Palm Desert John's Restaurant will take you back where the John's name all began before they reached out to place a restaurant in Palm Springs.
My father would bring me to this location many years ago & till this day it remains there & very little has changed.
We do not come here regularly but decided to this past week due to having my personal mechanic live around the neighborhood.
My partner & I both ordered off the lunch menu, however when we first came in we were nearly acknowledged (employee enthusiasm was just not there at the time (I recall going to Subway that same morning before work & the team member was much more welcoming & courteous as well & they don't have a service charge prompted after the payment) we've been to the Palm Springs location & the same thing happened now that I come to think about it, it's very much ironic.
After receiving our food we sat down & we noticed the owner by what it looked like he sat on one of the very end booth tables just looking back at the kitchen or TV can't recall & at the time we noticed a slight change in service steps suddenly after his appearance, again very ironic.
Long story short nothing compared to the Palm Springs location & the level of service they have when providing a service at your table for you.
Palm Desert has A Pricier Menu . Food was 5 stars. Enjoyed it and was very tasty. Ambiance is nice we went when is was past lunch maybe...
Read moreI've been going to John's since they first opened almost 30 years ago. Huge selection of food at still reasonable prices. However with that being said, the food was "good" but not like it use to be. We went for dinner and ordered a gyro and a steak sandwich and fried zucchini. The gyro was very plain and lacked the flavor is use to once have. It's was 2 thin pieces of meat, 2 slices of tomatoes, onion, and yogurt sauce. It's wasn't bad, but not the point where you would say, "I'll be back for that". Which is something that John's always has been. The steak sandwich was fine. The tomatoes on the sandwich looked like they were cook with the steak. The roll that the steak was on, soggy and smothered in 1000 island dressing. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great by itself, but mashed with the other ingredients made it kess than memorable. The zucchini fries were massive. We ordered the large and were quite surprised at the amount we got. The zucchini fell short in the taste category. They were cooked hot and fresh, crispy to perfection but lack in salt or any other seasonings. It was good, but it missed the mark. I will continue to to go John's because it is still good, but it use to be great. I hope they can hold on to a good thing and possibly become the great symbol of diner food...
Read moreThis is our first time eating here and we are very disappointed. I asked for chicken kabob meal with no rice extra veggies and when the food was ready the plate had rice and no extra veggies with one kabob. I told the waitress that I asked for no rice. She said oh. I'm so sorry. Took it back and asked for them to remake the plate. What did the cook do the cook scraped off the rice. Placed more vegetables on top of the rice laughed about it and said there! when the plate was taken back. Obviously the plate looked horrible I didn't want to make a fuss so ignored it. as I was eating the food underneath the vegetables there was still rice. I unfortunately cannot have rice but what I at least had hoped that they would have placed it in a different plate instead of just scraping it off and leaving it there. I did not complain again which was my fault but I didn't want to be a bother. Will not be returning to this place especially when the cook and staff laugh and still hand a plate. Looking horrible, I forgot to take a picture when the food was...
