I'm doing a bunch of reviews of the local culinary scene and I always have to go back to a place that hits a home run the first time to make sure it is consistent. What I've figured out is this... If you are there for basic breakfast (nothing sauce/gravy related) you should be very satisfied. The skirt steak is seasoned, it is cooked the way you ask and is tasty. Eggs, Waffles, Pancakes, are very good. The problem comes in when you want potatoes, sauces, gravy, or biscuits. They use what I can only image are frozen potatoes (which is plain lazy as fresh are cheap and abundant all year around). The gravy has to be from a can it is more like condensed soup than gravy. This is a #NEVER if you are running a restaurant. These are all things that can be made easily, and always taste better. The biscuits I got with my country steak (avoid it is hamburger frozen garbage, I asked the waitress if it was going to be a cube steak/hamburger before I ordered it and she said no, then brought out a cube steak / hamburger patty... ) were terrible biscuits, the gravy was awful and they slopped it onto everything. Gravy should run a bit not stick like drywall paste.
The fresh OJ is good, but honestly this place is pricey for the offering. They need to get it together, and stop being lazy with the food they are cooking... if you are going to cook food COOK it, don't open a can up and warm stuff up I can do that at home myself. When I go out to eat I'm paying for someone to cook for me.
The place has a lot of potential but both times I went I took someone with me. Both times breakfast was 30 bucks. The first time was perfect but I still left with a little sticker shock.. breakfast shouldn't be 30 bucks, but the quality was there so I came back to see if it was consistent. The service was good... but the menu has land mines. For $30 bucks.... there shouldn't...
Read moreWe just attempted to eat at Benny's Place. We were seated within the quoted 15-20 minute wait, which we expected. What we didn't expect was to be greeted by our server almost 10 minutes after being seated. Luckily, we thought enough to order our young daughters' meals right away--or this could've been an even more horrendous experience! I left this review on Yelp:
"Rating one star only because I can't rate zero. I haven't even tasted my meal yet... because it's been about 40 minutes since I ordered and it's still not here!!! We were told "the head cook is out of the country so that's the reason for the delay." WHAT??
Update: We ended up leaving without having our meals because it was still going to be another 10 minutes--even though several groups seated after us already had their meals. We canceled our order and asked for our check. The server came back and I told her we weren't going to pay for meals that weren't even made, so she adjusted the check. When asked by the cashier how we were, we explained this is the only time we've ever been to a restaurant and are walking out without having eaten. Marc asked me if I wanted to talk to the manager, and I responded, "It doesn't even matter since we're never coming back again." The cashier merely shrugged her shoulders and let us walk out angry. Several missed opportunities on their end to turn...
Read moreI usually come here all the time because of the food is great and the servers are great but today I came in and the manager was extremely rude and inconsiderate of me. I am currently pregnant and going through a lot of food aversions. I ordered an omelette that I thought would be ok for me to eat but after receiving my omelette I began to feel I’ll because of my pregnancy and food aversions. I politely asked my server if she could possibly please let me change my order and she tried her hardest to accommodate my needs but the manager was extremely rude and refuse to let me change my order even after knowing I was pregnant and the meal I was asking for was more expensive than the one I previously ordered. He then proceeded to tell me he basically didn’t care about my needs and even mentioned his own wife having a kid instead of empathizing and being considerate of me. I myself have worked at high end breakfast restaurant for years where the food is 5 times more expensive and we still allow exchanges for customers even customers who aren’t pregnant who would like to change their meals. My experience today was extremely unprofessional and rude. If it wasn’t for my server who was extremely nice and patient I would have just walked out. I unfortunately will not be...
