them up the day of (instructions included)! They even worked with my schedule to deliver to my job, saving me extra time. Everything was packed carefully and clearly labeled, which made cooking them a breeze. The jackfruit empanadas are incredible; if I didn’t know they were vegan before I tried them, I’d never guess. Also, don’t sleep on the beef pastelitos…the balance of sweet and savory along with the light pastry is divine. Was just fortunate enough to be at a party catered by Gnarly Cuban and I have 3 words to describe the experience:

"Oh. My. God." The food was absolutely unreal, The Papas Rellenas were so fantastic I nearly ate my body weight in them, and while I personally don't like pickles or mustard, all of the party guests raved about the titular Gnarly Cuban empanada (from what I understand it is a Cuban Sandwich in an empanada and everyone was raving about them!)

Beyond that, the rice, the meat, the everything was perfect. It truly was such an excellent day that was made even better by the wonderful food and set up by Gnarly Cuban. I had tried them before at various food truck bazaars and outdoor events in town but this truly was an experience and a half. And since it was my nephew's birthday party, I got to take...
