Overall, this is a place I will come back to if they have good deals on good during happy hour. Or maybe to try brunch if I don't have to wait a long time to be seated?
My partner and I had 7:45pm reservations, and we showed up just before 7:40. The place was very busy, and we had to wait. After 8:00, a man who appeared to be an owner or at least a senior manager offered us a seat inside even though we'd reserved for the patio. We took the indoor table.
The patio was well, if inconsistently, lit and had nice landscaping. If I return, I definitely want to sit outdoors. The interior of the restaurant was well-appointed. It looked clean and modern while still retaining an traditional, dark wood aesthetic. The placement of the bar was an odd choice, but with pandemic restrictions forcing everyone make accommodations I imagine I wasn't seeing the layout the way it's intended.
The food was good, although the menu was heavier than I had expected based on the styling of the restaurant logo and decor. It read more pub-inspired than anticipated. That said, the deviled eggs were delicious. The portabello fries were good, but they fell apart a tad too easily and the creamy dip was so bland it tasted like straight mayonnaise. Luckily I had ordered iced tea so I spritzed a bit of lemon and that made a quick fix.
We ordered the beef stroganoff based on the positive reviews from Yelp and pasta with shrimp in an alfredo sauce. The beef and mushroom flavors and textures in the stroganoff were superb; the overall effect of the sauce was too buttery for my tastes. The shrimp pasta was good.
We finished things off by sharing the chocolate lava cake. Unfortunately, it was just warm when it arrived at our table. While the inside still oozed out the center, the actual outer cake felt like it had been sitting on the counter next to a heat lamp.
Service was fantastic. Our water glasses were always full, and we were drinking a lot of water quite quickly.
I'm glad I tried the restaurant, and I will look for a reason to return - but in different circumstances next time to see what else the establishment...
Read moreThe star of today's visit was easily the portobello mushroom fries and Rosebowl cocktail. The fries were absolutely delicious and accompanied by a yummy garlic aioli.
My guest stated that the Rosebowl cocktail was light, refreshing, fragrant, delicious and beautifully presented with a rose petal floating atop.
The second drink my guest tried was the Foothill Fire and it was so spicy they couldn't finish it, even after the bartender added more lemon and simple syrup to the mix.
The fries outshown every other item we tried today including the short rib sliders, pork chop with fingerling potatoes and roasted carrots, and the steak frites with bone marrow butter.
The short rip sliders could have used more meat for $16 and the mustard sauce over the pork chop wasn't my thing. Additionally, the ribeye was tasty as long as it was drowned in the bone marrow butter, however without the butter it was in serious need of salt.
Lastly, nearly 80% of the dishes we received today were garnished with or seasoned with rosemary. There was a rosemary sprig in the cocktail, rosemary leaves over my fingerling potatoes, and even the fries were covered in rosemary. Why so much rosemary? Are there no other seasonings?
I was also confused by the service.. I had no idea who my server was and for a majority of the meal I was being attended to by the bartender who was also providing service to the patrons on bar stools at the bar. I didn't have a server check on me, refill my drinks, clear my plates, or bring me a straw after I ask for one. I am thankful the bartender was so attentive, I don't know if I would have gotten any service at all if it weren't for him.
Not to mention, while I was waiting for service I saw a group of employees eating dinner, joking around and counting their tips from brunch service. All that could have been done out of sight of customers if they were finished with their shifts.
Overall, very...
Read moreCredit Card was stolen by employee and used for over $450 of illegal charges. Went in on Father's Day for dinner, We drove 2 hours to get there; sat at the bar and our server was the bar manager (receipt indicate Enrique). They had Father's Day specials, hubby ordered the Wagyu Ribeye & Dirty Daddy cocktail from specials, both were less than exceptional and that definitely did not taste like Wagyu beef nor worth $80. We also order fried mushrooms, wedge salad & champagne I enjoyed my nonmeat items but the steak was very chewy and fatty and overcooked. The server wasn't that attentive and as we were ready for the check the wait to get his attention took a minute. I had a private flight booked afterwards and forgot to verify if I got my credit card back. I only used my credit card at Foothill Restaurant to pay for dinner so I know that's where it was left. I check my balance today and to my surprise my card was used 3 times and charged over $400 yesterday. I find it disgusting that this business has this kind of employees working there. I called the restaurant before doing this review and the manager lady apologized for this, advised she'd speak to employees who worked bar area on that day. She did not offer to refund my meal nor offer any comp for this horrible experience. Posting to let others know beware and be vigilant when using credit cards at this establishment! Posting pic of dinner receipt for 2. They could improve on a lot especially customer service and...
