After spending time at Johnson Library we were hungry. Where do vegan's go to find food? Certainly not a place called the weiner kitchen. But Google Maps said differently and when it comes to food we are sometimes risk takers. So we took the risk.
Wow!
What an experience. It looks fast food at first but as you become acclimated to the surroundings it becomes clear that this is not a grease joint. Not only was the food awesome but you could tell that the staff cared about what they are doing.
I mentioned this to the man behind the counter while enquiring if he was the manager. He responded that they don't really have levels of authority there. I knew he was holding back on me. I explained that I was pleased with both the food and the service.
He then told me that he was the co-owner with his wife. Yup - I knew something wasn't being said. It was a fantastic experience that I would repeat frequently if we were staying in the area.
Bottom line?
If you want good food with good service this is your place. I'd choose this over the pricey Whole Harvest Kitchen any day of the week. As a vegan I am pleased. Looked like their were numerous meat eaters in the restaurant too. Sign of popularity in mainstream eating if you ask me. If your hungry and in the area I...
Read moreJust visited this establishment for the first time and even told them it was my first time visiting and I had visited because of good Google reviews.
I chose the special of the day. Play with my debit card and included a 15% tip.
Nearly 25 minutes later I watched four other customers come in and receive their food and leave and watch the people at the counter look at me several times although I sat there with no food in front of me.
I finally approached the counter and asked what was the holdup with my food and they acted like they didn't even realize I had ordered anything.
They gave their apologies and started to prepare the food but I insisted on just getting a refund and leaving.
They said that they were sure that I would come back in try them again sometime to which I set a highly doubt it.
They didn't even offer to go ahead and just give me my meal for free for the inconvenience.
I am very disappointed in my experience here and though they say this is not typical, I don't know how you end up dropping the ball especially on a customer that tells you they are visiting because of Google reviews and it is their first time.
I would expect you would go out of your way to delight that customer if nothing else.
This was a waste of my time. I don't recommend Wiener...
Read moreI went to Wiener Kitchen after seeing a lot of buzz on Facebook and Yelp. It’s a creative, artisan-style sausage spot with a butcher shop vibe, selling things like bierocks (both traditional and breakfast) and unique sausages. I’d like to try the jalapeño kielabasa (jalapeño & cheddar pork sausage with spicy honey mustard BBQ sauce, coleslaw, and a steamed bun) and grab some bierocks to bake for brunch next time.
This visit: Chili Cheese Dog (Mom) – Wagyu brisket dog with chorizo black bean chili, cheddar, onions, hot sauce. Too messy; bun turned mushy. Mom really disliked it and didn’t find the chili tasty or fresh. Rating: 1/5 Chorizo Rojo (Mine) – Pork chorizo on a crispy tortilla with cheddar, onion-jalapeño relish, and cilantro aioli. Loved the aioli and tortilla crunch; sausage was just okay. Rating: 4/5
For context, we’re not sausage or brat connoisseurs—our go-to hot dogs are simple and cheap (Sam’s Club sells Nathan’s, which we like; we don’t care for Costco’s version). That said, I went to high school in Nebraska and grew up on Runzas, so seeing bierocks here makes me want to come back just for that nostalgia and creativity. Mom’s a hard pass, but I’d give it another shot....
