If you love or enjoy Vietnamese food, do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Where to start? We were in Oxnard, during evening traffic hour. We opted to try a place new for us, relax and enjoy an early dinner and head home after rush hour. We are surrounded by exceptional Mexican food, but wanted something different. We grew to love Vietnamese food while living in Vegas in the late 1990's. We have found excellent pho places in Simi Valley, and San Fernando Valley and looked forward to trying this highly rated place in Oxnard. HUGE disappointment. Granted, we were early in a shift change- perhaps their other waitstaff was yet to arrive? That said, there were three occupied tables when we arrived and all were served their entrees. We were left standing and waiting to be seated for quite a long time. We are patient and from restaurant biz. We know how hard it is for small biz to manage these days (since pandemic)... yet, this was an unreasonable amount of time to be ignored. Finally, we were seated with menus (after having to ask for them) then we were left for nearly 20 minutes. Waitstaff simply vanished. A few drivers arrived to pick up food... I guess in-house visitors take a backseat? The waiter was older, grayish hair, unshaven and a dirty wrinkled tshirt- he looked like he spent the afternoon surfing and getting stoned- acted like it too. We ordered egg rolls and realized that the plate of lettuce was an additional charge. Okay- that is fine- we don't want to see fresh veg wasted either. Okay, #9 -lettuce plate- 2.95 is reasonable enough. We also ordered #24 Vermicelli lemon grass beef "filet mignon".... NOT filet mignon- more like greasy chopped/shredded flank. Speaking of greasy- -egg rolls popped out in pools of grease-- no grease drain in the kitchen? As for the "lettuce plate" the cucumbers were brutally bruised and chopped by some cro magnum, the lettuce was sad sad sad, the carrot and daikon radish shreds absolutely minimal (perhaps four shreds of each) as well as NO MINT- none whatsoever-- asked for mint- they don't have -even though listed on menu/lettuce plate. Stoned waiter offered basil- okay- told him 3-4 leaves was plenty- so he brings an entire shrub. Fool. As for the dipping sauce? Basically water. No fish sauce or lime flavor. No fish sauce at table either. On the occasion our waiter decided to "stop by"--- well into our meal, I asked for a wedge of lime- nothing doing apparently. Apparently, this restaurant is incapable of keeping the fresh produce that makes Vietnamese Cuisine such a joy. Probably doesn't help that the owner/waiter-manager is stoned and reckless. What a greasy, flavorless disappointment. Our bowl of pho? phogetabout it! was also a disappointing greasy bowl of dishwater and lousy -absolutely lousy beef cuts. Why lie? We know the restaurant biz well. Decades of small biz ownership. It stinks to leave a bad review. Small biz owners are faced with supreme challenges- we know all too well--- but this is simply criminal- what a waste of food. You have most of the ingredients to do things right and yet you fail immensely. So, while we were waiting to place an order, we counted 2 dozen dead flies on the floor inside by the greasy windows and door covered in filthy handprints and spills. There were seven dead flies on the floor by the child booster seats by the window. So, you don't have time to order produce, mop, clean windows, sweep floor, or drain grease? or take an order? No thanks. What a huge disappointment. If you enjoy Vietnamese food, avoid this hole. They don't care at all about what...
Read moreThis will be an update review from my previous one. My family and I were extremely disappointed during this visit. We actually ordered this as a takeout and brought it home so this will be a review on the food only.
First, we ordered the Rocket Shrimp rolls, the chicken and shrimp fried rice, the grilled chicken broken rice plate, the beef and chicken broken rice plate among a few other items.
All the shrimp in each meal was over cooked and nice of them were deveined. It was so gross to see all the dirty shrimp. We didn’t eat any of them. The chicken was extremely dry and lacked any flavor. The beef was over cooked and dry.
When I picked up the order from they restaurant, we had five boba drinks. Four of the drinks were in a drink carrier and inside a bag which was great but when I asked for a second drink carrier for the fifth drink, the employee told me she didn’t have a carrie for just one drink. This made it difficult to carry because I had a total of four bags with food, one bag with drinks, the single drink and it was raining extremely heavy. It seemed like once I paid my $127.00 tab, I was no longer important to them.
This is a complete opposite experience I always have at the Pho restaurant in Port Hueneme. We know went here because the other restaurant was closed for the Christmas holiday. This will be our last time going here....

Pho Oxnard is Pho-nomenal!
Me and my Dad recently had the pleasure of dining at Pho Oxnard, a family-run Vietnamese restaurant that exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were transported to Vietnam, with the fragrant aromas of basil and mint filling the air. The Thai iced tea and Vietnamese coffee were both amazing, and while they didn't offer the traditional Vietnamese percolating coffee filter, I still enjoyed their delicious pre-mixed coffee.
The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and some of the best Vietnamese cuisine we've ever had. We especially loved the meat vermicelli dish we ordered, which was bursting with bold flavors and tender meat. And the Pho Tai was absolutely delicious - the broth was rich and savory, and the rare beef slices were cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home.
Overall, we highly recommend visiting Pho Oxnard. And when you do, be sure to mention that Otis from...
