The Hideout Kitchen and Bar in Palm Desert, California, is a standout dining spot that impresses with its relaxed yet stylish atmosphere. Housed in the former space of Sammy’s Restaurant, the establishment offers a fresh and welcoming vibe that feels perfect for both casual gatherings and special occasions. The interior balances comfort and modern charm, making it easy to settle in and enjoy a memorable meal. The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, ensuring there’s something to satisfy every craving. Portions are notably generous, a refreshing touch for those who appreciate hearty meals. From perfectly cooked entrees to creative appetizers, every dish is packed with flavor and attention to detail. Whether you’re indulging in classic comfort foods or exploring their more adventurous offerings, you’re bound to leave full and delighted. What truly sets The Hideout apart is its exceptional service. The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. From the moment you walk in, you’re made to feel like a valued guest, with servers eager to accommodate special requests and ensure every detail of your visit is flawless. Combine this level of service with the great food and atmosphere, and The Hideout Kitchen and Bar becomes a must-visit destination in Palm Desert.

So we decide to check this place out despite the reviews. Upon ordering drinks; our server seemed to lack the knowledge of what the house bar carried as far as what the house well was and told us they didn’t carry energy drinks. We clarified and asked if they could do a vodka Red Bull; she then said oh ya. We asked her about recommendations and saw reviews of the filet mignon lasagna and asked about that. She told us they were out of the lasagna (shocking). We started off with appetizers; the pesto Brussels sprouts and Asian buffalo wings. Let’s say we didn’t bother to get dinner; the appetizers were terrible. The sprouts were awful with super thick and chucking pesto and they tasted sour. The wings tasted like they were frozen then crock-potted (soggy) and the sauce was cold. We decided not to bother and had to find our waitress for the check (she didn’t come back and check in at all following our appetizers). I like to add we still paid for this meal, didn’t report how bad this experience was at all. We luckily walked down to Mama Gina’s instead to get dinner. I do have to say the management really needs to make some major adjustments for this place to survive. Would not recommend and listen to the reviews.

My wife and I had the chance to eat brunch here due to a guest suggestion from the hotel that we were were staying at for our Spring Break vacay. We were pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. Our waitress was nice. Provided drink suggestions when asked. My wife had a Strawberry Moscow mule and I had a basil margarita with muddled Strawberries and cucumbers (My request) and they accommodated!! Yummmmmmyyy both drinks. Our food was superb. Omggg...I do not normally eat all of my food in one sitting, especially a burger. However, I ate that whole 1/2 lb of short rib brisket and chuck blend gladly lol. It was delicious. Not to mention on a bed of butter lettuce and juicy tomatoes...ohhh.. that soft bun. I enjoyed my WHOLE meal. My wife had the chicken parmesan sandwich. She said it was okay. Oh well.. she should have got the burger lol. The fries were good as well. I gladly reccomend this spot. Ppl were ordering the pizza and poke nachos... all of that looked so tasty too. We will visit again when we return. Lol.

Wow—just wow. Hideout Kitchen + Bar is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we had stumbled upon something truly remarkable. The ambiance was warm and inviting, but it was the food and service that made this experience unparalleled.

We started with the Buffalo cauliflower, and oh my goodness—it was exquisite! The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of crispiness and heat to keep each bite absolutely divine. Then came Grandma’s meatballs—rich, hearty, and bursting with soul-warming goodness. But the real showstopper? The New York steak. Cooked to absolute perfection, every bite melted in our mouths, a testament to the chef’s masterful technique. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we indulged in the apple pie. Holy moly. It was sublime! Flaky, buttery crust, perfectly spiced filling—it was an experience, not just a dessert.

And let’s talk about the service—beyond first-class. The owner/manager, Vic, was exceptionally attentive, gracious, and genuinely invested in ensuring that every guest had a phenomenal experience. His passion for hospitality is palpable, setting a standard of service that is simply unrivaled. He checked in on us multiple times, ensuring that every detail was flawless and welcoming any feedback with sincere appreciation. It’s rare to find this level of dedication, but Vic and his team have perfected the art of hospitality.

We come from Newport Coast, and let me tell you—this place is a treasured gem. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s an elevated dining experience that we can’t wait to relive. Hideout Kitchen + Bar has set the bar incredibly high, and we’re already counting down the days until...

In summary: Not impressed. Save your money, and go elsewhere, there are way better restaurants on El Paseo. The service was terrible and the food did not match the price point.

We went to the hideout on 06/04/24 at about 6pm, with a party of six people (not a large party). The restaurant seemed moderately busy but not packed. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Marsala for $30 and my wife ordered a steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli for $47. I also ordered a vodka cranberry drink for $14.

We waited for over an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did, they completely forgot the order (a personal pizza) for one of the other people in our party and he had to wait another 20 minutes for his food to arrive. We also had to practically send up a flare to get our drinks re-filled.

The Tikka dish was okay, definitely not authentic tasting, but also not bad. The Steak on the other hand, was a giant disappointment. It was bland, the mashed potatoes were watery and bland, and the broccoli was overcooked. My wife seriously said she's had better $15 steaks at Norms. Lastly, my $14 Vodka Cranberry was also a huge disappointment. It was in a tiny glass, maybe 8 ounces tops, and half ice, and I'm pretty sure there was no Vodka in the drink at all. The other folks in our party had the whiskey smash and at least that drink was decent they said.

When it came time to pay, they tacked a forced 20% large party tip on our bill. I'm sorry, but six people is not a large party and I was disgusted that we were forced to pay a 20% tip for absolutely horrible service. We will never go back to this restaurant and I encourage you to...

We were glad the hostess asked if wanted to sit close or away from the music. Enrique our server was friendly but not attentive. When I asked about the fish and chips he rudely replied that those can not be ordered after 3pm instead of saying he'd ask the chef. He also talked so fast and mumbled that we could not understand him and had to keep asking him to repeat. He needs serious training in customer service. The baby wedge and the roasted beet salads were just ok. We ordered appetizers to be delivered after we completed our salads. Unfortunately the hot items arrived after we had taken only a few bites of our salads. We did not understand what the server was saying it sounded like mushrooms so we said we did not order that. She left and a few minutes later server arrived and asked why we sent our food away. Told him it wasn't our order. The whole evening was frustrating and worse the food was not desirable. The avocado fries had a nasty taste and tasted previously frozen. The zucchini fries were very greasy and way too much batter and also tasted previously frozen. The poke nachos were also not fresh. To cap off the evening the guy started bussing the table while we were still sitting there. Clearing the dishes is one thing but wiping the table is a whole different story! And there were plenty of empty tables all around us. Not a positive experience. Dined on the patio in fresh air and had a view of...
