This is a first for me, in that a social friend operates the establishment. It’s difficult, but perhaps he will rethink who he hires to represent him. When I was finally recognized, I stated that I wanted something, which had been similarly advertised, pulled pork over French fries...which I though would be a simple substitution of meat...pulled pork instead of brisket. I was immediately redirected to chose from an item on the menu. I asked if I might have the pulled pork over fries, instead of in a sandwich, as offered on the menu. This seemed a foreign idea, but they agreed. I specified the sides and moved on to order an IPA, asking for a recommendation. One of the two walked away. At that point, things got better. Later, the one who walked away brought my entree, but without sides. I walked back to the bar, and asked for one of the sides; shortly all three arrived, with a good serving of attitude. I’m dining mid- afternoon; there were three tables besides mine. The only person who asked after my satisfaction with the meal, was the chef. I gave him thumbs up. The pulled pork was excellent. Isn’t it amazing how poor, or worse still, indifferent service can overshadow and spoil an otherwise well-prepared meal? It has been my experience that a pub is commonly a positive, convivial atmosphere. Hopefully, Pint and Barrel will once again offer this to more than the regulars. ...just a side note, masks for employees seemed to be optional, and gloves for food-handlers...

Best draft beer in the State of Texas - FULL STOP. Why? A number of reasons including but not limited to the fact that it is incredibly well managed. The staff takes meticulous care for the taps, lines, kegs, glassware and entire beer to glass process. You will never have a bad beer here. Owner on site most days. Ongoing staff training and review of the process to ensure each beer poured is as fresh as possible and as intended by the brewer. Taps are also rotated and customers have different choices each time. New to beer tasting or a seasoned beer connoisseur? No worries, the staff are friendly, unpretentious and will listen to what you like and talk you through your options. They’ll even let you taste test a few before you make your selection. Lucky enough to meet the owner when he is has a moment and he will spin you a great yarn about your beer. I so recommend finding him (Chris) and talking to him. This makes going to the Pint and Barrel an unforgettable and delightful experience. Oh, and the food is outstanding too! Kitchen manager (Scotty) is committed and passionate about his trade. You will taste the difference.

This is mine and my wife’s absolute favorite place. So lucky to have it here in Palestine. The Pint and Barrel punches way above their weight. Worth the drive...

Atmosphere is great but at this point all it has going for it. The service is terrible. It was a busy weekend and we stood in line finally got up to order and since they were so busy we wanted to go ahead put our food order in. As we start to do so we were told no we can't put in our food order we HAVE to order our drinks first because that is the way he wanted to put it in. rudely but we complied. Then on ordering they have options up there that are no longer available at all. The guy helping us went into why that's no longer available and how she is the only person to even ask for that in over a month. She then settled for fries but asked if they can come loaded (Since they have loaded potato skins on the menu) and was told that they can't load fries that's not even an option.

Another person in our party who frequents there a lot asked about the ribs and was told by the woman taking her order word for word responds "Do you even see that on the menu anywhere?" A simple we longer carry ribs would have sufficed since they in fact carried ribs at one time.

These visits were a week and 1/2 apart. Its a shame because it was one of our favorite places. Service killed what was a favorite for us. Updating your menu and being kind can really make a difference for...

Well, I came here for food and maybe that was a mistake. Walking in I didn't know where to go or what to do, both the people in front of us and behind us were the same. Just lots of people standing around inside confused at the ordering process. Anyways fries were cold and the thicker cuts were raw. Coincidentally I had the same exact fries at The Harbor restaurant just yesterday, they called them sidewinder fries I think, but they were cooked perfectly at the harbor. Pretty disappointed that you can't cook a French fry properly. I got the wagyu burger on special, it tasted exactly like a frozen patty with no seasoning. Looking at the patty I could tell it was cooked on a flat top. Very disappointing. Cole slaw had a strong taste of vinegar and was very watery, I definitely think they mix red wine vinegar in there. It was odd for me, I did not enjoy. The Philly had good flavor but was very very dry. I think a proper philly needs mayo or something. Sorry to throw so much shade on this place but I did not enjoy the food whatsoever. Staff seemed very friendly, lots of beer and wine. Outside seating had great atmosphere. Come here to drink, not to eat.

We visited Palestine, TX for the Texas Railroad ride. The place was recommended by the hotel staff. The menu looked good for my family of 5 -2 adults and 3 children after reviewing the reviews and looking at some posted photos online. The place was nice. Although called a pub, it had a nice family vibe. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside on benches. The children loved it. They were able to run around and play whilst waiting for food. I gave it a 3 star based solely on the taste of the food. The adults ordered 2 different types of burgers - Swiss mushroom and Paty -melt, which came with fries and coleslaw and then children got chicken strips with coleslaw and fries. Both burgers tasted exactly the same. They were unseasoned and had no taste. The chicken strips were overly battered and like the burgers had not taste. Literally I had to search for chicken meat. I must say, the food was piping hot and the fries and coleslaw were good. My wife and I love a good burger and this fell way way short, especially after reading and being recommended that this got a 4.7 star google review.

This is like a Northern California - Washington State has come to move into East Texas. Service is walk to bar and order plus basically get your own silverware and napkins in the corner but by law we will serve u alcohol at bar because we must but not really going to get a straight server. The idea is self serve and wine is here but limited selections. Beer is the cooler on-tap served. The place is an old town feel from the converted old cotton gin building with outdoor n indoor limted seating. Fried comfort food, corn beef reuben does exist, cod fish served fish n chips style fish sticks. Good fried Okra , burger, pork bbq. Chicken is dry. Don't expect white cloth tables n service help. This is a paper napkin bar snack shop with more or less wine and beer options. Place to relax is away from front bar.
