This was our first stop on our annual Paczki run. We arrived around 8am coming from the Lorain area, so we traveled quite a distance to try this place out. We had heard that they had amazing Paczki. We unfortunately never got to try one😞 The parking lot was full, and all of surrounding parking was either closed off or taken. We ended up parking at a local dollar store. I am sure we could of been towed. As we walked in to Ruby's the air was unenthusiastic. We have been to many places on Paczki Day, and the laughs and sounds of polka music always fills the air. People seemed to be noticibly frustrated. Yes they had music going, but it didn't seem to brighten the mood up at ALL. We stood in line for over 30 minutes which barely moved. When someone did get an order filled they had to squeeze all the way back through everyone in line. To say we felt like sardines would be an understatement! We waited a few more minutes before a young girl from behind the counter announced via microphone that there was going to be an even longer wait. I quote"We have all the filling, but no pastries made. It's going to be at least an hour if not 2 hours before they are done. I'm just being real with you." We instantly thought, WOW, this place is known for Paczkis and they don't even have them made. We have never experienced this sort of thing before. Most places make a vast quantity in the days preceding this day. I thought it was fishy that they had none in the display cases. We decided that waiting an extra 2 hours was not work it; plus we had other places to stop at. We set off to get our Paczkis at other places. We ended up finding several other places in the area far more prepared and accommodating. We made a quick drive by Rudy's when we were heading out, and the line was even longer than it was early that morning. I guess in order to get Paczki from here you must...
Read moreJust wanted to write a review for anyone who's never done a Paczki Day here! I arrived at around 6am and it was about a three hour wait- finishing at around 9am. Parking wasn't too bad as there was a small lot and many side streets with free parking. Even though there was a long line, the only flavors they appeared to be sold out of were a couple of the savory options. The energy was really fun! I got beads, they were passing out drinks, and I even learned how to polka dance. There are also bathrooms inside that you can use and the occasional chair along the line if you need to sit down. Once you got to the counter, there were tons of traditional and unique flavors and the employees worked very quickly. They took cash and credit card. I knew the wait would be long and was prepared for it, but I think there were some people in line that didn't know that they were getting into. Definitely worth it though!! The Polish Village savory paczki was amazing and the Hough Bakery custard was delicious. I heard from another customer in the line that it's typically even more lively, so perhaps something to look forward to in the future! Pre-ordering is also available and it is much quicker to pick up, but the energy of waiting in line can be...
Read moreI was banned from Rudy Strudel today by the owner for not complimenting her cake.
I went to Rudy strudel and the owner was walking out with a cake and standing in the doorway and said compliment my cake. I said I don't care about the cake I just want to come inside. I said could you come out. She said not until you compliment my cake. I said could you please come out. She said not till you compliment my cake. It was raining and I said I'm coming in and walked around her to get out of the rain.
I picked out my pastries and paid for them then the owner came over and told me not to come back to her store anymore.
It's pretty sad that she has to be praised for everything she does, she must have very low self-esteem. She was very rude and I feel sorry for her employees that have to work with her. It's sad these people get so high on themselves and have to put down their customers. It's her loss.
I would recommend going to Colozza's bakery, their personnel are very nice. Colozza's has the best butter cookies, lemon cannolis, and their date nut cupcakes and their cakes are to die for. They're almost like Baker's bakery date nut...
