This used to be our Favorite place to eat when it was the Red Fire Grill. We went in for our Valentines Day dinner not knowing that it had changed names. The hostess told us about the change but said nothing had really changed because it was the same chef. There is no way this is the same chef! This night that we went they were having a four coarse dinner that was pre selected for the night and it was paired with four different wine flights for $100. First was a mushroom risotto that came out like mushroom flavored soup. So over done that it liquified. Second was a salad with a raspberry dressing that’s was actually good. Third was a fillet on mashed potatoes, crab meat and lobster tail on top. Presentation was great but everything was so overcooked I thought they were mad at it when they prepared it! The waitress never asked how we wanted our steak cooked and I guessed she decided that we wanted it well done! It was the absolute worst filet I have ever had. We did send it back and they did cook us another. It was still not that great but with that being said I am not a huge filet fan. The poor lobster tail was literally dry and was like eating a fishy piece of lobster jerky. HORRIBLE! Fourth out of the gate was some sort of chocolate cake dessert that again was on the verge of being burned. It looked like a charcoal briquette that you BBQ with. It needed a side of lighter fluid! HORRIBLE! Not sure why they are trying to cook everything to death! This, at one time, was my absolute favorite restaurant but has now fell to the bottom of the barrel. It does have a great atmosphere and some friendly staff. Our waitress however had the personality of a shoe and seemed to hate her job. All in all it was not worth the $200 I spent that night and I could have gotten better food at...
Read moreTHIS is THE restaurant to enjoy the finest dining of Palestine, Texas! (Actually, perhaps the best in East Texas!) Built 1914 for railroad visitors, the Redlands Hotel has been modernized without losing its soul! It is slightly upscale and don't let the surrounding area cast any doubts on the fabulous food and service you will enjoy!!
Our welcome was gracious in a very friendly East Texas way. It felt genuine and with heart!
(Tip: ask for Ariel. Absolutely one of the best servers I've experienced in months! She is attentive without being in your way, outgoing, full of energy and smiles plus builds a rapport that few but the skilled at elite fine dining establishments can do. Seriously!)
The menu is full of options and while we were seeking to stay on our diet, we were able to have decadent flavors while eating healthy. The Queen Dinner Salad up front set the stage for the super dining experience! With a quality spring mix, it was put over the top with sweet pecans, strawberries, feta cheese and to die for pear vinaigrette!
The pecan encrusted salmon I had was the best fish dish I've had in years! (I eat a LOT of fish!)
Ariel was close to winning me over to a serving of pecan cobbler, but I knew that would bust my diet as well as belt. (But, oh, was I tempted!)
Price was really reasonable for the quality, taste, appearance and elite service! Make sure you...
Read moreWhile in Palestine, on a weekend trip, we dined at Queen Street Grille on a Saturday night. It is housed in the historic Redlands Hotel. The hostess, Maria, made us feel right at home. She was charming. At our request, Maria made several recommendations from the menu. We ordered the cold salmon appetizer. It came with bread, capers, red onion, and sour cream. Outstanding! My husband tried the seared duck and I ordered the redfish with a wonderful glaze. Both plates were accompanied with asparagus. My fish came with risotto and my husband's with mashed potatoes. He was very pleased with the duck and I was delighted with the redfish. Both were excellent choices. The margarita I had was just right. Maria told me Jose made it. My compliments to Jose! We topped off our dinner with blueberry bread pudding with amaretto sauce. It was light and flavorful. The room in which we dined was lovely. The tall windows and transoms throughout the restaurant gave a dramatic and historic feel to the dining room. We look forward to returning at our next opportunity. The wonderful food, charming hostess, and beautiful setting made for a memorable dining experience. We highly recommend dining at Queen...
