Made a reservation for 6PM, and it took maybe 5-7 minutes for us to be seated. It wasn’t bad at all as it was super busy. We were here to celebrate a birthday. We ordered the shrimp linguine, carbonara, and their dinner special. We also ordered their calamari appetizer which was delicious. Their carbonara was rather… plain. The noodles were a bit overcooked so it was mushy. The portion size was really small for $18. Flavor wise, it was nothing special! It tasted like carbonara! There were scarce pieces of chicken. Presentation was lackluster. I’m not sure if it was worth $18 but you pay for the atmosphere and service! I’m not sure I’d get this dish again! It wasn’t anything special in my opinion to order again, but it was still good to eat! I finished my plate! The shrimp linguine was tasty! It was bursting with flavor and they did not skimp out on their shrimp at all! Again, portion size was rather small but that can’t be helped. Everything came out hot. The shrimp linguine is a must try! I liked how sweet and tangy and flavorful it was! Their dinner special for 02/08/2025 wasn’t special. The birthday girl had ordered it and the Brussels sprouts came out very black. Not sure if that’s how they were intending it to be but it can easily be peeled so you just eat the middle. The risotto was a bit bland but it was not bad. Their shortrib was very tender and juicy and seasoned well. It was very good! Service was good. Water was filled to the brim a lot which was nice. For the price, I’d hope to see more noodles in the plates but has a higher end dining facility, that’s usually the norm I guess. Parking was PACKED if you go during the weekend evening time, expect to not find parking and to have to park a bit far! Would I come back? Yes, yes I would! But only to celebrate things! I’m not sure I’d come back just for casual dining. But I would come back for sure! Our waiter was very kind and sociable and helped our table a lot. He was very kind-hearted! As for the birthday, maybe it was too much to expect a little dessert as a congrats! ᵕ̈ haha that’s on us though and won’t be docked for...
Read moreI’ve been coming to YaYa’s for over 20 years. It has always been a beautiful place with great food and atmosphere, and we’ve shared many wonderful evenings here. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was disappointing enough that we doubt we’ll be back.
We arrived on a lovely fall evening around 5:30 and sat outside. The patio was only about half full, yet it took 30 minutes just to receive bread—which was cold—and another 15 minutes before our first drinks arrived (though the drinks themselves were good).
The appetizer, a ravioli, arrived cold. The manager came over, apologized, and offered to upgrade my 6 oz steak order to 8 oz at no charge, which was appreciated. When the entrées came, my steak was delicious, but the mashed potatoes had dried out as if they’d been sitting under a warmer. My wife’s chicken flatbread was barely edible—cold chicken on what tasted like cardboard.
We ordered a second round of drinks, dessert, and a box for leftovers. Twenty minutes later, none of these had come. We asked for the check, and only then did the boxed desserts arrive along with a $25 gift certificate. Our bill was $150, and while the gesture was noted, it would have been far more appropriate to simply take $25 off our meal that night.
When we got home, my wife’s butter cake was excellent and generously portioned. My Key lime pie, however, was a tiny circle barely larger than a golf ball—so disappointing that I threw it out, along with the $25 certificate.
The sad part is we’ve always loved YaYa’s, but the service and food quality have declined dramatically. By comparison, Redrock Café just across the street consistently delivers excellent food and fast, attentive service. After 25 years, it’s disheartening to say, but we won’t...
Read moreMy wife and I had been looking forward to visiting Yaya's and finally had the opportunity this evening.
However, our experience with the service left much to be desired.
Our waiter initially appeared friendly and engaging. With an 18-month-old child, we prioritize ordering his food first. We requested pizza and milk for him.
Subsequently, we placed orders for our drinks and meals, and our son's food arrived.
As time passed, we wondered about the delay in receiving his milk.
When inquired, our server initially stated that he doesn’t know who we placed the order with. Upon clarifying that we ordered it, he responded, "I don't know; it doesn't come out automatically, you have to specify the type of milk. When we ordered cheese pizza and milk from the kids menu, why didn’t he ask us about our milk preference at the time… why say all these unnecessary things after instead of just admitting you forgot and going and getting the milk?
At about 5:40 we realized happy hour was coming to and end at 6, we tried to look for our server and he was occupied in conversations with other tables. At 5:59 we were finally able to get his attention and placed our order. The server's remark, "oh so you can get them in before happy hour is over," felt unnecessary and condescending tone.
The food was average, and while the drinks were decent, the premium is evident for the location in Prime Overland Park.
We do not plan to return because of the disappointing, unwelcoming and rude service.
Do not go unless you want to ruin your evening. There are several other restaurants that have amazing service and would be happy to...
