When I first walked in the atmosphere displayed a rustic Oregon trail feel to it. Featuring many blown up art paintings of early settlers in the area. There was also a heavy native american feel with tapestries on ladders and status of and hand drawn photos of native american men and women. There was some local kc cheif banners hanging and to my understanding the new owners put that up. While i enjoy someone showing home team support it complelty clashed with the decor and felt taccy. Overall though i still give the decor a 9 out of 10 as the atmosphere was quite relaxing.
The service almost amazing. I walked in and was not greeted for about 5 min, I had servers look at me but had a disappointing look on their face. I asked to be seated away from the natural light windows. And the communication was not great. It took 3 attemtps before they found me an ideal table in a nearly empty restaurant.
I noticed that every table had a caraf of water on their table. It took 10 min before i could get water on my table. I ordered a coffee an it was ok 6 out of 10 it didnt taste burnt and it wasnt fresh but it wasnt old.
I ordered The Farmer, chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast. The chicken fried steak with sausage gravy tasted so good..an easy 10. The sourdough toast with egg yolk a 9.5 the eggs were an 8 out out of 10 and the has browns were an easy 7.5.
I also ordered swirrled french toast. 3 slices of cinnamon swirl bread dipped and grilled with powder sugar and your choice of either blueberry or strawberry sauce with maple syrup. I was a bit disappointed on these as what came out was original french toast no cinnomon swirl and dated strawberries. A 2 out of 10.
I noticed they had cinnomon rolls and latley I have been on a cinnomon roll kick. 9 out of 10.
They are open until 2 and serve breakfast while they are open so thats a huge plus and they are under new ownership. One of the 2 partners i had a chance to meet and they are working on a new menu that will add some spanish heritage dishes to the menu. Super authentic family owned business paying respect to the former owner and many dish regular favs on the...
Read moreThis was my third visit to Sante Fe Cafe.
First time I had the french toast. Pretty good.
Second time I had the cowboy omelet and a cinnamon roll. Both were fantastic. They were both so good I ordered the exact same thing the third time, which I didn't realize until after I started eating the cowboy omelet. I had the hollandaise held off. I'd rather get my calories from sweet pastries than from cream sauce on my eggs.
The cowboy has a delicious cream cheese center, with spinach and onions and a solid amount of chopped up bacon. Next time I'll order my hashbrowns extra crispy. They were good just as they were though, don't get me wrong.
The cinnamon roll was perfect. My buddy and I split it. First, it was only $3. Well worth it. Second, it was crunchy, yet soft. And there was plenty of cinnamon center. Oh man, do yourself a favor and order the cinnamon roll.
The coffee was meh. It was nice that they gave you free coffee while you wait, but it wasn't much as far as coffee goes. It was about standard for free coffee. The coffee inside that I later paid for was the same coffee. It was uber watered down and light brown. I took a star off the rating because of the coffee.
We showed up at 9 on a Saturday morning and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Nothing too long.
The waitress was nice, firm and to the point. I asked her for recommendations and she answered very quickly, without even thinking about it, the chicken fried steak and eggs. I didn't want to hit my daily sodium allotment for the day at 10AM, so I went with the omelet instead.
Many of the menu items are named after towns in New Mexico. It is Sante Fe Cafe, afterall. And it's not off of Sante Fe in Olathe. Don't get confused.
Overall, very pleased with this little...
Read moreI would say that this has been our favorite breakfast spot for close to 20 years. This was our first visit since ownership change sometime in the latter half of 2022. The first clue was there weren't many cars in the parking lot. The dining room was about a third full. We were surprised as usually all the tables are full. I will say that service and staff were very friendly and attentative. However, when we got our food, the change was apparent. Original menu was still in place, but the quality was subpar. Eggs were served on cold plates, and although served up quickly, were cold. Hashbrowns were not cooked correctly on an oiled flattop...no golden brown outside or tender inside. They were stirred up and had scorch spots which rendered them dry and flavorless. The bacon was not the same brand and overly smoky as if a fake smoke flavor was added. We ordered rye toast and got marble rye instead. I would not have ordered if I knew that. Instead of the standard 2 slices, only got 1. Chicken fried steak was passable, but the sausage gravy lacked that sausage and peppery flavor. The coffee was bitter. The standard carafes of lemon water on the table are gone. On the plus side, service was good and portions were overall generous. I think the staff was eager to please and for these things we tipped well. I hope my candid review will help this new business up their quality game and they would definitely see their volume improve. I always try to patronize small businesses and may try again some time down the road. I miss the good food that has always been a staple at this...
