Tonight, we dined at Mitch's on the El Paseo and Portola in Palm Desert. The place was packed! Outdoors we noticed a great beautiful white bougainvillea, which aren't that common. We've been many times here. There were five of us dining tonight, sitting outdoors in the evening. A bitter wind came up, and we all got chilly. But then they turned on these beautiful heaters. And we suddenly noticed that all the booths were lighted up and had been recovered in a new delightful, fresh print. Our waitress, Mallory, who we've had many times before, was her usual cheery self. Small complaint, despite specifically asking them to time the courses, they came on top of each other, and we did feel rushed. Our host bought a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio (See pic), which was excellent. It wasn't Silver Oak excellent, but very nice. For starters, the other guests split Caesar salads, our host had his favorite soup, "French Onion". He noted they put chives in which is abnormal, but he thought tasted ok. I had the Caprese Salad, which was beautifully presented with Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata cheese. The burratta was not as smooth as in past but still yummy. For entrees, the host ordered the duck and thought it was delicious; his date had an enormous pork chop (See pic), which was served with potatoes and green beans. She said it was on the borderline of being too well cooked, but was ok. The other two guests both had the filet mignon, which I double-checked was cooked a true Medium Rare. I had two orders of sushi, California roll 6 piece, and Crunchy Tempura (also known as a Carburator Roll) 12 piece. Couldn't eat the CA rolls and took those home (too full). We declined dessert & coffee but I took pix of the...
Read moreDined here with friends on 3/14. They had previously been there the night before so we were excited. The food was just OK. Nothing to rave about. The service was mediocre at best, we were seated in a back part of the restaurant and it was later in the evening, maybe that had something to do with it. My biggest problem, is the fact we were charged after our dinner on 3/14. The charge fell off of our account on 3/18, posted again on 3/19. We were just charged AGAIN for this on 3/22. After calling them, it sounds like they will be getting that second charge refunded. That’s to be expected. Nothing else was offered to make the situation right on the restaurants side however which is a real problem for me. The fact that our credit card information was still stored with their processing company 11 days later is unacceptable. I don’t think throwing your hands up in the air and saying it’s not our fault, but we are advocating on your behalf is a very acceptable answer from the owner. At the end of the day, it’s your business, you should make things right. Not pass the buck to the processing company. Plenty of other places in the area to check out, especially after this headache with their credit card processing company.
::update:: the below response was nothing more than a copy and paste. They posted the exact same response word for word on a review my wife left. The only difference being they called her by her name, instead of “valued guest”. You absolutely control the vendors you use, and it’s unfathomable how nonchalant you seem to be about the whole situation. Credit card information should not be stored for periods of time to be charged more than once. Just go to Mastros, it’s actually...
Read moreMy wife and I found Mitch’s while on vacation from Orange County for our 1st wedding anniversary. After we struck out at our own hotel for dinner due to COVID restrictions, we called several area restaurants who rudely let us know they were booked up and wished us “best of luck.”
We then found Mitch’s while we were literally down the street and the hostess very politely said they were completely booked, but would ask the owner if there was anything they could do. She quickly jumped back on the phone and said “absolutely, please come in! We are slammed but we will find you a table.”
When we arrived, the valet was polite, the restaurant was beautiful and Mitch himself greeted us with a welcoming and honest smile. He took us right to our table and brought us two glasses of champagne!
Mitch was even kind enough to sit with us for a bit to chat and celebrate, and we learned more about Mitch and his wife Melissa, who he owns and operates the restaurant with.
Our sticky rice tuna sushi appetizer was delicious, the French onion soup was the best I have ever had, my ribeye was perfect and my wife loved her shrimp fettuccine that we enjoyed with perfectly executed martinis. We ended with a delicious slice of chocolate cake, again, on the house from Mitch.
One of the best and most memorable dinner’s we have ever had. Absolutely first class. Would...
