HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! ! ! ! ! ! DON'T EVER SHOP AT THIS COMIC SHOP ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I used to be a long time customer at this comic book shop, but just days after comicon my friend suggested we hit most all of the comic stores in the metro, so we did. This ended up being at the end of our list and I had bragged on the owner before getting there, BOY WAS I EVER WRONG ABOUT THIS GUY!!! The owner was VERY dismissive to BOTH of us, but when a young lady walked in he was VERY attentive to her, looking up comic titles etc. (Seems the owner Sid is ONLY polite to regular customers whom have ALREADY lined his pockets) I asked about an origin book and all he could say was "I don't know"... Then my friend asked about a figure, to which the owner berated him because it was "only sold in a set" and when my friend asked him what the price would be for that figure if he sold it singularly all he could say was "I don't know the price". As other customers cleared out, he started becoming more crass and used A LOT of profanities (don't take your kids here!).
Finally as I'm checking out w/my purchases, I'm looking at the OVER-PRICED bobbles at the desk. The owner actually accuses me of stealing one of his $4 ($1.25 at other comic shops) items that was on my person from THE MOMENT I ENTERED HIS STORE. The owner picks up his remote for his security footage and starts rewinding and trying to prove I'm a THIEF! RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! The nerve of this guy!?!?
I shouldn't of spent a DIME after that type of RUDE TREATMENT! But to prove him wrong about me I finished out my purchase and left the store.
I will NEVER shop from this guy AGAIN and neither should you... I'm still sorely disappointed in this guy as he was the closest comic shop I had, but I guess I'll just have to drive a little further, so I can shop at a DECENT PRICE, not get RIPPED OFF, and then accused of doing so to him.
Don't make the mistake of giving this guy the time of day, keep driving when you see the sign... Unless you like to be treated rudely and accused of shoplifting while browsing, then THIS...
Read moreLet me start by saying that i rarely write reviews about anything, so I am not sure if my review follows the reviews format or not. I am a comic book collector. I have been doing so for many years. When i moved to OP, i looked for a comic shop close to me, and this one was less than 5 mins away. When i first went there, i liked the way the shop was set up. They have a lot of everything. That sums the good. The bad is mainly, and just like what everybody said before me, the guy who works there on weekdays and Saturdays, Syd, lacks the most basic customer relationship skills and knowledge. everything annoys him. if you breath it annoys him. If you bring your kid, who is a teenager by the way, and buys comics, it annoys him. My only impression of him is that some evil organization, like Hydra or the Hand, has one of his family members as a hostage, and they are forcing him to work there, thus the attitude. Also, this is the first comic shop I have seen in my life where there is no comic culture alive in the shop. Syd doesn't read comics, or doesn't care. There are no comic fans lurking around talking about comics at all. Nothing is his fault. Everything is the customer's fault in ordering online, even though he was just complaining about the online system a few weeks ago. i can go on and on and on. Oh, and they rarely have the back issues you want. I regret every single penny i spent there. My recommendation is to find another comic shop somewhere else. I found Elite comic which got much better reviews than this one. I will...
Read moreThis store is wonderful if you are looking for an incredible selection of independent publishers. The selection is unparalleled in the Kansas City area. Also, Pop Culture has a revolving selection of variant covers. Pop Culture makes good use of their small space. Their shelves are always full of recent issues in both independent and big name publishers. Has a smaller selection of bagged and boarded back issues. Also, there is a decent sized table of discounted issues (some recent, so older, so I've never even heard of). Small selection of trades and other graphic novels. Pop Culture also has an interesting collection of action figures and cards (like pop culture ;) not baseball). The guys behind the counter crack me up. They guys are friendly, especially if you show you're not the to mess up their merchandise. I can understand people's frustration with not being able to purchase less than $5 on a credit card (this has happened to me a few times), but I try to look from the merchant's side. The fees charged for using credit cards are outrageous. There is a least one other store comic book store in the K.C. area that does this, not to mention a bunch of other vendors. I give this store five stars with the understanding of their having a wonderful selection of recent issues and their selection of...
