The food at your restaurant is delicious! I would love to commend and thank your kitchen staff, they are absolute class. You have a diverse menu, and I love love love the food at your establishment.
Your service staff is absolutely awful. Completely dreadful. From the hostesses, to waitresses, to the takeout staff...even by Kansas City/Midwest standards, they are horrible. I have tried dining in on "a few" occasions, and every time...the bad experience starts with the hostesses and carries on with the waitresses. Granted...most of the time, I am just one person, wanting a good meal. I am not an older couple...but I have yet to have one experience where I didn't feel like an "inconvenience" both to your hostesses and waitresses. I try to tip 20%-30%, and I try to be a "good diner" and make things as easy and simple as possible...but I've yet to find a waitress or server there that doesn't make me feel like I'm inconveniencing them by wanting to have a good meal at your establishment.
My dine in experiences have been so poor, I moved to take-out. By the grace of God...I don't have any children of my own. But, I do like to buy my sister, her husband, and my nephews and niece a good meal every once in a while. Due to my poor experiences with dine-in, I tried purchasing a "somewhat large" to-go order thru your website. A few weeks ago, I placed a to-go order for around $120 worth of food, with a 15% pre-tip attached. Seemed a little high for take out for me...but I wanted to extend an olive branch in hopes the staff would be nice, or at least not awful. Sure enough...this was not enough to spare myself from getting an attitude from your take-out staff. They let me know, unequivocally, they had better things to do than simply hand me the order I had already paid for (with a 15% pre-tip).
Your kitchen staff is amazing, and they produce great and delicious food. I wish I could eat here more often, both for myself and my extended family. My youngest nephew is a bit of a Rib Connoisseur, and both of us love the Ribs you offer. But...your take-out and dine-in staff make it so unbearable and insufferable, I go other places where I don't feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff. I'm at the point that if I ever ate there again, after the meal I'd want to walk thru the kitchen and slip a $5 bill in the pocket of all the kitchen staff, to make sure THEY are the ones that get my tips, and not the waitresses, hostesses, or...
Read moreA tip for anyone who thinks Nick and Jake's sounds like a great place to take Mom on Mother's Day: DON'T! It's a great place for casual dining and drinks, but not so much for special occasions and holidays. Mother's Day is a good example...
This was a truly miserable breakfast. My kids took their mom out to Nick and Jake's this morning as a surprise. They signed in and waited. After a long while, they got called over by the server. Someone didn't show up, he said, so a table was available. Oh yeah... you have 45 MINUTES to eat and get out. HUH? Yes, someone else had a reservation in 45 minutes for the table the kids were given. After a half hour or so of wolfing down breakfast to stay within the time limit, they noticed there were a bunch of tables opening up. Hmm, maybe they'd be able to stay a little longer.
NOPE. The server came back and told them to finish up since the person who reserved the table had arrived. Nobody came by to provide containers for the unfinished food. They DID come by to collect the money! And as the kids left Nick and Jake's, they walked past tables with nobody sitting there. Apparently they had been given use of a SPECIAL table for the few minutes they were there? $20 per person x 3 persons + drinks + tip = over $100 for 45 MINUTES. Then it was time to kick them out and bring in more suckers.
I see this restaurant has a lot of good reviews. Perhaps it's a decent place to eat as long as it's not busy. NOT ON MOTHER'S DAY.
Mom felt bad for the kids (it wasn't their fault), and the kids were stewing about the poor treatment they received. This type of treatment (HURRY UP AND EAT!) should NEVER EVER have happened. I feel the kids deserve an apology and a refund!
NICK AND JAKE'S PROVIDED A SOLID FAILING PERFORMANCE. STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
Addendum after 2 years have passed: nobody from the restaurant has made any attempt to contact me after I posted the review. Usually I get a message apologizing and a promise to improve in the future. But not at Nick & Jake's... To each their...
Read moreWhen you have the best people and staff to share dinner with, it just doesn't make sense to go anywhere else. The flavors of the exquisite foods compliment the experience you have. This is only my second time back, but the waitress never missed a beat and definitely complimented our experience and read our minds like she was super woman.(And she had sooooooo much patience)I would definitely suggest friends and family for this experience. The kids were distracted by snacks and fun family games. The kind of games that draws you away from your phone....which is the best. (If you take the time to really know the game you're playing with your kid, you'd realize how much you may have missed out on your childhood thats trying to grow up too fast)Sometimes when you're in the moment, you don't realize how much you're missing with just going old school. Maybe it's not the food, maybe it's the experience? Or maybe it is the food and not the experience...what do you think? You have to go at least 3 times or more, just so I can see what I've missed. 😃 😊 ❤️ (I'm going to go again, sooner than you know..so let me know your experience)
Better yet, when you go, invite me. Maybe it's me but I doubt it. 😆 I'm ready for a challenge though.
I do want to thank the AMAZING STAFF for being supportive like every other establishment SHOULD be when it comes to breast-feeding. We weren't ever questioned/felt reprimanded/wronged.... we just felt like friends and family having a meal & making the biggest difference to our society.
These are our people, this is an establishment we can...
