I have eaten at Rosati's in Overland Park for about 15 years. I am also born and raised in Chicago and have enjoyed Italian beef sandwiches and thin crust pizza for over 50 years. I have enjoyed the food from Rosati's for a very long time. Something has changed at the OP location. The love, patience and authenticity that went into the food seems to have not been passed along to the crew very well. This goes back several years and is not pandemic related. The crust just isn't right. It has become too dense and toppings aren't applied out to the edge like they should be on a thin crust. The point is that your thumb should have toppings on it when you grab your piece. There shouldn't be bubbles along the edge of the crust either. Let's move on to the beef sandwich. Italian beef is supposed to simmer in the juice all day. It should attack your taste buds with amazing Italian flavors the second it touches your tongue. It is also supposed to be served wet from the juice to the point that the juice runs down your wrist with every bite. You are supposed to request the sandwich dry if you don't want all the juice. Not the other way around. My beef was so bland tonight that I'm not sure it soaked in juice for any length of time. I ordered a combo and the sausage was like heaven and the beef extremely tender and thin. That part was wonderful. One last problem with the sandwich was that I ordered it with melted mozzarella on top. The cheese is critical because it acts as a lid that holds the sweet peppers in place and keeps the sandwich manageable with all the juice making the bread soft. I paid extra for the cheese on top. Instead I received a plastic cup of melted cheddar cheese. WTH? What am I supposed to do with that and what person really thought that cheddar cheese actually goes with Italian beef?
I will say that I still enjoyed my food tonight and will savor my cold leftover pizza for lunch tomorrow. What is missing is the love, caring and pride that should go into making this food. Eating this food should be an experience that leaves you wanting more until you literally feel like you will explode. And then you can't wait to go back again. That part is getting lost. Please bring it back.
Update 10/28/23
Still my favorite pizza place in KC. Service has improved greatly and their food makes me think of growing up in Chicago. Thank you for providing such amazing food...
Read moreThe pizza is good, the issue is the service, it's TERRIBLE. I had been by there a number of times and had no idea what I was missing. Last year I finally went in there on the lunch hour and got a couple slices. I really liked it so one weekend I decided to order a whole pizza. The pizza was good, it just wasn't what I ordered. It was close but a little annoying considered it's not a cheap pizza. The second time I ordered a whole pizza, I requested no onions and that was ignored. The real issue with the second time was that the person working that night was either in a hurry or ran out of larger boxes so our large pizza was SMASHED into what I assume was a medium box. The third and final time we ordered, it was a Saturday night and they were understandably busy. We had to wait an hour before going to pick it up. They're busy, they can't do anything about that, no big deal. The issue was, when we got there, they had no record of our order (so they said). Then the worker said "Oh, it's in the oven, it'll be 5 mins" ok fine. Wait 5 mins... "Oh, it's almost done, it'll be about 15 mins". Wait, what happened to 5?! Mind you, at least 4 other people either had order issues or lost orders in the same time we were waiting. Long story short, after being lied to 3-4x about how long it would be, FORTY-FIVE minutes later we left with our pizza. On the way out, after FINALLY getting the pizza, my wife asked the kid "Just be honest, did you lose our ticket?" He said "Yeah". Instead of telling us the truth to begin with, we sat there for FORTY-FIVE minutes waiting for our pizza to be cooked, thinking it was almost done. It was almost 2 hours since we placed our initial order. I checked the order receipt which confirmed that they had not put the order into progress until we had gone in to pick it up. I like the pizza but I won't ever go back unless it's to get a slice at lunch time. I think giving them 3 tries to get things right was enough, we'll take our...
Read moreIt honestly doesn't get any better than Rosati's - keep up the good work!!! Whether it's "The Cheef" sandwich with fries, Greek Salad, the "Double Dough Classic Combo" specialty pizza, or the chocolate chip cookies, you won't be sorry, and your taste buds and stomach will thank you!!!
As a major edit to my 5-star review 6 months ago, I will NEVER order from you guys ever again, due to your blatant disrespect and dishonesty! My order was delivered grossly late, they refused to reimburse my card, then no one ever apologized, got lied to about when the delivery driver left to come here, then itemized receipt was ripped off my bag and not given to me! Then, other guy who answered the phone just now said nothing at all when I told him I needed to speak with the manager, which is obviously disrespectful and dishonest! I was forced to hang up and call again, and this time, a girl answered and said she would go get the manager, but she played mind games as well, by just leaving me on hold forever and not coming back to the phone! Everyone has been disrespectful and dishonest, and still no apology or attempts to make this right with me! NEVER...
