Had a reservation for a group of 10 for my bachelor party. Was looking forward to my friends being able to enjoy a nice ribeye for the special occasion.
In the leadup to the reservation, I had to decide on a prix fixe menu ($95/pp) and fill out a contract that includes a $500 cancellation fee for late cancels. Made sense that they require that for larger groups. The menu stipulates that the meal is served family style, which makes sense for the appetizers (calamari, prosciuttio, bread, etc) but I was figuring that the entree choices of ribeye, chicken, or salmon were still served as plated entrees. I was wrong - those entree proteins were all served pre-sliced, passed around family style. This goes against every other experience I've had with a prix fixe menu at a restaurant, but I guess it's my mistake for not confirming. Apart from this, Teresa, who was my point of contact for the reservation and contract discourse, was helpful and responsive.
I asked the server (Johnny) if we could get more steak, and his kneejerk response was whether or not I wanted to talk to the manager. Okay, I guess I'll talk to the manager. The manager (Anne Marie, I believe) comes out and I said we were surprised the entrees were family style, and we were wondering if we could get some more plates of steak, and her kneejerk response was to cite the contract and that I basically had no recourse. Alright, I felt I was coming to the conversation (now occurring in front of my 9 friends) with a pretty courteous attitude, and hers was rather defensive. She said we could order steaks a la carte. Alright, we didn't really want that, as we were already eating the entree's family style, but good to know, thanks.
Their attitude seemed to change after that when we ordered a $300 bottle of wine for the table. All of a sudden, things were pretty cheery.
In terms of an actual restaurant review, the family style serving left a lot to be desired - the calamari appetizer was actually mostly fried peppers and maybe zucchini with calamari mixed in. The entree was served chicken first, then a minute later salmon, then a minute later a superfluous pasta side dish, then a minute later the steak. I get it, you want to bulk things up and fill us up before we get to the steak.
The steak was served surprisingly rare - though not too rare. It was a pleasant surprise, though definitely a notch under most peoples' preferred medium rare. Coming to a restaurant named STEAK in Italian, it would have been cool for us to each get our own ribeyes.
The service was good - after that one weird moment of referring us to the manager, Johnny was knowledgable and courteous, though we did have to wait a few minutes for fresh utensils after one of the courses was served.
If I could give 2.5 stars, I would. The food itself was cooked fine, though bulked out with carbs and other filler, and the service was as fine as they had to be. Nothing stood out as excellent or a compelling reason to go back or recommend it to other folks fo...
Read moreI took my wife here for her birthday. I made reservations for the only available time of 815pm. We arrived at about 750pm. When we walked in and checked in with the hostess, she was very gruff, saying that there was no way we could be seated early. No worries, we sat at the bar and had a glass of wine. I looked around at the 8-10 empty tables in the establishment. I figured reservations coming in shortly would fill the tables. I was wrong. The tables remained empty the entire time during our dining experience of about an hour and a half. There were also several couples turned away as we waited to be seated. We were finally called up to be seated, and we were seated in the far back corner table. My wife and I felt like we were being stuffed in the back out of the way. The waiter was very nice and a skilled, caring server. We ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, as our first choice of Crab Cakes were not available. The Shrimp Cocktail was delicious, and the lemon was grilled, love that btw. The Cocktail Sauce was not traditionally made, it was made with ketchup and Siracha or a similar hot sauce. We ordered our entrees, my wife having the Lobster Tail, and I got the Lasagna Bolognese. We received our entrees, and it looked great at first, except the Crispy Potato Croquet on my wife's plate was overly well done, bordering on burnt. We notified the server and they brought out another one, the coloring of the outside a drastic difference from the first. (See photo) The new one was undercooked and had a grainy texture to the ingredients. It also had the flavor of old cooking oil. My Lasagna Bolognese was great the first 2 bites, then it went down hill. It was served in a very very hot cast iron skillet, giving it a metallic taste to the pasta. The tomato sauce added during heating was tart but balanced ok with the Lasagna itself. The Lasagna was dry and pasty on the palette due to lack of sauce in its construction. I ate about 1/3 of it trying to like it, but I couldn't. I didn't complain as my wife and I felt like it would not be well received. We paid our bill, tipped the server well, and left. We...
Read moreWonderful atmosphere! The lighting is romantic, the music is perfect (lots of Frank, Dean, Buble), the settings are crisp and clean, and the bread was warm and delicious! Our server was super friendly and attentive, until other diners came into the restaurant. He seemed to be everywhere but at our table. The food was brought out by a very lovely young lady but, still no sign of our server at our table. We started off with a Caesar salad, which was pretty tasteless and very small. My husband ordered the pork chop with mashed potatoes and I ordered the gnocchi with shrimp and scallops. My husband had 2 glasses of Cabernet and I had 1 glass of Moscato. The pork chop came out on a plate with a grilled garlic half and the mashed potatoes were a la carte, which was extra. The potatoes were delicious, according to my husband. The pork chop was marginal. The gnocchi dish was super salty and the gnocchi was very chewy After we finished eating, we waited for our waiter. And waited. And waited. 45 minutes later, he came over to ask if we needed anything else. We asked for our bill. And waited, again. Evidently, there was some sort of issue with the card machine, according to him. He said that he had to take some items off our bill. Not sure what they were. $134 later, we waited a little longer, until he brought the slip for us to sign. We were in the restaurant for, approximately, an hour and a half but, only took 30 minutes to eat. It was a lot of waiting around I feel that we may have been there on an off night, as far as the service went but, the food was average and, I Don't think it was...
