We have eaten at China 1 since last spring and enjoyed it very much. Today we called in an order for carry out. The woman on the phone was very short and we just thought they may have been busy. I went to pick up the order and saw a sign in the window that they are applying to be a “drinking establishment” and there is a meeting January 9th before the city council. I went inside and found only two customers at 5:00 pm, which I thought was odd. I went to the counter and saw nobody there. I went to get some sauce and found a woman sitting behind the counter, texting. She looked at me like I was interrupting her. I told her I was here to pick up an order, she looked on the bag on the counter and asked if it was mine. I thought the protocol was for the employee to read the order back to me to confirm it, but she showed the receipt to me and again asked me if it was mine. Okaaay. I asked her about the sign and if they were applying for a liquor license and her response was to look at me blankly and say “I don’t know, the manager put that in the window”. I then asked if they were closing and she just stared at me. At this point I was getting my card out to pay and she didn’t say anything. I gave her the card, she ran it and printed the receipt for me to sign. The copies were stuck together and I tried to push one toward her and she just pulled her copy and turned and went back to the corner to sit down. Treating customers by being rude is inexcusable, whether or not she likes her manager or thinks she may lose her job. I sure hope she is not part of the new management team. I arrived home and found that one of the dishes was wrong, and the steamed dumplings were not completely cooked - they were still doughy. Based on Adrian’s review, and my experience, we will have to find another Chinese restaurant that has its customers’ best...
Read moreI have ordered from China 1 before and decided to do so today because they are around the corner from my house. I went online to find the online menu but it was no longer available. I called the store and was greeted by what I'm assuming was the same short, rude women that the other reviewers encountered. I was unsure of how to order carry out with no online menu available. (Not a good marketing plan!) But, my family gets the same thing every time so I knew what we wanted. What disappointed me the most was when I tried to order vegetable spring rolls. The lady told me that "didn't have them right now" aka no longer on the menu due to a recent menu change. So when I asked if they might be put back on, she again told me that they weren't on the menu anymore and that they had pork egg rolls. I told her I don't eat meat, therefore I was disappointed that they no longer have veggie spring rolls (what Chinese place doesn't have veggie spring rolls?) I asked again if they might put them on and she told me she just works there and that is management. Ok, I understand you "just work there" but that is exactly why I am asking you! If you didn't know you could direct me to the manager...which she didn't even offer. My BF just left to go pick up the food and I'll see how the taste affects my review. However, I won't be ordering again from China 1 because they no longer carry veggie spring rolls. They are a staple every time I eat Chinese. Also, they need an online menu for those wanting to look at the food, prices, and to order online. And for the new management, you need to train your employees on customer...
Read moreI read the reviews and just knew I had to go here. I never really gave it a second thought because of all the other places had higher star ratings. But let me tell you, this is the best to-go or delivery chinese food you're getting in Overland Park. Maybe even farther out. I happen to LOVE the place across the street (ABC), but they're not the same thing AT ALL. So don't try to compare them. I finally gave in and read the reviews and knew this was the place for me. When I lived on the Missouri side, the best chinese food was at a place with a person that some called mean or abrasive, and most of those customers deserved the attitude they received. In ten years I only saw the "mean" side once. So when I saw similar reviews to my favorite midtown spot, I knew I had to go. I personally didn't experience any mean behavior and definitely wasn't treated bad at all. The food was great, was made fast, and the crab rangoons were soooo good. I had those, fried wontons, and the beef lo mein combo with fried rice. While I wouldn't order the fried wontons again (first time trying them honestly), I will only ever eat here when I'm craving beef lo mein (and excited to try some other dishes) and crab rangoons. There's so many places that have good ratings that are absolutely bland trash. If you want flavor, go to this place. I've spent twelve years living blocks away. Don't even know how long they've been there, but that's how many years I've been...
