Today I went to Zhang’s Garden for the first time. I ordered my food on GrubHub and paid and then proceeded to pick it up. Upon arrival, I let the young lady at the front know what I had ordered and that I made an online purchase. She confirmed that the bag was indeed my food, looked at the receipt and demanded I pay. I let her know that I had already paid. She then said to me “$48.37”. I let her know once more that I had paid already and took my phone out to show the receipt that I’d been e-mailed. She refused to look at it and began yelling and berating me, saying “$48.37! $48.37!”. There was no explanation just the assumption of dishonesty on my part. It wasn’t until another employee from the back asked if I had placed the order with GrubHub and I answered “yes”, then I received my food. Absolutely no apology or mention of recompense or remorse. I’m a quite visibly disabled woman with deformities due to chronic illness. This whole debacle was embarrassing to say the least. I was treated with exceptional disrespect without the courtesy of so much as an apology. The woman didn’t even extend me the decency of giving the receipt a second glance, which you can clearly see in the image attached, that it says “prepaid, DO NOT CHARGE”. I decided not to make a scene and called back to inform the manager what had happened and they then apologized. I think the biggest atrocity that took place was the fact that I suffered through that humiliation for dry rubbery rice and overcooked chicken. Absolutely uncouth behavior and poor service for mediocre...
Read moreOrdered 3 veggie Mai Fun & 1 Sweet-n-Sour chicken (chx) combo w/ shrimp fried rice. I wondered why the chx was stacked 2nd from bottom out the 4 containers and soon found out. The chx were burnt and there were a total of 4 shrimp in the rice. Being the chx was for my children - I was not happy to say the least. The look on the lady's face when picking up my food didn't help either. I should have listened to my instincts and opened each individual meal before leaving the restaurant. Dining there was a convenience thing due the cafeteria being closed at the VA during a family member's ER visit. As they say "first time shame on me..." The lack of integrity, carelessness, & laziness associated with first plating burnt food and THEN trying to hide that fact in between the other dishes is a huge turn off for me. Never again. To those regulars who'd say this is a one off, I'd say it was definitlety "off." If you truly care about what you do this shouldn't happen - don't serve food you know isn't ride in hopes that it makes out the door and into someone's home and bank on them being to inconvenienced to bring it back. That's B.S. How'd you like it if someone paid you with counterfeit money? If your answer is know then stop serving BS food.
BTW PSA: To all restauranteurs and cashiers - black folks know that "look" of resentment mostly displayed by the culturally biased, bigots, and racists. We know it...
Read moreNot sure why I keep returning to this place. The convenience I guess clouds my judgement every time. I don’t really order from here as I normally order elsewhere, But the close proximity and my laziness gets the better of me. I ordered house fried rice, Gen Tso’S Chix and egg rolls. Everything was terrible. Let me first start with the rice. Barely any vegetables, absolutely no egg or bean sprouts and the chix and shrimp were most likely boiled in water before adding to the rice. The dish was flavorless and bland and dry. Next was the Gen Tso’s chix. This was a hot soggy mess. Either they have a product problem with the battered chix they use or they just don’t care enough. The sauce was overly sweet with no spice. I feel that they are basically using the sesame chicken sauce and not putting the sesame and calling it Gen Tso’s. Either way its not a home made sauce. The egg rolls were terrible too. I think they need to spend a little more money on better product because what they are using is not cutting it. They should probably visit some of the better Chinese take out on Mills to get a better idea of what decent Chinese take out...
