First and last time there! We were a party of 7 on a Thursday night and there was plenty of available seats but the staff still took some time to acknowledge our presence and set up a table for us. our party consisted of 4 adults and 3 kids. 2 of the adults were sharing a whole roasted chicken meal, one adult and a child (9) were sharing another chicken meal, we then had one child order a fish fillet dinner, one adult ordered a skirt steak and the last child order what was supposed to be a standard Peruvian meal with steak, chorizo, egg, rice, plantain and fries. The waitress repeated the order with the Peruvian names which none of us knew and left. After a little while the meals arrived at our table and to our shock one server walked over to our table with a 2 tier serving anchor filled with small plates. Everyone in my party told the servers that we did not order this item. One of the servers then went to get our waitress who came back and basically insisted that the one child ordered this meal so it is our issue. Her manner of speaking was very rude and obnoxious, completely dismissing my child's consistent objection that she did not order that item. Trying to be gracious my husband said 'if it was a mistake then just leave it'. The server who we later found out was the manager (Vannia) never told us this meal was $120 which by the way the price isn't listed on the menu. You would think that given the price tag of that dish and the fact that a child is ordering it, the server would confirm with one of the adults and possibly even mention the cost of it especially when it's missing from the menu. Who takes a $120 meal order from a 13 year old and doesn't think to point out to a single adult at the table and say, hey just a heads up, this meal is $120. On the top of that they apparently charge 18% service charge regardless to the size of the party which according to the restaurant staff is not tip and they only get a very small portion of it while the majority goes to restaurant/owner. Which first they tried to tell me that all restaurants in NJ apply this charge. such a scam!
I'm absolutely appalled at the fact that Vannia would not point out the price, even if an adult ordered it. We're not taking a $20 or even $40 meal, $120 is a lot of money. And to then not even try to make it right but act in such an ill-manner and blaming a child for making a mistake, is just absurd. When the other servers arrived at the end with our bill, they could clearly see that the meal wasn't even touched. To me this is a complete lack of ethics and professionalism. I would highly recommend staying away from this restaurant.
Because of the manner in which the manager, Vannia, acted and her lack of professionalism we will never return and will be sure to share my experience here with everyone and warn them of this place. It is the way you treat customers that keeps them coming back and how to grow your business. Fortunately our town has lots of fine dinning options that this one can...
Read moreI went to try Peruvian cuisine outside the Peruvian enclave in Paterson, New Jersey. I walked in and it was very intense in color, music so it’s ok. But I would like to go to a restaurant and relax not be pounding with the loud music. I want to try a drink so I chose Machupichu it had 3 colors and pisco. It was ok nothing out of ordinary but pricey. The server (Ecuadorian) was very attentive and helpful explaining the drink and the menu. I chose to eat Cabrito with rice and yucas the portion was good, the taste superb but the Cabrito was a bit hard to chew which it shouldn’t be. The staff was very pleasant around 3 male servers came at different times to ask me it everything was ok. It made me feel very welcome and relax since I stayed for a long while. I know that many restaurants don’t offer filter water but they should start doing. I just went to a dinner where the water placed on the table was filter. When I was ready for dessert it was a let down because the taste of the food was superb ( without thinking about the Cabrito tenderness) a chose Crema Volteada that was not fresh or maybe was not done correctly. My waiter that was taken care of me garnish the dessert very nice. The only think I don’t like that the tip was already calculated in my bill. I always think that tip is optional and it should be determined by the service and hospitality of the staff not imposed. The only thing that I think the management should consider is when there is a birthday celebration at any table the music cannot be so loud that even I was wearing earbuds I couldn’t listen to what i...
Read moreThe food was excellent for the price. $2 for a can of soda? Yes please! I had the Heart Anticucho as an appetizer. It had a faint and innocent kick to it but not spicy enough to stay away from it. The marinade was delicious and combined perfectly with the choclo (white large-kernel corn) and fried potatoes that come with the app. If you've never tried grilled heart, this is your chance. You won't regret it. I had the Beef Lomo Saltado (carne). It had a tad bit too much soy sauce in it but the dish was excellent overall. I wish the plate size, not portion, was bigger though. It was difficult to mix everything together. Also, a bit more rice won't kill the profit margin. The service though, ugh. It was bad enough to make you want to stay away from this place. While nearly empty, it took ten minutes to be be acknowledged to be seated. Then, another ten minutes to get a waitress to come to the table; and, that's only because I asked for one. Ridiculous. The waitress never came to check on us during the meal either. When we looked over, they were busy chatting, and gossiping (I speak and understand Spanish) to pay attention to the customers. When I asked for my check, she gave me a nasty look for disturbing her conversation. Sorry I asked you to do your, I guess? Once the check arrived, we were rushed out of there. Waitress literally gave me the check, said sign, and waited till I did. The atmosphere was, dead. It felt colder in the restaurant than the frigid weather outside. I will return though. It might have just been a bad day. FYI: 18% tip automatically...
