The service is slow. Not the enjoyable kind of being slow but the excruciating kind. The whole experience takes 3.5-4 hours with a lot of waiting in between. The servers did their best but they are just understaffed and try to do all the cooking on the spot. You might argue that you can converse with your friends but it’s a small room stuffed with 30 people. This yurt can be louder than a bar, constantly polluting the peace of the mountain.
The space heater is a cursed blessing. If you turn it off, the whole yurt perishes under the force of winter. If you turn it on, the people sitting next to the space heater might as well be a course of meal themselves as they are being scorched. You just wish the heater is in some quantum entanglement where it’s both on and off at the same time.
There’s no running water or real restroom up in the mountain which means no hand washing except from a small water jar. I wonder how hard the staff has to try to wash their hands thoroughly (working under the assumption that they do) since you have to hold the water jar with one hand while you wash the other.
The price is a rip off since it’s 200 dollars per person not including gratuity. The food is great but definitely not worth the price. With this price, you can have a meal at two-star Michelin restaurant at the heart of nyc. Instead, you chose to hike towards the yurt with no running water and B+/A- food.
One might even argue the yurt is for the experience. A fun snow shoe hike and dine under the yurt, what more are you asking for? A lot more actually. It’s the culture appropriation at its highest. They used the concept of the “the yurt” as a shallow shell and stuffed all the unimaginative bland Americanness in that shell and charged you on your expectations instead of reality.
All three stars are awarded to the amazing staff and the chef. They did their best but even their best is not good enough to defy the systematic failure...
Read moreWe had a Christmas party there in 2019. It was cozy and warm. The food was exceptional! We have been yearning to go back! Last night we had our Christmas party at the Yurt. They have expanded the kitchen to the exterior part of the Yurt which allows them to seat 40 people instead of 26. Great they can accommodate more people per night which gives them more money. Yet it’s back fires in them. I was very displeased.
And to pay $200 per person plus gratuity and drinks…. It was disappointing
Here’s why:
The heater was broken and most people were wearing their coats during entire evening. The main heater was broken. They did have one little space heater but pretty much did nothing for the guest. Inside the yurt I bet it was maybe 50 degrees. It was uncomfortably cold. The chef plates everything and then the waitresses bring it all at once. By the time they plated 40 plates and brought the food to the table everything was cold. The steaming soup I saw was luke warm by the time I tasted it. They need heating lights or something to keep the food warm My red wine was as cold as my ice water. For the amount of money spent, pretty disappointed.
If you have reservations, bring a blanket, hat and extra sweater.
The food is good and probably would have been amazing if it hadn’t been served on...
