This used to be my go-to spot on my lunch break because I absolutely loved the flavors, portion sizes, and rewards, but over the years there has been a bit of a decline
Freebirds is a TX company that was the answer to burrito spots like Chipotle. The concept is pretty much the same, pick the entree type and individually pick out ingredients. The toppings are fairly similar, but at Freebirds it's more of a TexMex vibe in terms of flavors. They had queso first, peppers and onions, and a variety of sauces
Over the years the entrees expanded from burritos, to also bowls, tacos, quesadillas, to nachos, etc. They add the occasional protein change like brisket options. And they've added potatoes and a couple other toppings to the menu
The vibe used to feel more like a hip burrito shop with hip/punk baristas, but now it feels more commercialized. Before they would load up on all the toppings and not charge you extra. Now there are much smaller portions, and virtually everything feels like it costs extra. The last time I came in the nachos were a set price and now the menu says nachos "+ .50 cents"
Even the rewards program changed. It used to be much easier to get a free entree with points. I even made it to their "rock star" level where they would send me Freebirds branded merch like sunglasses, shirts, etc. they still offer points and deals through the app, but it's just different
I know it sounds like I'm complaining about a franchise on one restaurants page, but this is the Freebirds I've gone to the most by far. It used to be regular, at least once a a week, and now I might go there twice a year. The staff is fine, but it's lost the cool fun vibe. There always seems to be a manager working, and you can tell because they're no-non sense
The flavors are good. It's still a tasty option. It's just a little sad they this once trendy little resistance to BIG Burrito has now become just that
Some tips: The nachos have always been the best bang for their buck. Load them up and be sure to get queso on top. Check the app for deals like free queso or a free dessert with purchase. The best thing about them is on your birthday you get a free entree no purchase necessary. Also, be aware that things like steak cost more than chicken... adding potatoes or shredded cheese and queso cost extra. And brisket is wildly over...
Read moreFreebies are supposed to come with the burrito right? Wrong! Very disappointed in this free birds for wasting my time today. I came in on my lunch break to get the same burrito I get every time I go to freebirds. I had just enough to pay for a steak freebird with no extras. I got my four scoops of pico and onions and jalapeños like I always get but noticed the price of my burrito was about $4.50 more than I normally pay for it. When I inquired about the unusual price I was told freebirds policy changed and they have to charge extra if I get more than 2 scoops of the FREEbies. I asked if they could make an exception this time because there was no sign informing me of a policy change nor was I told when I asked for four scoops that I would have to pay extra. They said they could remake the burrito with only two scoops if I wanted to be charged regular price, at that point I didn’t have time to wait for them to remake that burrito and get back to work. So instead of them just informing me I would have to pay more next time i went back to work hungry and watched that burrito go into the trash. Watching them throw that burrito away makes it seem like they weren’t really worried about product cost but rather they were upset with me for getting more freebies than the usual customer. I am extremely frustrated, why are they called freebies if they aren’t free with the burrito. If you wanna call them freebies at least put some tiny text on the sticker on the counter stating they are NOT free if I get more than two scoops, or tell me or something, jeez. Also I called 5 other location and all of them told me I could get as many scoops of all the veggies (not guacamole or cauliflower, which were not on my burrito) as I wanted without being charged extra. So I don’t know what is up with this location, I thought it was a corporation and I could expect the same thing from every location but I guess not. Don’t come to this location if you’re planning on staying a...
Read moreCame in with my kiddo on a Sunday when kids eat free. We were the only ones in there so they were not busy but I was still rushed thru ordering. I had been there before so I knew I wanted a burrito and ordered one after being told the choices for tortilla. Low carb was offered as an option and that’s what I chose. I asked what choices were on a kids meal and ordered that as well. I got to the register and my total seemed high so I asked why that was. I was told I got a monster burrito. I didn’t order that as I thought I got the regular one I usually get and the monster looked no bigger even tho it was $3 more. I was also told that I got a low carb tortilla and when I asked why that mattered, cashier said it’s $2 extra. That was clearly NOT told to me as I wouldn’t have paid $2 more for a dang tortilla the same size as all the others. We began to eat and my kiddo wouldn’t eat the rice or beans as they were both crunchy. Not at all soft like rice and beans from other places. My burrito was decent even tho it was normal size and there was nothing monster about it. Even on a kids eat free day, the quality and quantity didn’t match the...
