Update for 7.11.25 visit: Drove almost four hours coming from Phoenix. No wait to be seated after using the restroom. My server was Kristen (?) who took my beverage order of water and root beer; easy ice. I had a question about the size bowls used for soup; then ordered the large bowl of borscht soup with cucumbers and sour cream. I was in no rush or hurry, and enjoyed my soup when it came. Odd thing. My drinks came and she was giving me straws. I said “no thank you…” and jokingly said “save the turtles.” I wasn’t expecting the political riposte. And won’t delve further as to that moment she became triggered. She soon became pressed as to my ordering an entree. Why? Her shift was up at 2:00. Why did the host seat me with a server who was leaving so soon? I just sat down less than 30 minutes, was in no rush, and wanted to relax. After waiting awhile I met my new server, Pauline.
Pauline was asking what I’d like to order, but there was an issue I noticed with the root beer. It was going flat, and didn’t have as much flavor or syrup. I asked her twice to check the fountain. She left and brought another root beer and it tasted about the same. My entree was the grilled Reuben (pastrami) with creamy coleslaw. The sandwich was great. Odd thing to notice was no pickle. My previous experiences at this location and the one in Palm Springs is, the servers bring pickles without asking. I boxed my other half of the Reuben, and asked for a piece of the coconut cake; which came boxed to go. A bag was left too for me, and my check that came to $55.35 after tax. Service was really not stellar or good at all. I tipped generously at 15%+, and when Pauline saw it her appreciation seemed less than genuine. I was very tempted to leave a $.01 so that the manager would ask about what happened?
I’m tempted to drive further next time to the Palm Springs location. This experience here turned me off between the two servers I had. So unlike my past experiences.
Before leaving I used the restroom one last time. The other restroom was now blocked off and out of service. On my way out I stopped by the bakery case to get a pound of cookies. Spent $17.85 for a variety. They were good, and enjoyed by coworkers the following day.
Initial Review made about a year ago. ~ Came here on my way back to AZ. I had discovered it while watching an episode of Triple-D. My lunch started with a small bowel of chicken soup with a Matzo ball. A small accompaniment of pickles and sauerkraut came to the table. Then my sandwich; the grilled Reuben with creamy coleslaw. Everything was delicious. Loved the soup; the pickles; the creamy coleslaw; and sandwich. Only recommendation I’d make is the dressing. It wasn’t the best 1,000 island dressing. It was used sparingly on the Reuben. I took leftovers to go as the portions are generous, and saved room for a little dessert of coconut cake 🍰. The restaurant was crowded as I had about a twenty minute wait. Plenty to check out in the sweets case of their bakery. Service was a bit tardy, and the restaurant is clean. I’m a big guy and sitting in the booth was tight. I never understood why the tables were designed to be stationary, and to overlap the seats. Be aware of that if you’re big like me. My experience was very enjoyable. The check after tax came to a total of $47.95. If passing by again I’ll certainly stop for...
Read moreI have seen the original Sherman's in Palm Springs and always wanted to try it. I was in Palm Desert and wanted a sandwich for a late lunch. I was surprised and delighted to find a Sherman's location near me. Located right off Monterey, in a nearby strip mall it was easy to find. Parking is limited. This location was busy. We were greeted at the door. This location is small however the open concept and comforty booths make it feel cozy. They offer a walk up order counter and seating. I'm sure in summer outdoor seating is available. We were seated quickly. The menu can be overwhelmed however the variety makes it hard to choose. I told the waitress it was my first time and what I had in mind to eat. She wrote my order as I wanted and let me know how to order it in the future. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with provolone on a roll. My mom ordered the turkey club on toasted Sourdough. Both sandwiches came with a choice of potato salad or coleslaw. We both chose coleslaw. We were amazed by other peoples food. Portions are large. Everything looks delicious. Our food came in a reasonable time considering how busy it was. I was not disappointed. The sandwiches are enormous and could be easily shared. My pastrami sandwich was excellent. Meat was flavorful, tender, thinly sliced and piled high. The roll was soft and fresh that melted in your mouth. The coleslaw was fresh and tasty without a mayonnaise overkill. My mom's club sandwich was piled high with turkey, it is easily two meals! I was impressed with everything. This is a place I would go back and try something different every time. The service was supreme. Our waitress came back several times. The dessert menu was amazing. The desserts looked fresh and homemade. Portions of dessert are enormous and sharable. You will not go hungry here! You can tell the quality is the best. The food is made with love. It is spendy however for the quantity and quality of food, it's appropriate and well worth it. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back. I look forward to trying the pistachio cake. Go, you...
