Howdy, folks! Gather 'round and get ready for a side-splitting, four-star review of Home Grill in Palestine, Texas. Our trusty wrangler, Nathan, took care of us with his Texan charm and a smile as wide as the Rio Grande. So hold onto your ten-gallon hats and saddle up for a hilarious review!
Let me start by sayin', Nathan was quicker with the water than a thirsty coyote on a summer day. That fella had us hydrated faster than a desert oasis. But when it came to coffee, well, let's just say we had time to grow a mighty fine mustache while waitin'. My ol' pops, bein' a coffee connoisseur, was starin' at that empty mug like a confused armadillo. It was a slow-coffee rodeo, but we pardoned Nathan 'cause we reckon he's still wranglin' those coffee beans.
Now, let's talk vittles! My dad had a hankerin' for some lemon cake, but it turned out drier than a tumbleweed in the desert. We had to chase it down with some Texas-sized gulps of water. Mia, my sassy lil' spitfire, ordered the BLT with onion rings. Those rings were greasier than a pig at a barbecue contest, but boy, were they finger-lickin' good. We had to use napkins as grease mops!
Now, my brother Roi fancied himself a mighty Sirloin Steak. He dug into it and declared it mighty tasty, but reckon it could use a tad less salt. We reckon the chef had a heavy hand, mistakin' the steak for a salt lick. It had us reachin' for our canteens!
Here's where things get downright hilarious! My dad's trusty seein' eye dog went bonkers over them fries! That pooch gobbled 'em up like a coyote on the prowl. I tell ya, those fries were like doggy gold nuggets, and that pup couldn't get enough!
Now, for my order, I went for the classic chicken fried chicken. It was so dang good, I nearly sprouted feathers! But bein' the proud Texan I am, I gotta confess I've had better versions in my time. And here's the kicker—no biscuit in sight! Now, I ain't one to complain, but forgettin' the biscuit is like forgettin' to say "howdy" at a Texas hoedown. It just ain't right!
All in all, Nathan was a mighty fine wrangler who made sure we had a rip-roarin' good time at Home Grill. Despite a few bumps in the chuckwagon, we left with full bellies and smiles as wide as the Lone Star State. So, if y'all find yourselves passin' through Palestine, Texas, wrangle on down to Home Grill and give Nathan a holler. Tell him the rootin'-tootin' cowboy sent ya for a taste of Texas hospitality!
Happy eatin', y'all, and may your bellies be as full as...
Read moreUpdate, about six months later: I'm willing to update this from four to five stars. Food's consistently good, even if you get it through DoorDash. I'll admit, I was reluctant to try this place. Hasn't this same building been three different things in as many years, and nothing's stuck around?
I have to say, though, I was pleasantly surprised.
We went in late on a Saturday night, about an hour and a half before closing time. Late as it was, they didn't seem to be in a rush to get us out the door.
I had a strip steak with a baked potato and grilled vegetables. The steak wasn't the the greatest ever (best steak I've found in town is the ribeye when you can catch it at Pint and Barrel. He sets a pretty high bar with that), but it will still pretty good. Nice and charred on the outside, slathered in butter with a great steak seasoning, but a little passed the medium rare I was looking for.
The sides surprised me, though. My grilled vegetables and the parmesan green beans my daughter got weren't something that had just been sitting in a warming tray all night. They were fresh vegetables that had been cooked to order. The fried pickles and onions rings seemed like they were battered fresh, too, and overall it seemed like the kitchen took pride in their sides. Too many places just kinda phone it in, and it's nice to see them putting in the work.
Overall, I'd say it's worth another visit.
Editing to add a note from that second visit: don't skip the...
Read moreMy Husband and I went here for our Anniversary dinner on 04/30/23 we were in Palestine for a few days. We weren't sure we wanted to go because of a few bad reviews but we figured we would go and decide for our self's. I ordered the 6oz sirloin steak with fries I wanted a salad but they told us they didn't have any salad (it was only 6:15 pm) how do you not have any salad? That is the reason for the 4 stars & not 5 the waiter brought a lady across from us a salad about 30 minutes after he told us that. My steak was cooked perfect the fries were good and I had to pick another side so I got the green beans they were very good I was happy about that. My Husband ordered the Seafood Basket which he was very pleased with, we also ordered cheese sticks as a starter they were very good and there was a ranch sauce and a red sauce that came with them I really wasn't sure what kind of sauce the red was but it was fantastic I used the rest of the sauce we didn't use for the cheese sticks and poured it on my green beans oh man it was so good. I finished all of my food I usually always never finish everything on my plate but it was just so good. Our waiter Nathan took very good care of us even though I really don't think he wanted to have to tell us they didn't have any salad he apologized a few times at least there was something else...
