I love this place. The gentleman who runs the restaurant is pleasant, kind, and serves delicious food.
Know what to expect: This is not a standard sit down restaurant. You purchase your meal to-go and heat it up at home, often cooking your own rice. The prices are right and the food has never disappointed me. I recommend setting aside some time for your first trip to get accustomed to how different it is from your average restaurant take out.
I found Chennai Delicacy when searching for local Indian Cuisine on the internet. I had driven past it countless times never knowing it was there next to China Chef on the corner of Pearl and York.
I did not know what to ask for or what to expect when I first tried their food. The gentleman gave brilliant suggestions to my friend who had never eaten Indian food before. Now she's always asking for me to bring some with me when I visit. He also instructed me on how to quickly and correctly heat up the meal and serve it at home once he knew this was all new for me.
If you treat Chennai Delicacy at face value for what it is and not grade it based on what you normally expect from your standard food services, you may love it as much as I do. I don't really care that the sign is hard to read. I'm not looking for someone to serve me my food. I like to take my food home and enjoy it with friends and family, adding my own touch to the meal. I just want awesome flavor, and that's what I...
Read moreThis is definitely a hole in the wall location and not a place I would go for fine dining. That being said, their food is amazing! I cannot say how authentic it is since I am not Indian, but I do enjoy the cuisine immensely and this is the place I keep coming back to. Their biryanis and samosas are the best in the city by far. All of the dishes have plenty of flavor and just enough heat to make it enjoyable. Their menu is constantly changing, so just stop by sometime and see what they have available. Although they will heat up the food for you, it is primarily take out (cold). I usually stop by on Saturday or Sunday and pick up a couple of dishes for lunch/dinner during the week. Everything comes in easy to microwave containers and the prices reflect the fact that it is take out. Most dishes are 9-12 dollars and samosas are only a buck a piece. Highly...
Read moreChennai Delicacy is an unassuming small, but great take out Indian restaurant. They also prepare dishes for banquets and parties and cater at some local companies. They have a steady clientele of Indian customers so food must be very authentic. Vish, the owner is very personable and he uses the best and freshest ingredients. Their samosas are not to be missed, though u need to make or buy the tamarind sauce for it. My personal favorite entree is the butter chicken - tender and delicious and my husband loves their chicken biryani - quite spicy, moist and flavorful. Any other Indian restaurant we go to he tries the chicken biryani to see if it’s as good as Chennai, but they are still by far the...
